The Embryo of the Star Page 8

by Elberto V Badon

“That’s very enlightening indeed, Professor,” the emperor praised the senior scientist. “At this moment perhaps we’ve already found some solution to Kareen’s proposal. I would suggest that we finalize this right away.”

“For the sake of good order, we’ll consider Miss Sandover’s proposal, but first we’ll see the computer simulation, if that celestial body has the capability to perform the massive ozone cleansing.” The professor assured Kareen, “We could arrange the orbit in a spiral pattern beyond the equator before it gradually descends to the bottomless pit.”

“I’m looking forward to a rejuvenated Earth, sir. . . free from the hazard of ultraviolet rays,” the satisfied environmental advocate voiced her bright hope.

  Then everyone started to disperse.

“Mark, Professor, please stay for a while. . .. I just want to request a few minutes of your precious time,” Eddie Parconi asked.

Mark and Kareen remained seated while the others left.

“What’s that, my boy?” the professor asked Eddie.

“I need your opinion about some of the phenomenal things mentioned in the old religious scriptures that have something relevant to our recent discussion.”

“Yep . . . go on," the professor replied.

“Like, for instance, when Joshua and thousands of his people marched around the walled city of Jericho every morning and on the seventh day they shouted simultaneously . . . the walls crumbled. . .. Scientists in the past had an explanation: The city was situated below sea level. That’s why their consolidated voices modulated into destructive force, which I believe is scientifically possible. And my problem now is this: the biblical global flood. The same Scriptures mentioned that there was a continuous rainfall for forty days and nights and the highest flood level was twenty-five feet above the highest mountain peak of the Earth. . .. In my opinion, this is totally impossible. . .. You know why? . . . It’s a fact that Mount Everest is the highest mountain peak of the Earth, with an elevation greater than 8,000 meters above the sea. Likewise, some parts of the Middle East and North Africa that are within the premises of the biblical lands also have mountain ranges . . . particularly the western Arabian highlands along the Red Sea and the Ethiopian highlands approaching the 2,000-meter elevation or beyond. . ..

“And now, if we examine the precipitation in the rain-prone regions of the Earth in the twentieth century-say the Philippines—which has an average rainfall of 120 millimeters per day during the month of July, or we maximize it ten times more, say, 1,200 millimeters per day just to satisfy the word continuous . . . by simple arithmetic the maximum flood level would only be 48 meters above sea level. ... and even if we consider that the Yucatan explosion had spewed enough acrid fumes to melt the Earth’s polar caps. ... . Still it won’t yield a great volume of water higher than 100 meters above sea level. Isn’t the Antarctic ozone hole one of the floodgates of the sky that has opened and has siphoned the gases’ concentration beyond the ozone layer as mentioned in the Scriptures?”

“Eddie, let’s assume that this floodgate played a major role in sucking those gases. But holy cow, how can you find a way to siphon off the eight-kilometer-depth rainwater that engulfed the Earth? . . . Just observe the ocean tide; does it subside deeper? . . . You must be aware that man’s fictitious manuscripts contain many obscure occurrences whose substance scientists attempted to prove. Most of the time they ended up at a blank wall. The reason why? . . . They are always confronted with the well-entrenched ‘miracle theory.’ Like the reverend, who when confronted by some skeptics leaned toward this theory with immunity. So forget about it.” The professor shrugged.

Eddie was once a theology student, but his desire to discover the secrets of the universe had prompted him to shift to astrophysics. He thought to himself, how can science ignore the writing of those ancient people when they mentioned that there was “dome sky" above and below the land? No doubt they had the early knowledge that the Earth is round.

“Um . . . I think I can offer an explanation about this global flood controversy . . . but first you must be aware that I don’t want my opinion to be dragged with bias into any sects," Mark forewarned. “Allow me to retrieve and expand some portion of my theory of creation. Let’s say that the Earth was still in the early stage of development, where the land was totally engulfed by a very deep saline water, and also in this stage the synthesis of the different active viruses or organic molecules present in the saline water had taken place and they had begun to form into various kinds of living organisms, such as coral and shells, to mention a few.

