He cleared his throat and played with his tie again. “I have a meeting.” Leave it to Sean to drop some heavy truth on me and admit feelings (sort of), then jet off.
“Are you ready for Sicily?” I asked during his retreat to my door.
“Like, am I packed? Or prepared to join some secret organization and get a tattoo?” He looked back my way and smiled, then left before I managed out a response.
I went back to my desk and plopped down in my leather chair, a touch lightheaded and wondering if my near-knee-buckling experience hadn’t been about Emilia and Luca but because I was getting sick.
My stomach rumbled.
Chills chased over my skin and the next thing I knew . . . I was throwing up into the rubbish bin.
What the hell?
I cleaned up once I was able to, but when I started back for my office, I paused in the doorway, planting my palms to the interior frame at the realization that shite, I was late.

“That’s a lot.” I stared at the bed, my eyes wide as my husband dumped yet another bag of pregnancy tests. “I got three of each kind. You know, to make sure.” He was panting as if he’d literally run to the store and back instead of having his driver take him. I’d insisted on his driver, terrified he’d wrap his car around a tree by driving way too fast, his thoughts disoriented.
“I don’t think I can pee enough for more than two.” A smile eased onto my lips.
He took me into his arms, his disarming smile stealing my words. He whispered all the beautiful words I loved in Italian to me, then in French, before scooping me into his arms and carrying me into our en suite.
“You’re not actually going to watch me pee on a stick, are you?” I crossed my arms after he’d set me down and returned with two boxes, which was actually four tests. The man had lost his mind.
I was on the pill, so I didn’t know if this was even possible, and even though we’d agreed to wait until after The Alliance had been taken down to try for kids, he looked as excited and eager as me.
“I thought your tits were bigger.” He shoved the tank top strap down to expose my right breast. I playfully slapped his hand away when he held my boob as if weighing it. “It’s bigger.” He pulled the other strap down. “And these nipples.”
“What about them?” I dropped my eyes to my breasts in alarm, but before I knew it, he lifted me up on the counter and wrapped my legs around his hips.
“They’re perfect.” His husky baritone, along with both palms back on my breasts, had my sex growing wet. His mouth took mine in a hot and passionate kiss as I arched my back, pushing my hips outward with intense need.
“Make love now, or make love after?” I asked while grinding against him, desperate to have my incredibly sexy husband fill me.
“Both?” He carried me back into the bedroom and gently set me alongside all the strewn pregnancy test boxes.
He kissed my body after ridding me of my clothes, paying extra attention to my breasts. They were more sensitive than normal. Everything was more sensitive. Did that mean it was true? I was having his baby?
I soaked in his sweet words while we made love, while he stimulated every part of me with his tongue. When I was naked in his arms, it was as if I were draped in elegance, bathed in sunshine with this man inside of me.
“My wife,” he said while coming after I orgasmed. “And . . . a baby?” He shifted off me and helped me to my feet. “No matter what, I love you.”
We went to the en suite, and he actually did watch me pee on the stick. The man was persistent. Nervous. Excited.
I bit down on my thumb as he hooked an arm around me, and we stared at the stick like two crazy people.
“Two lines,” I gasped as they both appeared rather quickly. “We’ll make this work?”
He sank to his knees and tugged my body to face him, then planted a tender kiss on my belly button. “We’ll more than make this work,” he said, his voice almost hoarse as he looked up at me. “Thank you for making me the happiest man in the world, my love.”
