“That vagrant Clarence, why anyone would want to kill that fool is anyone’s guess.”

  “How did he die?”

“Took one to the chest.” Another coincidence, I don’t think so. We don’t have murders on our little inlet and like the Cap said, who would want to off him?

“Have the team seal the place off until I get there, no one touches anything.” I hung up and got off the bed.

“I don’t know how long this is going to take baby, eat without me okay, and if I’m gonna be really late I’ll call you. You want me to call your mom or one of the boys to come stay with you?”

“No Donovan I’m fine. Who is it?” I took her head in my hands and studied her face. “I hate like fuck for this shit to touch you. It was Clarence.”

“What, but why? Do you think this has something to do with what we’re working on?”

“I don’t know but I think so, my gut talking again. Do me a favor, just concentrate on our wedding for the rest of the night. I’ll see you.” A long hard kiss and I was gone.

I didn’t have a good feeling about this. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but two homicides this close together in a town that hasn’t had one in over thirty years didn’t seem that normal to me, unless there was a connection.

What Clarence could have to do with top-secret missions and espionage was a mystery though. Clarence had been the town’s vagrant for years.

He usually stayed to himself and had only ever came under the radar for a drunk and disorderly. It didn’t make sense.

“Hey Lieu, what do you make of this?” Scott met me at my jeep. I could see the crime scene tape cordoning off the area around Clarence’s little stone cottage and my men standing around.

“I wouldn’t know that yet Scott, I just got here. No one went in as yet did they?”

“Nope, the Captain gave strict orders that no one was supposed to go in before you came.”

“Good.” I geared up to go in. I didn’t tell my men my suspicions that the two cases were connected, though I’m sure if they knew their shit they were already thinking along those lines.

“Okay boys and girls, I want this place gone over with a fine tooth comb. We’re looking for any kind of papers or anything that might look out of place. All of you knew the deceased so I’m pretty sure you’d know if something didn’t fit with the man you knew.”

I went to the body and the first thing I noticed was the jacket. I’d seen that jacket under a street light the night before. What the hell was Clarence doing watching us?

I pulled my phone and called the house. “Baby I want you to make sure the alarm is set, do it while I’m on the phone.”

  “What’s going on?”

“I don’t know, could be something, could be nothing, just do as I say and make sure all the doors and windows are locked.”

I stayed on the line while she carried out my orders before ringing off again.

I went over the body myself and was sure that he had been dead for some time before the call came in.

First order of business was questioning the friend who had found him and made the call, after I went through the mountain of junk the man had spread out all over the little house.

I passed the friend off to Scott while I had three of my team members start the search.

I wasn’t sure what I hoped to find, but if he had anything to do with the other homicide or the man who’d been murdered, there might be something here I could use.

  ***

It was almost three in the morning by the time I got back to the station house to write up my report.

I’d found a few things that had me excited, I just needed to get some sleep and come at it with fresh eyes in the morning.

She was asleep when I finally dragged in, but when I climbed into bed, although I tried to be as quiet as possible she still awakened.

She snuggled into me and threw her leg over mine. “Hmm, did you get a chance eat something?”

“No, there was no time, I’ll get something in the morning.” I’d forgotten all about food as the night progressed, but now that she mentioned it…

“No, I left your dinner in the warmer.”

“You did? Hey, you just might be useful for something after all.” I was tired as shit, but if she had gone to the trouble I’d eat every bite.

She pulled me up from the bed and we headed for the kitchen where she sat me at the table and fussed over me like a mother hen, while she bustled around the room.

“Wow baby, that smells amazing.” The cobwebs cleared from my eyes and my stomach growled with renewed hunger.

She’d made pot roast, my favorite, with mash potatoes and mushroom gravy.

“I think-I’ll marry you after all.” I grinned at her and held her hand while I ate. She peppered me with questions about tonight and I answered her the best I could without giving away too much. I still didn’t want her involved in this mess.

Paperwork was one thing, doing research and things like that. But dead bodies are where I draw the line. She’d done it all before yes, but that was before she was mine to protect.

“So you think it’s connected to the other thing?” I guess there was no hiding that fact from her, especially with her skills. Which was another source of worry for me.

Would the killer draw the same conclusion? Would he realize that she could piece it together? If this person knew anything about our little town, then they’d know that one murder was an anomaly, let alone two.

She was safe here though, but maybe I’ll take her to her parents or mine and leave her there while I was at work.

“What do you have planned for later today?” I changed the subject midstream, but didn’t let on to the unsettling thoughts inside me.

“I’m meeting the mothers for lunch.” Good.

“Sounds like fun.” That takes care of tomorrow, but what about the rest of the time until I solved this mess?

She cleaned up when I was done and we went back to bed. I was fully awake now and had more than sleep in my mind.

I was in the mood to make slow passionate love to her this time. There were no words spoken between us as I slipped the straps of the sexy lace top off her shoulders with my fingertips.