“As the pressure buildup underneath the submerged land increased, the spheroid was inflated considerably; massive marine lands composed of numerous materials of different densities began to appear in the atmospheric environment throughout the globe surrounded by the vast saline water. But be aware that in this developmental stage we’re not talking of short decade intervals but hundreds of thousands of years. As the land achieved its low-level paradise forms, different types of vegetation sprouted and the Earth was inhabited by various species of living creatures but lacked the highly elevated mountains and hills that occurred in the later stage. Since then many colossal explosions have occurred in this planet from an unknown origin . . .

“Perhaps one of these blasts spewed a tremendous amount of mineral particles into the atmosphere, covering worldwide, and acted as a catalyst that liquefied the condensed gas deposits and likewise the highly rich concentration of heavy hydrogen, better known as deuterium, above the ozone layer along the equatorial rim has contributed to the never-ending heavy rains and flooded the infant planet’s previously dry surface. As the flood rose, the hydraulic pressure on the seabed increased and forced the water to percolate deeper to the crust crevices like the Marianas deep and caused the continental plates to loosen. Furthermore, the unrelenting power transmitted to the underground geological forces pushed the lands of different densities to expand, thus gradually forming the high mountains and hills. And on some higher mountain peaks the crust became thinner and enabled the magma geyser to punch through. This chronicles the building process of volcanos. Is this simple explanation acceptable to you, Eddie?”

“I don’t want to say yes or no. . . . I’ll consult my PC simulator later," Eddie replied.

“Mark, do you have any idea what’s the secret of those ancient biblical people's longevity that reached several hundred years?" Kareen asked. “Was it because they were vegetarians with a clean and green environment?”

“I think it’s not a question of balanced diet and healthy environment." Mark replied. “But rather it’s a matter of technical inconsistencies in the way people were interpreting time. We all know that the complete orbit of the Earth around the sun is equivalent to one year, which has been the basis of yearly counting from the distant past up to the twentieth century and in our time. It is apparent that the early Earth revolved faster around the sun due to its smaller size compared to its overinflated size in the twentieth century. The effect of space drag on its overblown size was to slow it down. Imagine how fast the early Earth was compared to its speed of seventeen miles per minute in the twentieth century? So there’s a great discrepancy in comparing their ages. . .. Those early people in the biblical era mentioned that their life expectancy was five hundred to nine hundred years, which may turn out to be the equivalent of fifty to ninety years in the twentieth century. . ..

“Now, here’s another paradox. In the time of Abraham, the grand patriarch claimed by our brothers, the Jews, Muslims, and Christians, his first wife became pregnant at the age of ninety. Naturally. the gynecologists and the fertility specialists shall raise their eyebrows, because they insist that only scientific wonders can achieve this postmenopausal pregnancy . . . that is, by inserting a donor’s several cultured growing embryos in the ‘grandma's’ womb. Actually, if we apply a constant time comparison, the ancient grandma could have been missing a hairline of her twentieth century’s counterpart menopausal limit of ar
ound forty-five years. . .. Barring any future trouble, the way the Earth behaves now, I’m afraid that our future women will wonder how come their menses cease at the age of twenty? Does this satisfy your inquiry, Kareen?"

“It’s puzzling. . .. It’s a question of X equal to Z,” Kareen declared. “But at least you’ve given us a fresh idea."

“How about you, Eddie?" Mark asked.

“For a moment maybe you deserve a cup of tea or cappuccino,” was Eddie’s smiling reply. “Come with me to the eatery, Mark. . .. I’ve some more vague questions to discuss with you. . .. If you don’t mind . . . about this widely accepted anthropologists’ theory of evolution that man started from Australopithecus afarenses—in short, apes some 4 million years ago, which in some cases may be true, but not in my case . . . Kareen: look at my features. See . . . I’m absolutely handsome! . . . Aren’t I?”

