“Not too long, I hope,” Devron said, eyes glued to her fingers and the slow, tempting circles they drew over her hip. His mouth went dry, his head buzzing with the urgent need to have her. She couldn’t possibly understand how strong this pull was for him too. It was something he’d never heard anyone talking about, this mutual tug to their Omega. Maybe it was Melody, too strong-willed to be an Omega. Or maybe it was something new, something others could find too if they took the time to reconsider what the bond should look like.
“Long enough,” she said, nearly pouting as he reached the edge of the bed.
“I suppose I’ll have to make it up to you somehow,” he said, his voice a dark promise.
“Yeah?” she asked, eyebrows lifting. “How do you plan to do that?”
“An orgasm or three should be a good start, I think. Don’t you?” He moved onto the bed with her, sealing his lips to hers as he did, their lips molding to one another, tongues teasing, tasting, twisting around one another. The kiss was deep and sensual, Melody’s moans rising up to his ears and shooting straight to his cock, the taste of her familiar and addicting, her body warm and soft beneath him as his hand slid between them to stroke her thigh.
Devron nearly forgot all other goals with that kiss. It was too good to think about anything else. His tongue pressed deep into her mouth, then hers pushed back, and it was the frenzy, the urgency of it, the mutual desire that had his balls tightening before he ever really touched her.
Under that silky robe of hers, his hand disappeared, fingers teasing the short, dense curls guarding her slit. One finger parted her, and Melody gasped as he tapped her clit.
“Fuck,” she sighed, sagging against him as he circled that button once, twice, slow and steady, around and around until her leg was quaking and twitching with every pass. She was slick, wetter than he’d ever seen her, and for the first time, she seemed fully willing to give herself to him. Her eyes closed, her head dropped back, her jaw slack on a silent moan as he circled her clit again and again.
“Devron,” she whispered, grinding her hips slowly to meet each pass of his finger.
“Are you going to come for me, little Omega of mine?” he whispered, his lips hovering just above hers. He pressed harder, circling again, her ragged, gasping breaths music to his ears. She whimpered, and he pressed again.
“Oh, God,” she squeaked, a sound he’d never heard from her that made his cock jump. “Yes,” she whispered, hips grinding against him with wild abandon.
“Then do it,” he said, fingers moving harder, faster. “Come,” he ordered.
All at once, she exploded under him. Devron was quick to cover her mouth with a kiss, making sure to drag the orgasm out, to keep her trembling, his fingers never stopping. She was gorgeous, flushed with the afterglow of her orgasm, her hair tousled and tangled, chest heaving, the robe beginning to separate over her magnificent breasts, giving him the teasing glimpse of one hard nipple.
He couldn’t resist that nipple, a tawny plum point begging for his lips to wrap around it.
“Holy fuck,” Melody gasped, then groaned, melting back as Devron’s lips latched around her nipple and one of his long fingers slipped inside her. She didn’t seem to know which body part to arch toward him, which resulted in her body doing an undulation that drove Devron fucking crazy.
He’d wanted to make her come another time yet before fucking her, but there was no way he could deny himself the pleasure of sinking into her velvety warmth right that instant. He replaced his finger with his cock before Melody even had a chance to be disappointed. She was so wet, so ready for him that there was no resistance as he slid in, stretching her, filling her, pressing in deep enough that they both groaned desperately.
It was too damn good to be real.
She was too good to be real.
But she was.
She was real, and she was his.
There was a spot deep inside her, when he was buried to the hilt and ground his hips in deeper, if he rolled them a certain way, she squeaked every time, legs trembling to hold onto him.
Combining that with a finger on her clit worked magic. Melody gasped and tightened around him, the vise-like grip of her sex better than any he’d ever had. The orgasm started at his toes, working its way up with fizzy ecstasy, hot and molten, impossible to stop.
Melody’s thighs tightened around him. Her back arched, the robe falling away from her breasts completely as a ragged, desperate cry ripped from her throat.
“Yes,” she wailed, her walls rippling around his cock.
It was the most intense orgasm of his life.
Not to sound arrogant, but he was pretty sure that statement was true for them both. For a long time afterward, Melody was still shaking in his arms, shivering aftershocks trembling through her. He stroked her smooth skin, delighting in the way it pebbled up at his touch. The first time it had happened, she shivered, then giggled and assured him it wasn’t a bad feeling when he’d asked.
By her reaction, he’d say it was anything but bad.
“That was amazing,” he said finally, still holding her close. “Are you . . . happy?” He wasn’t sure how to navigate these waters with Melody.
She snuggled in closer with a sigh that sounded rather content.
