An Old Flame

“We’ll hire a male escort. I’ve got this client who knows a great …”
“I’m not bringing home a male escort. Have you lost your mind?”
Ashley grabbed her cup and lifted it to her lips. “Well, I’ve got nothing else.”
Jenna fell silent too, and focused on her latte. After a while, she glanced at her watch. “I’ll worry about looking pathetic at Noah’s wedding later. Right now, I’ve got to get home. Today is the day.”
Ashley gasped. “That’s right, your brother’s hot best friend is coming.”
“My God, Ashley, is every man hot to you? You don’t even know what he looks like.”
Nodding, Ashley tapped her chin. “Yup, just about every being with a penis is hot to me. A girl can’t be too picky. All the good ones are either married or gay.”
Forgetting about her man trouble, Jenna dissolved into laughter. “You might be on to something. But, you’re actually right. Adam is hot. Very hot.”
Adam Hunter was the star of all her teenage wet dreams and more than a fair share of her adult ones. She hadn’t laid eyes on him in eight years. Jenna was eighteen when he left, and she’d been heartbroken watching the love of her life walk away. Of course, Adam had no idea whatsoever that he was the love of her pathetic teenage life.
“Oh, do I detect a story here? Maybe some fooling around between you and your brother’s BFF?”
“I wish,” Jenna said. Oh, how she had dreamed. “Adam is three years older, and I was always his friend’s geeky, little sister. But, I’m an adult now, and my crush on him is dead.”
“Are you sure? Because having him live with you could get sticky.”
“Please, I was just a kid when I fooled myself into thinking I was in love with an older boy. And he won’t be living with me. He’s crashing on my couch for a little while until he gets himself together. It’ll be fine.”
Jenna finished her latte and gathered her phone and handbag. She noticed Ashley’s skeptical stare and huffed. “I said I’ll be fine, Ash. I doubt I’m going to want to jump my brother’s best friend after eight years.”
“Even after a one-year dry spell?”
“Ashley, I would have thought you knew me better than that. Adam is a hazard to any woman’s emotional stability. He was the proverbial playboy back in high school, and I can only imagine that he’s gotten worse. I play it safe when it comes to men, especially after Bryce. Like I said, sharing a space with a man who was practically family growing up won’t be a problem. I want to do this favor for both Adam and my brother.”
“Okay,” Ashley said, softly. “Go on, get out of here. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Sure thing.”

There was no sign of Adam when Jenna reached her apartment building. She expected him to be waiting outside. Maybe she’d gotten the days mixed up, and he was arriving tomorrow instead. Taking another glance down the hallway, she strolled to her door, key in hand.
Jenna’s heart skipped a beat when she realized that the door was open. For a second, alarm mounted but was quickly dampened when she remembered that she often forgot to lock her door, especially when she was in a rush. Shaking her head at her own carelessness, she made a mental note to double check the door in the mornings. She stepped into her apartment and dropped her keys on the side table.
“Angel, where are you?” It was strange that her cat hadn’t come running, as she usually did. Jenna rounded the corner. “What kind of mischief are you up to, girl? If you’ve torn up another one of my pillows …”
Jenna stopped in her tracks when she saw a man sitting on her couch, stroking her slate-gray Russian Blue. She let out a scream that rivaled any scream queen in any horror movie, and instantly reached for the weapon closest to her—a frail standing lamp that had done its time, but she couldn’t bring herself to throw it away. If she wasn’t frightened out of her mind, she would have found her choice of weapon hilarious.
“How much damage do you think you can cause with that little thing?” The intruder’s voice rang with laughter.
The deep chuckle was all too familiar, and when her panicked haze dissipated, and her vision cleared, her mouth dropped open.
“Adam?”
His smile was slow, lazy, and still of panty-dropping quality after eight years. His eyes were unreadable, as he swept her from head to toe. “Jenna Benson, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.”
Jenna gulped, already concerned with the way his smooth baritone made her stomach clench, as her outrage at finding him in her living room had already vanished. Angel, her cat, perched beside Adam on the couch, spared her a glance and purred, rolling over to give Adam’s stroking fingers better access to her furry belly. Jenna nearly snorted. Angel never took to strangers like that. The cat was relaxed and enjoying every swipe of Adam’s fingers. Then again, what female wouldn’t want to be stroked by Adam?
He had nice, long fingers, attached to strong hands that led to massive biceps. Adam was still too gorgeous for his own good. He had the same movie star features except they were more chiseled, and more masculine than she had remembered. Not to mention that his sterling gray eyes didn’t shine with boyish mischief, as they had when he was younger. They were serious, aged as if he’d seen too many unpleasant things, yet she still found herself falling into them.
Jenna shook her head, breaking the spell. “Angel usually hides from strangers. You have a way with cats.”
Adam grinned and gave Angel one last pat before standing up. Jenna’s eyes were glued to him, entranced by his graceful movements. He was over six feet of pure muscle packaged in smooth, tanned skin and covered by military garb.
“I love pussies,” he said. “I usually prefer them a little less hairy, though.”
Jenna nearly choked on her spit when his lips curved into a sinful smirk. And there was the wicked humor that she remembered. Jenna felt heat creep up her neck and spread across her face.
“Well, baby girl,” he said using his old moniker for her, “Where’s my hug?” He spread his arms and smiled.

