Weston had moved so he was on his knees in front of me, his hands braced on my knees pushing them open as I leaned forward so as not to lose my grip on him. Our faces were so close, I swallowed hard, everything I wanted in this moment was shining in his eyes as they bored into mine.
Promises of earth shattering sex and orgasms that would send me to the stars were looking right at me and I had to refuse.
My hand dropped away from him and came back to rest in my lap as I sat back against the seat. Weston’s eyes narrowed, “Is there ever going to be a right time for us?” he asked.
I sat back up and cupped his jaw between my hands, “Yes, I promise.” I pressed my forehead to his and breathed him in, “As soon as they get back from their honeymoon, I’ll talk to him then.”
Weston shook his head softly, “Are you sure about that? Sure you won’t come up with another excuse why you can’t talk to him? Because that’s what this feel like, like I’m your dirty little secret you’re too afraid to tell anyone about.”
My eyes widened, I pulled back enough to look him in the eye, “No, you know that’s not true. I want to be with you more than anything. I swear.” I pressed a soft kiss against his lips, “But I can’t lose Finn in the process. Just two more weeks, I promise you, I’ll talk to him as soon as they get back.”
He sighed and moved back on to the seat beside me, he took my hand in his and held it for the rest of the drive to the reception. But he didn’t speak again.
Guilt that I’d made him feel like that ate at me. If I could be sure Finn wouldn’t react badly I’d tell him tonight, right now, but I wasn’t. I had no idea how he’d react.
We arrived at the restaurant that we’d booked out for the night about ten minutes later, and Weston helped me out of the car like the gentleman he was. “Thank you,” I whispered, yet he only gave a slight nod in response. My shoulders sagged, I hated that I made him feel this way.
Finn, Nix, Luke, and Beth had already arrived so we strolled over to join them in the foyer of the restaurant. I’d never seen Finn so happy, it was infectious. I smiled as I took in his love struck gaze locked in on Nixie.
They were so perfect for each other. I couldn’t be happier for them. But myself? I really needed to talk to Finn.
The meals were delicious and the wine was a-flowin.’ Thankfully, because I had a speech to make and I knew it was going to get messy. When the MC announced that it was my turn to give my speech I downed the remainder of my glass, stood on unsteady feet and took the microphone from him.
Here goes nothin,’ “Hi everyone. I’m going to keep it short and sweet, just like our beautiful bride tonight.” I shot Nixie a little wink and she grinned back as a blush filled her cheeks. “Firstly, as Finn’s mum I’d like to thank everyone for coming and showing your support today, I know it means a lot to Finn and Nixie that you came to share this special day with them, but it means so much to me too.
“Finn, my amazing boy, I’m so proud of you. You have grown to be a man that not only am I proud to call my son, but now Nixie is proud to call her husband. And Nixie my girl, I know you will look after him, you already do by just being you.
“So I will leave you with this tiny piece of advice, hold each other pure and true, you are all each other will ever need, as long as you never stop saying those magical words, I love you.”
I handed the microphone back to the MC then wobbled back to my seat. Both emotional and a teensy tiny bit tipsy.
Weston had pulled my chair out for me and I plonked down in it gratefully. Then he took his place at the makeshift podium to give his speech.
He cleared his throat, and squeezed the mike in his hand, “Uh, well we all know I’m not one for speeches but it is my duty as best man and best friend to pay the piss out of Finn, so here goes. Nix, you should have seen the pathetic mess Finn became when you guys broke up back in high school. I’m talkin’ total breakdown, emotional little bitch territory. He was so pathetic, I considered making him hand in his man card.
“Anyway, the point is without you he’s a whiny little bitch, so thank you Nix, for taking his sorry arse back and kissing it all better. You’ve made my life a lot easier.” He shot a wink at Nixie then handed the mike back to the MC.
On his way back past Finn he punched him in the shoulder, and Finn took it with pride. When he sat back down beside me, I leaned into him and whispered, “Nice speech, best man.”
