She hesitated for a moment, then feeling a warm soft puff against her ear, swallowing back the heat in her throat, she slowly nodded her head.

Planning to bring the vision of the nursery to life, April spent the remainder of the afternoon in the servants quarters' sketching out her designs for her future architect. When she finally wandered back into the kitchen to make herself some dinner, though she found herself missing Jonathan's presence, she felt comfortable in the house by herself.
"I have you, don't I fella?" she said, sitting on the floor with Terrence and brushing the dirt from his coat. "Not to mention Foster in the salon, Margaret in my studio, and Troy—well, he's sort of everywhere. Saturday I'm going to tell Jonathan about the baby. It didn't feel right before, but it does now."
Terrence licked her face as if understanding every word she'd said, and she chose to believe he did. Taking her dinner and glass of wine into the small lounge that housed the television, she settled on the couch and decided to watch a marathon of old comedies. It felt good to giggle, but as a yawn swept her up, she slowly rose to her feet.
"Time for bed, Terrence."
The dog lifted his head, stood up, shook, then looked at her expectantly. Picking up her dish, she returned to the kitchen and let him out the back door. Waiting for his return, she washed her plate, then watched him wander around the lawn. It was a tranquil scene, and moments later, as he trotted back into the house, she let out a soft, tired sigh.
It had been a long week in the guest room. Walking up the stairs, Terrence moving ahead of her, she was looking forward to being back in her own bed, the bed she'd shared with Troy. Taking a quick shower to wash off the day, she slipped between the sheets, but Terrence wasn't settling into his usual spot on the floor.
"What is it fella?"
He stared up at her for a moment, lifted his nose to the air, then suddenly jumped on the bed and settled beside her. An odd sensation rippled through her being. Waiting until he laid down, she turned off the light, then rested her hand against her growing baby. It was quiet and still. Finally rolling on her side, she stared at the sweet, fluffy dog. He was bathed in the moon's soft glow, his eyes were closed, and he was falling asleep.
"Troy, my dearest Troy, I can feel you're finally resting in peace. I know you'll never stop loving me from the grave, and I also know you just freed me to love again in life."