I kissed her softly, hoping she felt what I wanted her to; all the love I had inside for her.

We touched and murmured, our hands moving slowly over each other’s flesh, shedding clothes as we went.

With one knees pressed into the mattress, I took her hand and drew her down before coming down over her.

“I can’t remember what I use to do before you.” I placed soft gentle kisses on her cheeks and lips before making my way down to her nipples, which were hard and waiting for my attention.

I took my time loving her, making her cry out and sigh with each nibble of her flesh, each lick of my tongue.

By the time I had my face buried between her thighs, we were both at fever pitch. My cock was harder than it’s ever been and I sought to make her wetter than ever before.

I ate her until her folds became swollen around my tongue and her clit rubbed against my nose.

Her ass trembled in my hands when I lifted her to my mouth and she screamed as I sucked her love button between my lips.

While her body shook with orgasm, I moved up between her spread legs, and with my cock held firmly in my hand, I slid into her.

“So much heat.” I buried my face in her neck as I timed my strokes into her. I knew that it wouldn’t take much to make me forget myself, and start pounding into her; but I wanted to give her this.

We moved together like a dance. I don’t think as far as I’ve been inside her that I’d ever been this deep. I could feel everything that was in her wrapped around my cock.

Her petal softness grabbed at me and won’t let go, until I bit into her neck marking her the way I always have to whenever I’m inside her.

Only then did she release me to slide in and out of her on a slow cadence. I lifted my head and looked down into her passion
clouded eyes.

“I love you that you belong to me, that this is all mine.” I placed a hand between us on her pussy mound as I stroked into her.

She made a sound in her throat before pulling my mouth down for a kiss. The kiss started out nice and slow to match the mating.

It wasn’t long before her hips started to move faster, and her nails dug into the flesh of my ass as she tried to pull me deeper, harder into her.

I pulled her arms from around me and placed them next to her head on the bed. “Behave, I’m going to fuck you slow if it kills me.”

She knew how to play me though, and pretty soon I was ready to fuck her into the springs beneath the bed. She used her pussy muscles to get me to do her bidding, but I gritted my teeth and held on.

“Fine.” I knew just how to give us both what we wanted. Rearing back on my heels, I lifted her legs up and open; this way I could pile drive into her pussy.

Deep thrusts satisfied her hunger and I was still able to go slow, prolonging the pleasure for both of us.

She wailed and flounced around beneath me as my dick kept her pinned to the bed. Her pussy juice had soaked the sheets and my groin, but still I wanted more.

Pulling out of her, I let her legs drop over my shoulders and down my back as I buried my tongue in her sweet pussy again.

It was her taste, it was addictive, I could never get enough. “Please Donovan? “ She pulled on my hair until I gave her what she wanted.

She opened her arms and accepted me back into her body where I belonged. “I want this to be the moment when I breed you.”

She came at my words, her body’s tightening dragging me over the edge with her.

  Chapter 26

  DONOVAN

I woke up the next morning with a nagging feeling in my gut. It’s the type of feeling that has helped me in my job before, but I don’t recall having it outside of work.

I looked down at her as she slept in my arms. I eased away from her wanting to let her have a little more sleep, since I’d kept her up most of the night, or early morning I should say.

After our slow lovemaking, she’d been hungry still, so I’d ended up turning her onto her hands and knees and fucking her hard.

And since I’d already got the first one out of the way, that one had lasted a lot longer. We’d fallen asleep with her tiny frame buried under my hulking mass, but we were both too tired to move, until sometime later, when I’d roll off of her and pulled her into my arms.

Now I was battling this feeling of impending doom. I left her in the bed and walked through the house making sure everything was secure.

Outside in the garage, I started to put a tracker on her car then I thought better of it. Instead I went back inside and found that mausoleum she calls a purse.

Since she’d been home I’ve never seen her without it when she left the house. I slipped the little device inside, squelching any doubts about invading her privacy.

She didn’t have any from me, neither did I from her, that’s the way our relationship was built.

I took a nice long shower and went downstairs for my first cup of coffee and to program the machine to make her frou-frou drink.

With both cups in hand I went back upstairs and woke her up. “Wake up baby I have to leave soon.” I nuzzled her awake until she stretched and yawned.

“Ooh, gimme.” Her eyes weren’t even fully opened when she reached for her drink.

“I think you want that more than my kisses.” I teased as she sat up and took her first hit.

“Never.” She put the cup down, pulled me down for a kiss and then hopped off the bed, headed for the bathroom.

  “Where’re you going?”

“I have to brush my teeth.” She scratched the back of her thigh as she walked out of sight and I don’t know why, but I found that shit sexy as hell.

I was dressed and ready to go by the time she came out of the bathroom, and with a soft kiss and a little squeeze of her ass, I was gone.

