by R. L. Stine
We all piled eagerly out of the bus. I took a deep breath and stretched. The air smelled so sweet and fresh. A full moon made the front lawn shine.
Then I saw him. It was a Horror, and he was clinging to the back of our bus. “Oh, no!” I cried out.
“What are you doing there?” Dad demanded.
“Did you ride there the whole way home?” Luke asked in disbelief.
I shrank back as the Horror let go of the bus and slid to the ground. His yellow eyes studied us menacingly. He moved toward us quickly.
Clay and Luke hid behind Dad. Mom’s mouth dropped open in fright.
“What do you want?” I cried.
He reached out his green hand. “Here,” he said. “We forgot to give you your free passes for next year!”

Q & A with R.L. Stine
If HorrorLand were an actual place, which ride or attraction would you visit first?
R.L. Stine (RLS): GOOD-BYE LAND! HorrorLand is too scary for me! I’d want to go home — though I would enjoy the Werewolf Petting Zoo. Wolf cubs are so cute … unless they are teething. Their baby fangs are sharp!
What’s the scariest ride or attraction you’ve ever experienced in real life?
RLS: If you don’t count driving with my wife — I’d say it was riding The Beast, a famous roller coaster in Cincinnati. I wrote a book about The Beast so I had to ride it. I was really scared. I couldn’t wait for the ride to be over. But The Beast is the longest wooden roller coaster anywhere. I thought the ride would never end. And guess what? When it ended, my son wanted to ride it again — so I had to ride it twice!
Readers are invited back to your famous SCREAM park in the all-new series, Goosebumps HorrorLand. Why did you choose to set the series in HorrorLand?
RLS: HorrorLand is a place where anything can happen — as long as it’s creepy. The place gives me so many ways to scare and surprise my readers. Like all amusement parks, HorrorLand is always adding new rides and tortures — I mean, new rides and ATTRACTIONS.
Fans can explore the park at EnterHorrorLand.com, and now there’s even a video game! When you wrote the original One Day at HorrorLand, did you have any idea that the park would take on a life of its own? Are you surprised that fans can’t get enough of such a scary place?
RLS: Hey, my fans like to be scared—and HorrorLand is a great place for scares.
Two characters named Luke and Lizzy are hiding maps and clues in the back of every Goosebumps HorrorLand book. Are they the same Luke and Lizzy Morris from One Day at HorrorLand?. Can you share any secrets about what will happen to them?
RLS: I don’t want to give away too many secrets. But I will tell you that Luke and Lizzy haven’t seen the last of HorrorLand yet!

tomb? To find out, DIG UP the new collector’s edition

Return to HorrorLand
ORIGINS The Horrors are the green-and-purple monsters who work at HorrorLand theme park. Their job is to terrify people, and they love what they do. According to the founder of HorrorLand, they were hired because their monster costumes looked so realistic. Later, he realized that they might not be wearing costumes at all! Most Horrors seem to have yellow eyes, sharp fangs, and long tails.
SPECIAL POWERS Ever since the Attack of the Mad Pincher (as described in One Day at HorrorLand), the Horrors have learned new ways to become 100% pinch-proof.
WEAKNESSES Sometimes the Horrors get hungry. Very hungry. Just ask any visitors with bite marks on their arms.
LIVING OR DEAD? Living
FAVORITE PHRASE “Welcome to HorrorLand!”
HOBBIES & INTERESTS After a long day at work, the Horrors enjoy watching TV shows like American Eye-Skull and Dancing with the Squids.

Tips and Tricks for
Goosebumps HorrorLand:
The Video Game
If you’ve played the new Goosebumps HorrorLand video game, you know that terrible trouble lurks everywhere. Follow the advice below, and maybe you can survive long enough to escape HorrorLand — just like Luke and Lizzy Morris did!
1 Tokens are hidden throughout the park, and you’ll need them to play games. As you explore the park, look for things that wiggle or move as you pass by. This indicates that the item has tokens.
2 If you are lost, click any signpost in the park to find your way.
3 Dial-a-Vampire! Go to the pay phones in Vampire Village for a good laugh.
4 In Bumper Carnage, watch out for The Pit. It could end your ride early! But if you knock another car into the pit, it is destroyed instantly.
5 Earn frights on rides to unlock new areas of the park, including Vampire Village, Mad Labs, Fever Swamp, and Terror Tombs.
6 Check the map in each park area to make sure that you haven’t missed any rides or attractions.
7 If you get stuck at a hedge in the HorrorLand Derby, throw a ball in the green “JUMP” slot.
8 Look for hidden targets while you’re on the Roller Ghoster. For example, aim for the eyes behind the vampire painting in the bedroom.
9 Hit the bats in Garlic Crusher for big points, but watch out! If you miss one, you’ll lose your bonus multiplier.
10 Shoot the pirates in Bog-Topus before they cover you in slime!
11 Be extra careful when you’re standing next to a pit in Mummy Run. If you roll a stumble, you’ll fall in.
12 In Flash Fright, use your flashlight to momentarily stun the vampires. Even if you don’t have enough power in your flashlight to defeat them, you can buy a little time to recharge.
13 In Brain Drain, the faster you pump, the faster you’ll drain the brains. So don’t be lazy! Also, to grab tokens in Brain Drain, just point at a token and shoot it as if it were one of the brains.
14 In the second hole of Putt Cemetery, the only way to get the ball through the castle is to whack it as hard as you can.
15 Talk to all the other kids around the park. They will offer helpful hints like where to find tokens or Monster Cards.
SECRET BONUS: Want an extra Monster Card? In Vampire Village, find the Cursed Carriage and run around it three times, counterclockwise.