“Yeah,” she said. “I know it’s probably been hard for you to figure out what I want. The Alpha-Omega thing . . . that’s not me, and I’m sure you know it. I need to be my own person. I can’t be at the beck and call of someone who can order me to do whatever they want.”
Devron frowned, his hands tightening on her. “That is not something I’d do to you, but I swear to you that I will do everything I can to avoid giving you orders . . . outside the bedroom,” he said.
Melody’s breath hitched, eyes flicking to him. He didn’t miss the way her flesh heated, the way her eyes warmed.
“Everywhere else, we are equals, but here?” he asked, his hand slipping over her hip, down the front of her thigh, making her hold her breath in anticipation of his touch between her legs. Instead, he went back to her hip, pulling her tighter against him. “Here, I want to be your Alpha.”
Melody licked her lips, swallowing thickly before she slowly began to nod.
“I think I could be okay with that,” she said, her mouth quirking up on one side.
She could play coy all she liked. Devron hadn’t missed his Omega’s enjoyment in being submissive in the bedroom. She might not realize it quite yet, but he’d already seen plenty of potential, and there was so much more to explore. Together.
“Nothing would make me happier,” he said, kissing the top of her head. It was the truth, too. No matter what the future might hold for them, as long as he had her at his side, Devron knew he’d be okay.
40
Six Months Later . . .
“Exiting hyperspace in thirty seconds,” Melody said from her place at the controls.
“Exit clear,” said Mabav.
“Ready to jump,” said Rayhan.
“You still haven’t told me where we’re going,” Melody said, sending a suspicious look to Devron.
He shrugged innocently. “You’ll see soon enough.”
It was that mischievous glint in his eyes that made her worry so much.
In their time together, Melody had learned a lot of things about Devron. She’d learned the difference between when he was irritated or annoyed and when he was really angry. She’d learned how far she could push him before he crossed that line. She’d learned about the places on his body that he loved to be touched—and the ones on hers, too—and she’d learned that he was a fair, kind man who always wanted to do the best he could for the people he cared about.
She’d also learned that he got these ideas sometimes that rarely—okay, never—panned out well. Ideas like the one that had led him to kidnap an Omega from a renowned slaver. Those kinds of crazy, impossible ideas.
For the most part, Melody was able to laugh at his antics, but they were still paying off the repairs from the last tim
e he had a great idea—a jump to uncharted territory, what could go wrong? A lot is the answer. So, so much. Space piracy had proved lucrative enough to keep the ship going and pay everyone aboard a modest salary, but it wasn’t going to make any of them rich anytime soon, and Devron needed to keep that in mind if he wanted to keep this operation running.
“Exiting hyperspace in three . . . two . . . one,” Melody counted down, and the emptiness of space rushed at them all at once, light stretching into thin strands of spaghetti, fracturing into every color of the rainbow before the familiar jerk spat them out on the other side. The systems were all inoperable for a brief moment, but it was only a second before the first of the systems started to flicker on.
“Everyone still in one piece?” she asked, checking the readings on her screen.
She’d learned a lot about this ship in the past six months. When she and Devron weren’t . . . busy, Melody devoted her time to studying the ship’s systems in case the day ever came that she needed to assume control. No one had any plans of leaving their little family, but it didn’t hurt to be prepared.
“Yep,” said Naela.
“All good here,” answered Lezin.
“Affirmative,” said Gaddis.
Melody let out the breath she’d been metaphorically holding since they started the jump. Jumps were always dangerous, and she’d read more than her fair share of horror stories even before their ship was nearly ripped to shreds by a gravity well, but getting around didn’t make sense any other way. It literally wasn’t possible in the span of a lifetime.
“So, where are . . . we . . . ?” Melody trailed off, her eyes out the window answering her own question.
In all their months of traveling, Melody had seen a lot of planets, a lot of different ways of living that she never would’ve thought possible, but there was no mistaking this planet, no forgetting the cloudy blue marble that was her home.
A lump tightened in her throat, and Melody blinked back tears. She didn’t expect to be so sentimental to see home again.
It didn’t even really feel like home anymore.
Maybe that was why she was getting choked up, realizing that the attachment she should have to the place wasn’t there.
Then a new worry raced through her.
What were they doing here?
Devron didn’t tell her they were coming. Why?
Was he going to leave her on Earth whether she liked it or not?
“I thought you’d be happy to see it again,” Devron said with a frown, reaching out to dab at the tears trailing down her cheeks.
Melody jerked away.
“What are we doing here? What’s going on?”
Devron frowned.
“What do you think is happening?”
She didn’t want to say it out loud. She thought once she did that, it might make it real. At least for the moment, it seemed like silly paranoia. This was Devron she was thinking about. Sweet, thoughtful, amazing Devron. He wouldn’t discard her like that, would he?
