She cussed again, fighting with a large, oversized suitcase with a broken handle that she was struggling to get through the office door.
He watched with amusement as she pushed and pulled at the garment bag, unable to get any kind of a grip on the container. She suddenly gave up, spinning herself into the room. She jumped, startled to find him staring at her. They both eyed each other warily.
Sarai suddenly spoke up from the desk she’d been sitting behind. “May I help you?” she asked as she rose from her seat and moved to the front counter.
The young woman shot Zachary one last look before turning her attention toward the woman offering her some assistance. “Yes. I’m looking for Sarah Montri. They said I could find her here.”
“It’s Sarai . . . Suh-rye. Sarai Barrett. I just got married! You must be Kenzie Monroe.”
“I am. It’s nice to meet you, Sarai Barrett. And congratulations on that marriage thing!”
“Thank you and welcome to Revolution. Let’s get you checked in to your cottage.”
“I really appreciate that. I had a miserable flight. Some bald, toothless guy kept trying to grope me.”
“That’s not good,” Sarai said, skewing her face.
“I wanted to tase him. Then I remembered they wouldn’t let me fly with my Taser! I had to elbow drop him in the crotch instead.”
Zachary laughed, shooting Sarai and the young woman a look. Amusement painted his expression. The look on Alexander’s face said the twins had read each other’s minds.
Sarai shook her head, but before she could comment Kenzie shifted her attention.
“Congratulations on your win, Mr. Barrett. It was an impressive fight. And it’s nice to meet you as well,” she said, shooting a look at Alexander.
Zachary nodded, his head bowing ever so slightly. “Thank you.” He extended his hand to shake hers. “And you are?”
“Kenzie Monroe. I’m with Sports Illustrated International.”
“Kenzie is here to do the article on you and Alex,” Sarai interjected.
Zachary’s gaze shifted between the two women, then settled back on the newcomer. “Where are you from, Ms. Monroe?”
“Please, call me Kenzie. And I was born here in Thailand, in Bangkok. But I was raised in New York.”
“So your mother is Thai?”
“No, my father,” she said, her eyes fastened tight to his. “My mother was black.”
Zachary stared at the woman, his expression shifting into something Sarai didn’t recognize. The moment suddenly turned awkward. She looked to Alexander for assistance, but he’d turned his attention to an incoming call on his cell phone.
She cleared her throat. “Zachary, will you please help Ms. Monroe with her luggage?”
He turned, giving his new sister-in-law a look. “Find Sing. Have him take care of it.”
“But you . . .” Sarai started.
He stalled her comment, snapping rudely. He spoke in Thai, the exchange meant to be between the two of them. “Get Sing. Then call that magazine and tell them this isn’t going to work. I have something I need to handle.”
Both women watched as he suddenly turned and stormed from the room. Turning her attention back to Kenzie, Sarai looked embarrassed, her face flushed.
Kenzie was thoroughly entertained. She spoke in Thai. “It looks like things are going to get quite interesting around here!”
