“Don’t do this, Chanel.”
“You always put me first. If you love me, then you’ll come with me home and leave her,” she said. “I’m leaving around one… Meet me by the exit,” she turned and left out of our section.
I went and sat back down and put my head in my hands. “Chanel not gonna let you be happy, man. You’ve put her first for too long and now that shit is bad,” Ghost said. “You gotta choose which means the most to you; your years long friendship with Chanel or a future with Liberty.”
“Why the fuck I gotta choose? Why can’t I have both?”
“The minute you started fucking your best friend is the moment that you made the decision that you’ll choose between her and any woman you decided to pursue.” Priest replied. Liberty’s phone started ringing in her clutch and I opened it up. “That shit been ringing since you got up to talk with Chanel.”
It was that upstate number calling again. I didn’t hesitate to slide my finger across the screen and answer. “Yo.”
“Hello, is this Ms. McGurry?”
“Nah, this her man… who is this?”
“Um, is she near? It’s kind of urgent.”
“Nah, I can tell her when she gets back,” I replied.
“Well, since I’m finally getting someone on the phone after two weeks, I guess this is my chance. Under normal protocol, I wouldn’t be discussing with this with anyone other than Ms. McGurry, but we’ve been calling for two weeks and haven’t heard anything from her.”
“Ight, what’s up?”
“Chance McGurry has been at our facility for two weeks since his aunt has been in the hospital. Ms. McGurry is listed on her paperwork as his biological mother.”
“Wait, hold on… Facility?”
“Yes, Chance has down syndrome and ACS has placed him with our facility until a guardian comes for her. She wouldn’t do well in a regular foster home.”
“And who is his mother?”
“It says here that Liberty McGurry is his birth mother,” she replied.
“Yo, this sh—”
“Why the fuck are you on my phone? Who told you to answer my damn phone?” Liberty screamed and snatched her phone and ended the call.
“Yo, you got a fucking son and didn’t tell nobody?” I barked. “They been calling you because your aunt been in the hospital and you been ignoring their calls.”
Free’s eyes grew wide while Justice didn’t look shocked at all. It was as if she had known about Liberty’s secret son. “I’m fitting to fucking go!” she hollered and grabbed her purse and stormed out of our section.
“Nah, we gonna fucking talk about this,” I tried to grab her, but she yanked away from me.
It was as if the party was over because everyone was behind me as we left. Ghost was using any excuse to get out of the party because he didn’t want to be there in the first place. Free was following behind her sister with a million questions. When we made it outside, I stood there demanding answers to my questions. She could have told me this shit, but she held that shit in. Who the fuck hides their child? Did she think she was fucking Drake? She wasn’t hiding her child from me, she was hiding me from her child type shit?
“Liberty, what is going on?” Freedom held onto her sister’s arms and demanded the same answers I did.
“Yo, look it’s that nigga right there!” I heard Priest yell as he sprang into action and pulled his nine from his waist. Right there Zoe was hopping out a Phantom and dapping some niggas he knew waiting to get into the party. I watched as his dumb ass was collecting money from them too.
“Aye, son! This is for Summer!” Priest cocked his gun back and let off two into his chest. Even if Zoe wanted to, it was too late for him to grab his gun.
“Priest!” Justice screamed and grabbed him just before he was about to let another bullet out of the chamber. The sprinter pulled up just in time.
The front door of the phantom opened. “Nooooo! My Zoeeeee! My baby’s daddy!” we all heard a familiar voice scream and it was Kiss. She was rushing as fast as her legs could take her over to Zoe’s body sprawled on the floor with blood spilling from his body. She stood there and we watched as water poured from between her legs.
“Kiss?” Priest barked.
“Zotavious!” Myla screamed as she ran over there. “Baby!” she continued to scream as she ran over to him.
