Love Without Loyalty Page 4

Autumn cleared her throat as she looked up at him. Avery gave her a smile, causing her to giggle again. She couldn’t do anything but laugh. She was nervous as hell and it was showing. “So, why are you single,” Avery asked as the bartender placed their drinks down on the table.

Autumn kept sipping on her water. She didn’t know how to answer that without seeming like a nerd for not dating. “Never had a boyfriend,” she whispered. Avery looked at her, baffled.

  “Why not?”

“When your mother is a PRN and a single mother raising two kids, I guess I just wanted to please her,” Autumn admitted. “I had guys ask me out, but I turned them down. I felt like they were only after one thing and I had a future to plan for.”

Avery nodded his head. He noticed Autumn wasn’t touching the drink the bartender had placed in front of them. “How old are you?”

Autumn knew that question was bound to be asked. “I’m eighteen. Will that be a problem,” she asked, nervously. She was enjoying his company and hated for him to leave just because of her age.

Avery grabbed her hand and rubbed his thumbs across them. “That depends,” he said. “What kind of tv shows do you watch?”

Autumn grinned. “I’m a fan of Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I also binge watch Living Single and know Friday like the back of my hand.” Avery bust out laughing. “Plus, I know how to cabbage patch and do the running man.”

“Girl, you don’t know how to do the cabbage patch,” Avery exclaimed. “You too young for that.”

Autumn got up out of her seat and started cabbage patching right in front of him. Avery laughed as she hit the infamous dance move with ease. “Ok, ok, you got that. But what about this?” Avery got up from his seat and proceed to do the tootsie roll. Autumn fell over laughing as she mimics him.

“Easy peasy.” They both challenged each other knowledge of 90’s music and dance as they waited for their food to arrive. They have officially broken the ice and was laughing and joking like they were old friends catching up.

After their date, Avery walked Autumn to her car and held the door open for her to get in. “I had a good time tonight,” Autumn said as she sat in her seat. Avery squatted in front of her and placed his hand on her thigh.

“Me, too. Maybe we can get together later on this week and catch a movie or something,” Avery said as he looked into Autumn’s eyes. The way her eyes suddenly shined caused his heart to freeze. Damn she is so fucking beautiful, he said to himself.

“I would like that,” Autumn said as she placed her hand on his shoulder. Avery kissed the inside of her wrist and it sent chills down her spine. “You make sure you get home safe.”

Avery nodded his head as he leaned in closer and kissed Autumn on her forehead. Autumn was thrilled he kissed her but not so hot about where he placed the kiss. She wanted to taste his lips on hers. She wanted him to put out this fire that was coursing throughout her body. “Call me when you get home,” Avery said as he shut her door. Autumn exhaled when she realized she was holding her breath. Damn, Autumn said to herself. She pulled out of the parking lot and blew her horn once when she exited out onto the street.

Avery walked to his truck and was about to hit the unlock button on the car pad when he saw her. Yvonne was sitting on the hood of his car, looking mad. “So, you moved on that fast, huh,” Yvonne asked.

Avery rolled his eyes. “Can you please get off my vehicle and move away from it,” Avery asked in a strict tone. Yvonne did what he said but she still kept her eyes on him.

“I told you I was sorry,” Yvonne whined. “He didn’t mean shit to me. I just want to come home and make it all up to you.” Yvonne let huge crocodile tears fall down her face so Avery can see that she was truly sorry. But he wasn’t a fool. He saw right through her.

“Go back to your basement, Von,” Avery said as he hopped in his truck. “We are over.”

Yvonne gasped. “So, what? You are fucking with that big chick now?” Avery ignored her as he rolled down his windows and connected his phone to the Bluetooth. “Avery!” Avery backed out of the parking lot, leaving Yvonne standing there.

  Chapter 5

Yvonne walked into the house, careful not to disturb Ms. Nancy from her slumber. Since Yvonne had moved in with Mark, his mother has been nonstop throwing shade every chance she could get. It was a great relief to Yvonne that Blessings had moved back out, but Ms. Nancy was a headache all on her own.