“Look. who’s talking. . .. C’mon, Eddie, organize a safari to Africa, exhume your ancestors there, and as ancient as your Sperikithec aparinus fossil find shall be, you still end up as an ordinary jungle ape. For me, I agree with Mark that there were already some lifeforms when all the land was still underwater . . . and I’m certain that my ancestors started from there,” Kareen boasted. “I can tell you, Eddie, they were the earliest among the intelligent species.”

“Aha, your ancestors were hatched?” Eddie laughed while joining his palms and demonstrating a blooming shell.

“You’re right, Eddie . . . but not from an ordinary shell but a giant clamshell . . . from a couple of wandering organic molecules who had checked into the clamshell’s womb . . . and abracadabra! . . . My ancestor was born who had the form of the enchanting mermaid of Copenhagen.”

“Ayayyay! . . . Vamos, compañero . . . let’s get out of here before the next strong wind blows. . .. I may throw this smelly creature back into the frozen Scandinavian sea.” Eddie covered his nose with his white handkerchief while pulling Mark’s left arm.

“Get lost, lousy paceman!” Kareen barked.

Kareen and the professor stayed behind.

“Calm down . . . calm down, my enchanting mermaid,” the professor tried to pacify Kareen.

  “I’m very sorry, professor."

“Next time, in any discussion, try to hold your composure. . .. Your number one enemy is yourself . . . especially when you’re involved in a very complicated topic. . .. I don’t know how you’ll handle this situation if you end up debating each other on which came first, the hen or the egg?”

“I take note of your advice, Professor. . .. By the way, Professor, what’s your stand regarding Mark’s explanation of the biblical global flood?"

“I resist being tempted anew. . .. At the moment we may think that his explanation is acceptable . . . but days later we’ll be surprised when someone comes and presents a more wide-ranging, convincing explanation that supersedes his theory... No doubt, ‘till this moment I’m still convinced of his notion that the planets expanded, but what I’m refuting now is his explanation about the sequence of the creation of the solar system. It doesn’t fit with the present physical structures of the solar system. There’s lot of loopholes. Too late . . . I don’t want to discuss it now. It may erode his credibility. That will be no good to any of us. . .. We must let the people continue in their belief that we have a super-genius kid with us who is ready to contribute his extraordinary know-how whenever we encounter some complex problem . . . a sort of morale booster.”

“I understand what you mean, Professor,” Kareen replied and in a low-toned voice she uttered, “yet he is delivering."

“Kareen, I’ve a challenging job awaiting you,” the professor informed the relieved journalist. “Follow me to my office; we'll work out the spy-op details . . . you shall infiltrate the IPO secretariat very soon.”

“Professor, just for the sake of clarity, about Mark’s explanation regarding the source of the global rainfall, didn't the spewed chemical particles or flaming boulders create ‘windows’ in the ozone layer that allowed the deuterium to get in until it was almost exhausted, to be plugged later by the outrushing flow of helium gas?”

“In theory you’re right, Kareen, if there really was a global flood. It has served as a convergence spot that leaves no trace of those ozone windows. This may hold true only with smaller areas of perforation. I do hope that you can capitalize on this degree of sharpness in your mission.”

In the canteen Mark and Eddie served themselves with hot Brazilian coffee.

“Do you know, Mark, why I dropped my theology studies during my sophomore year?” Eddie began to confide his problem seriously. “You know why?”

  “Go on. I’ m listening.”

“Our professor couldn’t provide me with reasonable answers to some of my inquiries, especially in Genesis. When Cain was driven away from paradise in an instant he met his soulmate outside the forbidden garden. I asked my professor, ‘Where did this girl came from? Who were her parents when, in fact, Adam and Eve only had two male offspring?' And again, this first couple begot another son, and just the same, he took somebody as his wife. Still there’s no explanation where those girls came from. And it is also mentioned that all mankind perished during the great flood except the family of Noah. How were these lucky people able to produce the black Pygmies, the Polynesians, and the yellow Asians? . . . And on the contrary, scientists have very strong evidence that mankind started from apes.”