He nodded in acknowledgement, but still didn’t speak to me. He was still upset about our conversation in the car, and I couldn’t blame him. I felt like a colossal bitch. Signalling the waiter, I ordered a gin and tonic, with more gin than tonic. I was going to need it to get through this night with a broody Weston at my side.
Before my drink had a chance to make it into my hot little hands, it was time for the first dance. The whole bridal party came to stand by the dancefloor as Finn and Nixie gazed into each other’s eyes while slowly making their way around the floor. They’d chosen Kissing You by Des’ree, and the music filled the room with a sultry atmosphere.
When it was time, Weston took my hand and led me onto the floor at the same time Luke moved Beth onto the dancefloor, and we all began to move around the room to the smooth rhythm of the song.
But even while we danced, Weston wouldn’t make eye contact with me. As the song bled into Sweet Baby by Macy Grey and more couples filled the floor, I grew tired of him ignoring me.
I slid my hands up his shoulders to rest around his neck as I gently ran my fingers through the hair at the base of his neck. I felt him shiver then noticed him grit his jaw. “Weston, come on, look at me.” I pleaded softly.
He closed his eyes tightly for a moment, when he opened them, and focused on me they were full of regret. “I’m sorry. It’s just hard having you so close and not being able to touch you the way I want to. The way I need to.”
“I know, it’s okay, I get it.” I whispered.
Taking a deep breath, he shook his head gently, “It’s not okay, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”
I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder as the song moved into yet another. I didn’t want to stop dancing, I wanted to stay in his arms all night.
We danced together until a man I didn’t recognise tapped Weston on the shoulder and asked if he could cut in. I frowned, “I’m sorry, what was your name?” I asked.
He was really good looking, he had this silver fox thing going on. Imagine a middle aged Harrison Ford type, with slight greying by his temples. He grinned at my blatant assessment of him, and held his hand out for me to shake. Once I placed my hand in his he began to introduce himself.
“I’m Nixie’s single, baggage free, uncle, Chad.” His eyes glittered with mirth.
I chuckled, “Ah, nice to meet you Chad. I assume you know who I am since you’re the one trying to cut in on my best man time.” I raised a brow as I waited for his reply.
Weston still had one hand curled around me, and his hand gripped my hip a little tighter at Chad’s mention of being single. I slid my hand down and rested it over his to reassure him.
Chad smirked, “I believe I’m supposed to be your designated wedding sex.”
I choked on the air I was attempting to breathe. Weston’s whole body tensed. I glanced at him to find his jaw clenched tight and his free hand balled into a fist. And judging by his stance, he was holding back from kicking Chad’s arse by a very thin tread. I turned into him, placing myself between the two.
“Can you give me a minute?” I asked Weston and his eyes narrowed dangerously on me. I moved slightly closer and whispered, “Let me get to the bottom of this then I’ll come find you.”
His response was a stiff nod, then he was gone, disappearing into the crowd. Before I even had a chance to feel guilty for sending him away a hand landed on my hip spinning me around to face Chad.
He moved in with smooth, precise movements, taking my hips in his hands, not my waist. My eyes bulged, “Uh Chad, might I ask where you got the impr
ession I need wedding sex arranged for me?” I moved his hands up to my waist as I spoke.
A single brow was his instant response, “Are you disappointed?”
I reared back slightly, “Ah, well no, I mean I wasn’t,” I huffed, “Who asked you to be my wedding sex?”
His hands slowly moved back down to my hips again and I didn’t bother moving them again. He wasn’t being creepy about it, I just felt weird having another man’s hands on me.
“Nixie may have mentioned that she thought you could do with a little stress relief.” He murmured as he twirled me around the dancefloor.
What the actual fuck? You couldn’t make this stuff up. I mean really, my daughter-in-law setting me up with her uncle for wedding sex? Doesn’t this shit only happen in movies?
I cleared my throat, “Well, I’m really sorry to disappoint you Chad, but I won’t be requiring your services tonight after all. But thanks for the effort, you look fantastic. I’m sure there are other single ladies waiting in the wings for an eligible bachelor such as yourself to sweep them off their feet.”