Yvonne quietly tiptoed past the couch where Ms. Nancy was sleeping. An old television sitcom was playing on the screen. Yvonne decided the nice thing to do was turn off the tv for the lady. Yvonne walked around the sofa and grabbed the remote off the floor. She was about to hit the off button until Ms. Nancy woke up.

“If you don’t leave it on my Sanford and Son,” Ms. Nancy said with a groggily voice. “I was watching that.”

Yvonne sighed. “Ms. Nancy, you were asleep.”

Ms. Nancy sat up on the sofa and held her hand out. Yvonne placed the remote in her hand and stared at Ms. Nancy. Ms. Nancy rolled her light green eyes in the direction of the television and turned up the volume. “Your other man has been looking for you. I will let you figure out who I’m talking about.”

Yvonne rolled her eyes as she stomped off to the kitchen. She reached the door leading to the basement and paused. Just a few days ago, she was planning a fabulous wedding and living in a five-bedroom house. Now here she was, Yvonne Howard, living in the middle of the hood in a basement. Yvonne sighed as she opened the door and bounded down the steps.

The scent of marijuana quickly invaded her nostrils as she found Mark, laying on the bed, with a bubble-headed girl licking on his shaft. Yvonne rolled her eyes extra hard as she cleared her throat. “Do you have any weed left,” Yvonne asked in a rude tone.

Mark pulled the blunt from his lips and placed it in the air so Yvonne can grab it. Yvonne hopped in the bed, careful not to disturb the young girl at work. She grabbed the blunt from Mark and took a pull from it. “Your mama saw her when she came down here,” Yvonne asked as she took another pull from the blunt again.

Mark scrunched up his face as he tried to keep from moaning like a bitch at the girl’s head game. “No,” he said once he felt comfortable enough speaking. The girl kept on slobbering and moving her head and mouth up and down Mark’s massive dick. Mark had a penis that should be used in porn videos. He was ten inches of pure heaven. Yvonne found herself getting horny as she watched the girl suck Mark’s dick like it was a jolly rancher.

Mark looked at Yvonne and gave her a wink. Yvonne hiked up her dress as she kicked off her high heels. She went by the girl and made her raise her head. She licked the girl lips and then placed her head back down on Mark’s penis. Yvonne reached for her phone to turn the music on and then hit play on the camcorder Mark kept stationed in the corner of the room they shared.

Mark, sensing what Yvonne was trying to do, pulled the girl up off his dick and made her straddle him. She placed both of her hands down on his stomach and she eased herself down on him. She slowly began to ride him as Yvonne came up behind her and started kissing her on her neck. The girl could feel the passion marks arising as she kept her eyes closed. The sensations rising throughout her body was exhilarating.

Yvonne, then moved in front of the girl and went by Mark’s face. She hovered directly over him as he placed his hand on Yvonne’s thighs so she can sit down on his face. Yvonne hissed when she felt his tongue on her clit. She rocked back and forth while the girl continued to ride Mark’s dick.

  The Next Day

AVERY WALKED AROUND the house as his mind kept focusing on Autumn. She was the most innocent young woman he has ever met in his life. She was his bright light to his much-needed disaster he calls a life.

“Day dreaming,” Priest asked as he walked up behind Avery, who was standing in front of the kitchen sink. Avery turned to face Priest.

“Don’t you knock,” Avery asked as he looked at Priest.

  Priest held
out the key that Avery had given him when he first purchased the house. It was supposed to be used for emergencies. “Why knock when I have a key?” Priest laughed as Avery just shook his head. “So, what is the wave for the day?”

Avery moved from the sink to the table. “I’m about to rent out the house.”

Priest looked at Avery as if he had a bug on his face. “For what,” Priest asked. “You built this house. Why would you rent it out to somebody?”

Avery kept his head down. Truth was, he was broken. Seeing Yvonne with Mark and knowing that she fucked him, messed his head up. He built this house for Yvonne. He saw a future with her and made the necessary moves to obtain that future. Now here he was in a big ass house, without the reason for it. “I can’t stay here, man,” Avery solemnly said. “I will lose my mind in this house.”