“You know, for the sake of curiosity, I’ve read so much religious literature and mythology. I’ve read the Mahabharata, ‘Hari Krishna, the Book of Mormon, the Koran, the Bible, the books of Taoism and Buddhism, the Greek mythology, and lots of others. It surprised me that the Koran and the Bible are very similar to each other in terms of events and leading characters, particularly in the Old Testament. Some of its events had scientific explanations while most were the by-product of the supernatural,” Mark explained. “Regarding your inquiry, I could offer you only a speculative explanation, but first let’s be flexible and we’ll try to accommodate what is being written. Read about the sixth day of creation. . .. It’s mentioned there, ‘And now, we will create human beings similar to ourselves . . . ' This implies that the Supernatural Creator was talking to His companions and we couldn’t categorically say that His heavenly friends were all white and good-looking, but rather a mixture of looks. And they, too, created mankind in different parts of the globe with a resemblance to their faces and colors.

“It is also mentioned that once those angels saw that the daughters of their creations were so beautiful the angels were enticed to take them as their wives. And so likewise, Cain and his younger brother could have taken their wives from one of the angels’ creations 'and offspring. And it’s foolish for these angels to let their family drown in the raging flood without saving them. Surely they loved their kids, too. These angels had all the prerogative to save their brethren and scattered them elsewhere in the world. Maybe this explains the aborigines at some extreme parts of the Earth, such as the black Pygmies, the Polynesians in the Pacific, the Eskimos of the Arctic, and the American Indians. Furthermore, with the advent of the greatly advanced and sophisticated instruments it won’t take long before scientists will be able to unlock all the complex secrets of the universe that have puzzled mankind."

“Mark, if we give considerable weight to the close encounters of the immortal gods and the mortal women who’s offspring mostly grew up as giants who spread all over the world and were considered great men and famous heroes of long ago, in this case I would say that they’re directly involved in the development of the lost world . . . particularly, the Aztec temples and some strange markers that can be noticed only from the sky. Another interesting angle was the ‘temple of King Solomon.’ According to the Holy Scripture’s account, the temple was deliberately built without creating any hammering sound . . . the heavy structural elements were crafted far away from the construction site and hauled piece by piece by the king’s subjects. Theoretically, this system was impossibl
e . . . it requires heavy mechanical equipment in order to attained those achievements. . ..

“This shows that this was not the craftsmanship of any ordinary mortals of the ancient times but definitely of a higher order. . .. In contrast, it’s a pity for those people who dwelled in the caves that their lazy immortal ancestors probably abandoned them. You know, Mark when Moses was leading the Hebrews out of Egypt, he ordered his selected men to spy out the land of Canaan. His spies returned and reported to him that the land was so fertile and rich that the people were very powerful. What worried them was that they saw the descendants of the ‘giants’ there. So you’re right, Mark, that the immortal gods really saved their kids during the great flood.”

“You’re really determined to rewrite the history of mankind, Eddie, huh?”

“You’re right, Mark, and what I’m thinking now is that I’ll try to analyze the creation of the universe in the versions of other religions, which I believe have a lot of smoking guns.”

“I look forward to that wonderful subject, Eddie."

“Mark, if you don’t mind, can we continue our discussion?

“Yes, I can spare a half hour.”

“Thanks, Mark. . .. You know, Mark, the term floodgates of the sky, is very intriguing. . .. You know why? . . . We interpret it literally, it implies not only the mere presence of a heavy hydrogen concentration above the sky, like what you had in mind earlier, but a vast volume of water reservoir there as well.” Eddie urged, “There must have been water ponding up there during the early days.”

“Hey, buddy, how do you reach that complicated hypothesis?” Mark wondered. “You mean there was an ocean above the sky? What a joke; c’mon, think rationally."
