Light in the Shadows Page 8

by Hillman, Eva;

  Before long she had scraped her skin and it started bleeding and with the blood, the tape released. She kept praying that Leon would not come back before she was finished. Eventually the tape tore and with the hand loose, she was able to take the tape off the other hand then she could take it off of her feet.

  Then the men told about hunting Beth and running around looking for her, looking in the stores and because they couldn’t find her they went home, hoping she had left a message of some kind. When they got home, there was the light with the two men that were fighting. Both bloodied, as they had tried to kill each other. But the light put his concentrated light in their faces and they were pretty much blinded. They had to stop as they couldn’t see and they were scared of whatever the light was about.

  That was the time Chris and Stewart walked in. They asked those questions, they refused to answer but when the light put special light on the heart they got the message. Knowing the light could kill them, they started talking. They completely blamed each other. But with them talking, Chris and Stewart were able to understand what had happened to Christopher and Maud.

  Many things to remember; many to forget. Then Chris and Stewart told Beth about the formula. She was angry at first, but then when they explained why they didn’t tell her, she said she was okay with it. And when Leon kidnapped her, she didn’t know anything about the formula and it was good that she didn’t. It would have made her even more scared if she did know. It was all over with.

  They got up and decided to finish the run. They were such good friends that it was just a pleasure to be together. They ran for a while, but decided to go to Beth’s home and straighten up any mess that was there and get something to eat and then decided what to do with stamps.

  They were having a tough time believing it was all over. Both Chris and Stewart were okay about not going back to work yet. They still needed some time off as they had been working with Beth. Stewart interjected that he thought it would be a good time for Beth and him to get married.

  Both Chris and Beth stared at Stewart and when Beth could speak again she told them that she did want to marry Stewart. When she was tied in the chair at Leon’s home, all she could think of was not seeing Stewart again. She finally realized that is the only thing that kept her going was Stewart. Knowing she wanted him to be with her, she just kept trying.

  Stewart asked her to take a walk with him. They left and went to the park and sat down on one of the benches and Stewart explained to Beth that it was her and always her that kept him going. He loved her very much and put his arms around her and kissed her with an amazing kiss.

  Beth was shocked about the kiss and asked Stewart if he could do that again. Stewart laughed and gave her another kiss and then the light was there with them. The light danced and swirled about them and was comforting like the soothing glow of a fireplace. With the light on their side they decided to use the time Stewart had off and get married. They were excited about it; they went back to Beth’s home to tell Chris. It became the best part of all the troubles they had been through and without a doubt, their mom and dad would be pleased along with the light.