Adam
The second Adam wrapped his arms around Jenna, he regretted it.
Holy fuck.
Why was his little Jenna so far from adorable and further along the spectrum of sexy? When had Jenna gotten so hot? He felt dirty hugging the girl he’d grown up with because, as she pressed into him, all he could think about were her breasts pressed against his chest. And Jenna had an amazing rack from what he’s glimpsed. He didn’t remember her having any boobs at all the last he saw her. He shouldn’t have made that stupid pussy joke because now he could see himself stroking Jenna’s pussy.
Ah! Hell. He wanted to power wash his mind with soap.
Adam pulled himself back from Jenna and stepped away to keep from perving out his best friend’s sister any further. That didn’t stop him from checking her out even further. Maybe if he treated her like the kid he remembered, his body would stop its outrageous reactions to her. It was no use, though. Her wide, jade green eyes were smiling at him. They were set perfectly on her heart-shaped face, and they made her look way too innocent. Then there was her perfect, little nose above her perfect lips that he suddenly wanted to taste. Were her lips always that full? Her strawberry-blonde hair was much shorter than he remembered. The silky strands hung in a sleek, sophisticated bob, barely brushing her shoulders. She had both sides tucked behind her ears, and he noticed that even her ears were cute. Since when did he admire ears on a woman? Good god, his shocking attraction to Jenna was quickly causing him to lose his mind.
“It’s good to see you, Adam. It’s been so long.” Her flawlessly arched brows dipped into a scowl. “But, you broke into my apartment!”
Blinking, Adam pulled himself from his lustful haze. “I was trying to prove a point.”
“Excuse me? What point could breaking and entering possibly prove?”
“That you’re not safe enough living here.”
Jenna’s eyes widene
d, and her lips parted. Adam had to drag his eyes away from the temptation that was her mouth, but he still found himself wondering if her lips were as soft as they looked. All of her looked soft. He could imagine how smooth her creamy, porcelain skin was. Her face was tinged with a hint of pink, and he began to imagine how flushed her skin would get if he took her over the top a few times. His new obsession was wondering how Jenna looked in the throes of passion. Adam gave himself a mental kick and reminded himself to focus.
She’s Noah’s sister. She’s Noah’s sister.
Maybe the more he chanted it, the less likely he would be to forget that Jenna was off limits. His dick didn’t get the memo, however, because it twitched when she folded her arms beneath her breasts, pulling her white silk blouse tighter across her chest.

My Not So Fake Boyfriend
So before we dive in here—I think I should tell you that Jenna Benson hasn’t been laid in a year. Yeah…a whole year.
She was dating a guy who turned out to be such a douche bag that she actually moved away from her home town because the story he’d spun for everyone was that she just wasn’t good enough.
But, anyway, that’s not the point of the story.
Jenna’s brother is getting married in a couple of weeks and his best friend in the whole world, Adam, (who’s just got out of the Navy by the way) is coming to crash at her place for a while and they’re going to be driving home for the wedding together.
I suppose I should mention that she knows Adam since she was 9 years old and has been crushing on this guy her entire life (not that she’d admit it of course). She hasn’t seen him in 8 years though. She gets home and he’s just let himself in (more like broke in to prove how little security the place has) to her apartment.
“Adam?”
His smile was slow, lazy, and still of panty-dropping quality after eight years.
His eyes were unreadable, as he swept her from head to toe. “Jenna Benson, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.”

“Well, baby girl,” he said, using his old moniker for her, “Where’s my hug?” He spread his arms and smiled.
Now, that doesn’t mean that this is all one sided of course.
The second Adam wrapped his arms around Jenna, he regretted it.
Holy f***.

Think you know where this is going? Nope.
Because Jenna’s stupid brother has invited her ex to the wedding (they used to be friends, go figure?), and there’s no way in hell she’s going to turn up dateless.
Jenna knows there’s not enough time to meet someone that she would realistically be able to date long enough to justify taking to the wedding…so she begs Adam to be her fake boyfriend!
Bad idea, right? I mean there’s already enough sexual tension to cut with a knife…AND…Adam practically grew up in their house…so you KNOW there’s going to be a ton of maneuvering to do.
I bet you want to know what happens…because pretend can go to real pretty quick given the right circumstances...and there's plenty that's right between Adam and Jenna!
There’s family, drama, laughs, tension and a WHOLE lot of steam in this sizzlingly sexy, brand new, heart-melter of a romance!