My mind was already on the job by the time I cleared the driveway and that feeling I’d awakened with was long forgotten.

  ***

I felt like a domestic queen as I cleaned his house-correction-our house. I love the way he believes that he’d done all this with me in mind, because it truly was a magnificent home.

I especially liked the way he’d left most of the decorating for me to take care of, even though he’d built the house a few years ago.

I felt lighter here, like I was cocooned in a sea of warmth that nothing could penetrate.

Just a few shot months ago I, was in hell, or at the lowest I’d ever been in my life. I had no way of knowing or even imagining that this could ever be.

Now all my dreams were coming true, things that I’d denied myself or told myself could never be, were not right here in the palm of my hand.

It had been a while since I sang while I dusted, and it made me smile. I was happy, really and truly gut deep happy.

Mom called in the middle of my cleaning fit. I’d just gone trough the fridge and was making a list of all the groceries we needed. I like eating out, but I prefer staying in with my man. I like the way he enjoys my food. And if my pot roast got me what it did last night or this morning rather, then I can’t wait to see what my veal cutlet Parm can do.

  “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing mom, just remembered something.” It’s a good thing she couldn’t see me because my face was on fire.

We talked for a bit before I decided to run out to the store before my lunch date. It shouldn’t take too long as long as I had my list, just a quick in and out.

I could see why Donovan was so worried about me being out here alone. The place was beautiful, there had to be at least five acres of land surrounding the house, but the nearest neighbor was a good ten minutes away.

I was about to throw my bag on the seat and climb in when someone grabbed me from behind.

I didn’t feel fear at first, with my profession you learn not to jump at shadows, but it was a bit of a surprise.

I did feel fear when I looked over my shoulder and saw who was there. “What are you doing here?” I looked around for an escape even though I knew there was none.

I would have to use my head here. I’ve been on the wrong end of his evil before so I know what he’s capable of.

  “What do you want Dorian?”

  “Let’s go.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you.” I tried shaking him off but he just pulled me into him harder.

“Let’s not make this any harder than it has to be.” I felt the cold steel in my side and my body went cold.

“Are you insane, do you know what Donovan will do to you for this?”

“Your new playmate won’t be able to do much once I’ve put a bullet in his head.” His sneer was uglier than I remembered.

Was this really the man that I’d almost married? This was so far removed from anything I would ever have associated myself with farther more wed.

He pulled me along to the trees that bordered the driveway and I felt my knees buckle. Is this where I’m going to die?

“You don’t have to do this.”

“Shut up and don’t tell me what I have to do. Did you think I’d let you make a fool of me?”

“What are you talking about, you were the one who cheated remember?” I probably shouldn’t infuriate him any more than he already was, but I was damned if I was going to take the blame for his screw-ups.

“A stupid mistake, and now you’ve told your hick brothers and that idiot Chase that I tried to rape you, you know that’s not how it was. I was just trying to get you to see how it could be if you just gave me a second chance.”

Was he insane? “What are you planning to do with me?” We had finally made it to his car that he’d hidden in the trees and brush on the other side.

“No more talking until we get away from here.” he was sweating and twitching and I knew there was more going on here than he was letting
on. How could I have forgotten about the case?

I had to think, there must be a way out of this. if I just kept calm and used my head, I’ll find a way. This was my town after all and no matter that I’d shared most of it with him in stories from my childhood, he will never know it as well as I do.

  DONOVAN

It was a pain in the ass sifting through the mountain of crap that we’d dragged out of Clarence’s place. The M.E. put his time of death at sometime around late last night, which meant whoever did it had killed him not long after I’d seen him under that light.

I was doubly sure it had been him, when I found all the information he had on Shania. It could’ve been a local’s pride in one of their own, but somehow I didn’t think so.

Especially since the information had more to do with her movements since her return than with anything she’d done on assignment.

But who had he been working with? This was not a man who knew anything about government secrets and off shore banking.

He could easily be the doer in the Riley case, but why? That’s what I was going to find out.

I was bent over my desk for hours when my phone rang and I picked it up absentmindedly.

  “Chase.”

“Son, where’s my new daughter in law? She’s half an hour late and that’s not like Shania.”

My mind cleared of everything in an instant. “What do you mean?” I pulled my cell to call her.

“I’ve been calling her all afternoon, Betty said she spoke to her a little earlier but no one has seen or heard from her since.”

“I’ve got to go mom, I’ll call you back.” I didn’t want to worry her unnecessarily so I didn’t say any more than that.

She wasn’t answering her phone and my anxiety level went up a notch. I ran down two flights of stairs to the little make shift office the feds were using.

  “Where is he?”

Everett was there but Carter wasn’t, which only made the blood run colder in my veins.

“Something I can do for you lieutenant?”

“Yes, you can tell me where your partner went.” Keep it cool Donovan.

“He had to step out why?”