Priest shook his head. “Find a new bitch. I thought you had gone on a date last night. What happened with Shorty?” Leave it to Priest to change his whole mood just by mentioning Autumn. Autumn was definitely a catch. She was going to school to study to become a doctor. She was definitely a good girl. It was a bonus that she was also a virgin. Nobody could say they touched her spot. She truly was a rare diamond in a rhinestone world.

Avery sat back in his chair. “She is amazing. She kind of felt some kind of way about me buying out the place. She wanted a typical date. You know, movies and dinner.” Avery sighed. He was used to going above and beyond for his woman. But here was Autumn, telling him that simplicity is all that matters to her.

Priest whistled as he looked at his friend. “She really wanted to pay for yall date huh?” Avery nodded. Autumn was a woman of her word. He would have to meet the woman who raised her and ask her how she did it. They don’t make women like Autumn anymore.

“Anyway,” Avery said as he looked at Priest. “Did you and Blessings make up?”

This time it was Priest looking away. They were supposed to have a date night last night as well to talk about everything that has been going on, but Priest had to catch a late-night flight out of New Orleans to Atlantic City. He didn’t even bother texting Blessings. He knew what the outcome would be.

“Nope,” Priest said. “I had to go to Atlantic City. I just got back in this morning.” Avery perked up when Priest mentioned Atlantic City. He knew the reason and didn’t have to ask why. Priest was in a delicate situation and didn’t know how to handle it.

“You just need to tell her, man,” Avery said as he looked at his best friend. Avery known Priest all his life. They were like brothers and knew each other’s secrets. Avery could have easily told Blessings what was going on, but he made a vow to both of them that he would stay out of their relationship. Avery knew too much and didn’t want to be in the middle of it.

“I will lose her, man,” Priest said with a heavy heart. “She gone curse me out for not telling her when I found out and then she gone whup my ass for leaving her hanging last night.” Priest placed his hand over his face. He was in too deep. No matter how much he tried to spin it, Blessings would fucking leave him. There was no denying that.

Avery pulled his phone out of his pocket to see who was calling him. He pressed declined when he saw it was Yvonne. He didn’t want to hear what she had to say last night and damn sure didn’t want to hear it now. He was trying his hardest to move on.

“Yvonne,” Priest asked. Avery nodded his head. “Why don’t you talk to her so you can gain some kind of closure from this?”

Avery laughed. “Closure for what? She just mad she is staying in a basement of my aunt’s house. You know she was waiting for me by my truck when I was on my date with Autumn?”

  “What?”

“Yep. Then had the fucking audacity to ask who Autumn was. She is out of her mind.” Avery looked at his phone again when it rang and hit decline. “I need to get her off my account with iTunes. She using that shit to track me.”

“Damn, she must really miss her old life,” Priest muttered. “So, are you really through with her?” Avery nodded his head. “So, what about this Autumn chick? All you keep saying is that she is different. You are acting like you never went out with a woman before.”

Avery smiled. “She is different. I gave her my number before I even knew about this situation with Mark and Yvonne. You know me and Yvonne been having troubles lately. I just wanted a break.”

“Well, you got your sign that the bitch was no good,” Priest said as he laughed. “Now just make sure she doesn’t turn into a fatal attraction on your ass. I don’t have time to body a bitch because she tried to kill your ass.”

Avery bust out laughing and soon Priest joined in on the laughter. “I’m dead ass. We saw all those crazy movies that Ms. Nancy used to watch on Lifetime. Chicks are crazy.”

“I doubt if Yvonne would ever do something that drastic,” Avery commented. “She just wants me to take her back.”

Priest stood up from the table. “Yea, okay. You are saying that bullshit now. Until you wake up one morning and find yourself tied to the bed and she is about to pull a Misery on your ass.”