He smiled and nodded, “I figured as much, but I had to give it a shot. You’re too stunning to let an opportunity to have you in my arms pass. I’ll seek out these other available ladies after our dance, shall I?”
A breath I didn’t realise I’d been holding left my lungs with a sigh of relief, “Sounds good to me.” I grinned and then he was gone . . .
Weston had pulled him away from me and now stood between us. “Hand off mate, she’s spoken for.” He glared at Chad.
“Weston,” I tried but he turned his glare on me, then turned around completely to face me.
“Fuck this, Tory, I’m done waiting. I told Finn about us. It’s done.” Then his lips were on mine in a savagely possessive kiss, devouring any protest I might have had.
Ten Minutes Ago . . .
I could handle waiting another two weeks to be with Tory, I could. If I kept telling myself that I’d believe it eventually. And it wasn’t just the physical aspect of our relationship that I wanted to begin already. I wanted to be able to come home from work and kiss her, I wanted to hold her hand when we hung out with our friends.
But if I’d learned anything in the last couple of weeks it was that life is fleeting. And I didn’t want to waste any more time. But Tory needed to do this on her own terms, and if all I had to do was wait two little weeks to make her happy, then I would.
I’d been a dick earlier, and I felt like shit for it. I shouldn’t have taken it out on her. I know she wants to be with me.
Holding her in my arms, in that goddamn dress, with her breasts pushed up against my chest, I was struggling not to drag her off this dancefloor and shove her into a supply closet so I could worship her amazing body. That or wrap her up in my jacket so the other dudes in the room would stop ogling her.
Someone was going to end up with a broken nose if I didn’t get my shit together.
Then, out of the blue, someone tapped on my shoulder. Shifting my gaze there’s a dude standing there, eyeing Tory like she’s a tender juicy steak. I gritted my teeth, I really wanted to ignore him, but then he spoke.
“May I cut in?” he said over my shoulder.
Tory looked at him and frowned, “I’m sorry, what was your name?”
I stood there dumbfounded as Tory ran her eyes over his entire body, and the fucker grinned at my woman. Then held his hand out to her, waiting for her to shake it. She gave me the side eye before reaching out and placing her hand in his then he began to introduce himself.
“I’m Nixie’s single, baggage free, uncle, Chad.” His eyes ate her up. And I wanted to wipe that smug arse grin off his face.
Tory released a startled laugh, “Ah, nice to meet you. Chad. I assume you know who I am since you’re the one trying to cut in on my best man time.” She gestured to me with her chin.
I still had one hand curled around her, and my fingers tensed at Chad’s mention of being single. Tory noticed and subtly moved her hand down to hold mine on her hip.
Chad smirked, “I believe I’m supposed to be your designated wedding sex.”
My entire body tensed. I clenched my fist as rage and jealousy filled me. How fucking dare he? And why the fuck was it okay for him to speak to her like that? It really fucking wasn’t. But before I could drop him, Tory rotated her body into mine, bringing herself between us.
“Can you give me a minute?” she asked me, fucking me, she wanted me to give her a minute with her designated wedding sex, I don’t fucking think so. She got up on her tiptoes and moved slightly closer to me and whispered, “Let me get to the bottom of this then I’ll come find you.”
No fucking way was she handling this on her own. I glared at him over her exposed shoulder, he knew the score and he didn’t care. What a piece of shit. He knew we were a couple. I could see it in his twisted smirk.
I was handling this. Now.
Giving Tory a curt nod I turned on my heel and pushed my way through the throng of dancers around us until I spotted Finn and Nixie getting cozy in the far corner of the restaurant.
I stormed over to them, not caring who got in my way. They soon moved when they saw me coming anyway. As soon as I reached them I laid it all out, “I’m in love with Tory. She’s terrified she’ll lose you if she’s with me, but you wouldn’t do that to her, now would you.” It was a demand, not a question, and the taut expression on his face told me he knew it too.