“I . . . I don’t know,” she said, hugging herself tightly, voice trembling.
Devron’s frown deepened and he stepped closer, searching her tearful eyes.
“Melody, what . . . oh, blazing stars, you think I’ve brought you back to stay?”
Her head snapped up.
“You’re not?”
He chuckled, which would’ve pissed her off a lot more if it wasn’t so damn confusing.
“No, you ridiculous human. I’m not bringing you back to your planet to abandon you.”
“Then . . . why?” she asked, sniffling, wiping at tears, feeling foolish for jumping to the conclusion so easily, so quickly. No one else on the bridge was paying them any attention. If they noticed her display, they were being kind enough to pretend they hadn’t.
Devron still frowned as he shrugged. “Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea. You sounded so wistful, though. I thought maybe . . .”
“What? What are you talking about?” she asked, eyes constantly drifting back to the serene little ball hanging freely. It was hard to believe that every human she’d ever known, everyone she’d stolen from, all the places that she’d slept on the streets, cold, hungry, and lonely—all of it was down on that little blue ball.
She’d never felt so small and so big at the same time.
“Your friend. You talk about her so much that I thought you might like to see her again.”
Melody frowned, taking way too long to realize whom he was talking about. Once she did, she felt like jumping out of her skin.
“Jodie?” she asked. “You brought me back home to see Jodie?” The grin that started once she connected the dots only grew and grew.
“Not just see. If she has nothing stopping her, she’s welcome to join us.”
“Holy shit,” Melody gushed, so excited she didn’t know how to contain it. “How do we do this? You can’t exactly go down on Earth looking like . . . I’m wanted by the cops. I probably shouldn’t set foot on the planet either, though our law enforcement isn’t nearly as sophisticated as Cania’s. I don’t want to—”
“Melody,” Devron said for the third time, finally getting through to her. She lifted her eyebrows in question and he just laughed, shaking his head.
“We have the technology to beam her up. Remember when you were brought aboard?”
“Oh . . . right,” she muttered, feeling foolish. She’d just gotten caught up in the moment and forgot that she was on an alien ship that basically had magic as far as her primitive Earth brain was concerned.
“Well, then, beam her up, Scottie.”
The joke was lost on him, but Devron and Mabav worked together to coordinate the beam. Melody had to give them some parameters to narrow it down and then a final visual confirmation.
Jodie was at her place, an apartment with walls that were basically cardboard, where the roaches had more stake to the territory than Jodie herself. The TV was on in the background even though she didn’t look like she was paying any attention to it. What Melody could see of her apartment from the view on the screen was a disaster. It looked like Jodie hadn’t cleaned in a while, like she’d been letting chores and responsibilities get away from her.
“Yep, that’s her,” Melody said, heart hurting for her only friend on Earth.
Devron pressed a button, and then suddenly, Jodie was lying on the floor of the bridge instead of her couch.
“What the—” she scrambled to her feet in a panic, tripping on the oversized flannel pajama pants she wore.
“Jo, Jo, it’s okay,” Melody said, stepping forward with her hands out. “It’s me. It’s Mel.”
Jodie gaped at her, eyes wide, jaw slack.
“Mel? Is it really you?” She reached out, fingers outstretched, and brushed them against Melody’s cheek before she snatched them away like she’d been shocked. “Holy shit! It is you. I thought . . . well, we all figured . . . after you disappeared . . .” Her expression darkened, and suddenly, Melody thought she might understand why Jodie’s apartment was such a disaster. If anyone was going to blame themselves for Melody’s untimely demise, it would’ve been Jodie.
“Surprise. I’m not dead,” she said with a big grin, hoping to reassure her old friend.
“No shit,” said Jodie with a low whistle, looking around, trying to take everything in. “What the hell is this?”
“A spaceship,” Melody answered. No point beating around the bush. “I’m running with a new crew these days, doing a different kind of job. But the pay’s good, room and board’s included, and we get to steal from rich fucks.”
“Sounds like a dream,” Jodie said, now starting to wander around the bridge, still with that awed expression, but now it was less shocked and more curious.
“You’re welcome to join us,” Melody said.
“What? You’re serious?” Jodie asked, shaking her head.
Melody nodded. “Yeah, of course, I’m serious. Why else do you think we came out to this backwoods part of the galaxy
? So, what do you say? Wanna become a space pirate?”
Jodie laughed long and hard until she was out of breath. Melody still looked at her, waiting for an answer.
“Wait,” Jodie said. “Was that a real question? Fuck yes, I want to become a space pirate.”
Melody grinned, squeezing Devron’s hand. Now, there was really nothing she could want for.
“Well,” she said, tugging Devron behind her, “if you’re sticking around, there’s someone you should meet.”