BLESSING YAWNED AS Mr. Tucker went over the details of the syllabus. The class had a paper due in less than eight days and she still haven’t picked a subject. Blessings chose Southern University because of it was her mother’s alma mater. But as Blessings got older, she discovered the real reason of why her mother came to the HBCU. The men were corn bread fed and so fucking fine. Already there was chatter about a party at the frat house and Blessings was dying to go. She looked across the classroom and spotted Autumn sitting in the front row, taking notes. Blessings looked back down at her notebook. The page was still blank. She didn’t bother writing anything down because she just was going to wing this assignment anyway.

“Ok, make sure you hold on to your syllabus for the remainder of the semester. It obtains important information regarding due dates of papers and when your midterm and final exam will be held,” Mr. Tucker said as he sat behind the desk. “Class is dismissed.”

The students started getting up from the desks so they can leave out. Blessings quickly grabbed her book bag and walked to the front of the classroom to catch up with Autumn who was now having a conversation with another student.

“Mr. Tucker isn’t so bad,” Autumn said as she grabbed her binder. “He used to teach at my high school.” The guy looked away from Autumn as Blessings walked up on them. Autumn followed his gaze and smiled when she saw Blessings approaching. “Hey girl.”

Blessings flashed her a smile as she got a better look at the guy. He was about 6’1 with smooth light brownish skin. His hair was short and curly, and Blessings could tell he was the kind of man that took care of appearance based on his looks and the name brand clothes he was wearing. “I’m Blessings,” Blessings said as she introduced herself. Blessings held out her hand and the man shook it.

“I’m Chicago, nice to meet you.” Chicago gave Blessings his infamous smile as he turned his attention back to Autumn. “Would you mind tutoring me? I really need to pass this class.”

Autumn smiled as she wrote her number down on a piece of paper and handed it to him. “Sure. Just let me know what time and we can meet at the library.”

“I will be there as well,” Blessings added. She knew when a man was flirting, and Chicago was definitely flirting. Blessings already was team Autumn and Avery, so Chicago needed to step. She didn’t need anybody getting between that. Especially Chicago, fine ass. Chicago said goodbye as he walked out the classroom. The girls followed suit. “So how was your date last night,” Blessings asked Autumn.

Autumn’s face lit up like a Christmas tree as they both walked to the next building where they next class was being held. “He is so sweet. We joked and laughed. He shut down Loft 18 just to have a private date with me.” Autumn held her book closer to her chest. Avery was seemingly everything and more. The stuff he did last night, she only read about in her books. Yes, she hated the fact that they didn’t have a normal date, but she did get to see how rom
antic he could really be.

Blessings laughed as they walked into their next class. Surprisingly, they had the same class schedule, which works great for Blessings. She needed all the help she could get. Her and Autumn took the few seats in front of the class and took out their notebook. “So, when is the next date?” Blessings looked over at Autumn.

“This weekend,” Autumn said. “My mother would be off so she can keep an eye out on my sister.”

“Aw, how old is your sister?”

“Sixteen and bad as hell,” Autumn replied. “She is not to be trusted. She didn’t even bother coming home last night. She walked through that front door at seven this morning. Girl smelled like weed and had passion marks all on her neck.” Autumn shook her head as she remembers how frustrated her mother was when Tori walked through the front door.

Blessings looked down at her desk as she sat. “Damn, sis is wilding out here like that? When I was sixteen, I was inside majority of the time. Mama didn’t play those games.”

Autumn sighed. She loved her sister very much but lately Tori has been making it hard to do even that. Autumn feared her sister was walking down a dangerous path their mother was trying to keep them from. But Tori was stubborn. She didn’t see how her poor decisions affected them as a whole. She had their mother’s hair turning gray from stress. Not to mention, Autumn feared Tori was doing more than just smoking marijuana.

“Almost every kid has a rebellion phase,” Blessings whispered when their teacher walked in. “She would get over it. You’ll see.”

  Chapter 6

Autumn walked to her car as she grabbed her cell phone out of her bag. She smiled when she saw she had a text message from Avery. She quickly replied back and then proceeded to call her mom.