Nixie grinned, “Chad introduced himself, did he?” she battered her lashes innocently.
My glare shifted to her, “You, what the fuck Nix? You set this up?”
She grinned wider, looking all proud of herself she announced, “Yep.”
Now she had not only my glare fixed on her, but Finn’s too. “What the fuck? What’s going on here?” Finn demanded of his new wife.
Turning into him she looked up at him from beneath her lashes, “It’s clear as day how they feel about each other. The only person who can’t see it is you, baby. I’m sorry, but they’re suffering because they’re both afraid of losing you. But I won’t let that happen. We’re a family, the four of us. And they’re hurting having to stay away from each other.
“Remember what that was like, Finn? When I was too afraid to be with you? It hurt both of us. I don’t want that for them, and neither do you.” She said as she gazed at him with love and compassion in her eyes.
It made so much sense when she put it like that. Why hadn’t I thought to put it to him like that? Right, because I’m not a chick.
Finn’s expression softened as she spoke. And damn it, so did mine. I wanted to be mad at her for fucking with us like that, but she’d done it with good intentions. I couldn’t hold that against her.
I watched my best friend as he processed everything his wife had said, and I waited for him to respond. It felt like forever before he finally looked at me, “If this is some sick MILF thing, you’ll be dead to me. Got it? There won’t be a second chance if you fuck this up.”
My eyes widened, “You know it’s not like that. It never has been.”
He closed his eyes and shook his head, “I don’t know what I know right now. Because apparently my mum and best friend have been jonesing for each other and I thought you were just being the man-whore extraordinaire you have always been around her.”
I grimaced and shook my head, “It’s never been like that with her, Finn. I joked about it to make it seem that way.” I rubbed the back of my neck, “I guess I wanted you to think I was just dicking around. I mean, it’s not like I could tell you I had fallen for your mum.”
Finn cringed, “I think I preferred it when I thought you were just being a dick.”
I nodded, “Yeah, I know. But we’re still cool though, right?”
Finn looked between me, Nixie and then over to the dancefloor where Nixie’s uncle still had his hands all over my woman, then back to me. “I’ll get over it, eventually.” He grinned and mock punched me in the shoulder.
&n
bsp; That was my cue, I didn’t waste any more time as I hotfooted it back to Tory. As soon as I was close enough I reached out and yanked Chad’s shoulder, pulling him away from Tory. “Hands off, mate, she’s spoken for.” I couldn’t stop glaring at the guy, even though I knew Nix had put him up to it.
“Weston,” Tory whispered from behind me.
I turned around fully, so I could look at her. I was still glaring. I was so worked up at this point I couldn’t stop. And my words came out harsher than I meant. “Fuck this, Tory, I’m done waiting. I told Finn about us. It’s done.”
Before she could protest, I dropped my head to her level and kissed her, in front of everyone. Voices hushed around us as I got lost in the feel of her lips against mine. I couldn’t stop, so I deepened the kiss. Sliding my tongue across her plump bottom lip.
Finally, her hands moved from her sides and up to hold my biceps. Then slowly glided up over my shoulders, my neck and into my hair at my nape. I fucking loved it when she did that.
My hands squeezed her hips tighter as I brought her body closer to mine so I could feel all her lush curves against my body. I groaned into her mouth and—
Someone tapped my shoulder.
Reluctantly I pulled away from her, and glanced over my shoulder at the offending hand still placed there.
Finn was standing behind me, looking none too impressed. “When I said I’d get over it, I meant it, but it would be a lot easier to do that if I didn’t have to witness you dry humping my mum on the dancefloor at my wedding. Or ever, actually.”
I grinned, “I’ll try to control myself.” I winked and he shook his head.
Poking his head around my shoulder he smiled at a furiously blushing Tory. “Hey,” he said, “it’s time for the father-daughter dance, I was thinkin’ you and I could take a spin around the floor and show ’em how it’s really done.”
Tory released a sigh of relief and stepped away from me, and into Finn’s waiting arms.
This moment, right here, was the happiest moment of my life.
