Her stomach flip-flopped. “But your ranch.”
“We don’t have to go back.” He brushed her cheek with such tenderness. “Mario agreed to look after the horses until I can find someone to do it full time.”
“You waited so long to have your life back. That ranch is your heart.”
His beautiful eyes went soft. “I thought so once, but I was wrong. You’re my heart, and I’ve waited even longer to find you. I can live with visiting the ranch. But I could never live without you.”
Time stood still, just long enough for everything to become clear to her. Leaving Copas, and the ranch, seemed like a loss for her, too. Going back, opening the office, helping people who would really need her, and most importantly, settling in with Andres sent her spirit racing. She cupped his jaw and pulled his face down to hers. “Aren’t you lucky you won’t have to live without either one,” she murmured against his lips, just before she kissed him.
Epilogue
One year later…
Moni smiled. The heat of Andres’s kiss lingered on her lips, stirring dirty thoughts. Rayo took careful steps away from the front porch. Although her husband complained about the horse’s superior attitude, they’d remained inseparable since she’d come to live at the ranch. Rayo understood Andres’s moods, including the pride with which he rode today. In his arms, a tiny fist pushed away the blue blanket, trying to see the ranch as every Calderon should—from horseback.
Their son was the first new Calderon of his generation at Rancho del Sol. He had acres of land to learn about, generations’ worth of history, and a benevolent spirit who kept watch over the stables.
Rancho del Sol was up and running thanks to some of the money hidden away in nearby caves. Once the repairs were done, they’d opened shop. With stables full and well-tended, the stock was in demand for races and stud fees. Most importantly, Andres had his legacy back, along with his father’s respect, and they were continuing their life together—as a family.
