  Colby Jr.

“Jaquan, I’m not doing this with you today.” I heard and turned around.

I was at the local library tryna find some information from the past and they’re the only ones who had newspapers going back that far. You could find a lotta shit in here even some of the hackers can’t. Well when it comes to deaths and certain newspaper clippings anyway.

Some dude I knew from the streets was following this geeky looking girl around. His brother is my best friend. I didn’t know he had a girl because he was always fucking random chicks.

I’m guessing she worked here from the badge hanging around her neck. It could be from somewhere else, but people were approaching her at the desk she went back to.

Actually, geeky is probably not the right word. This chick had on loose fitting khaki pants, a long black sweater with another shirt wrapped around her waist. She had some expensive looking glasses on, no earrings and her hair was in a bun on top of her head.

I looked down at her feet and she had on a pair of black vans. I’m not saying you need to dress up to work in a library but damn. She’s dressed like an old ass woman.

“Brielle, I said I’m sorry damn. How many times you want me to apologize?” You could tell she was embarrassed because his voice rose.

“Jaquan can we talk when I get off?” She kept tryna get away from him.

“HELL NO! Fuck these people.” I swear every head turned to him.

“Excuse me.” She smiled at the person in front of her and walked to the back. I shook my head because he was ignorant as hell. Why he bringing this to her job? I sat there scrolling through the paper when someone yelled.

“Did you just push her?” Some woman stood there with her arms folded.

“What I do with my woman, is my business. Back the fuck up yo.” I sucked my teeth because all these men in here and no one stepped up. I rose outta my seat, checked my waist for my piece in case I needed it and walked to where they were.

“Somebody call the cops.” I was surprised the woman didn’t back down.

“Bitch keep it moving before I put a hot one in yo ass.” The girl Brielle was against the wall shaking her head. Her glasses were crooked and the sweater was bunched up around her neck. Did he hit her?

I really didn’t wanna deal with this, but my mother would kill me if I allowed a man to hurt a woman in my presence; especially, after what went down with my sister.

I still get mad thinking about Armonie letting Freddy beat on her for so long. I don’t care how deep and hard a nigga loves a chick; if you feel the need to put hands on her, then y’all need to break up.

“Ja, what you doing man?” He turned to me.

“What up Colby? I’m talking to my bitch and everybody got something to say.” He stared back at the other woman who had her hands folded across her chest.

“I’m saying, take this somewhere else.” He stared at me for a minute and then his girl.

“I’ll be over when you get off and you better fucking be there.” The chick jumped. He stormed off and bumped the lady standing there. He knew not to fuck with me.

“You ok?” I asked and put my hand out for her to grab.

“Yes. Thank you.” She fixed her glasses, then her clothes before running in the back.

“He comes in here at least once a week apologizing for some fuck shit he did.” The girl rolled her neck.

“Who are you?” I gave her the once over and she wasn’t bad on the eyes.

Decent looking, fitted clothes with a nice body. Her hair and nails were done, and you can tell she had money or dealt with a man who did, because she had Balenciaga everything. I’m not saying she can’t afford it, but don’t no jobs pay good money for people to afford those. They either gotta be knockoffs or like I said, somebody had money.

“It doesn’t matter who I am Colby. Thanks for helping her.” She started grabbing her things.

“How the hell you know me and I can’t get a name outta you?”

“Everyone knows Colby Banks and his crazy ass family.” I had to laugh because it’s exactly how the streets described us.

“Anyway, I have to come here every day after class because he does this stupid shit.” She complained.

“Why she dealing with him?” I asked and looked to see if she were coming back out.

  “Who knows? Love, I guess.”

“Love ain’t gonna make a man put hands on his woman.” I said and she agreed.

“Try telling her that.” The chick emerged from the back wiping her eyes.

“Thank you and I’ll see you later Harlow.”

“Harlow? No wonder you didn’t wanna say your name.” I joked.

“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes and walked out.

“Hold up. Your friend not gonna wait for you?” I asked the Brielle chick.

“No. She comes to make sure he doesn’t put his hands on me and after he leaves, he won’t return; today anyway.”

“You telling me this the first time?” I followed her to the desk. People were asking if she were ok on the way.

“Actually, it is.” I gave her a yea right look

“It is. He usually just curses me out or makes the things he did my fault. You know how men do.”

“Not really. A man, or should I say a real man, will fess up to his mistakes and take the consequences. If the woman decides to stay with him, then he’ll allow her to make the choice.” She stopped staring at the computer and focused her attention on me. It made me feel uneasy.

“Who are you? Have we met before?”

“I’m Colby and nah. We never met.”

“I’ve seen you before. Were you at my cousin Antoine’s wedding?”

“Yea.” That was pretty fucked up what his ex did. I would’ve probably tried to kill my ex if she ruined my girl’s day too.

“Ok. I vaguely remember you. Armonie is your sister.” Why don’t I remember who she is?

“Yup.” She stared again and this time looked me up and down.

“You can’t see my dick in these jeans but it ain’t no thing to show you.” She gasped as if I offended her.

“What? Your eyes were stuck so...” I shrugged my shoulders.

“I have a man and I’m sure you have a woman. This conversation is over.” She turned around and I grabbed her wrist.

“I’m partially attached to a chick but we’ve been over for a while.” I was telling the truth about Jacinta. After she burnt me, I haven’t touched her.

“Then why stick around?” She removed my hand from her wrist.

“The bitch claims to be pregnant and my parents would kill me if I left her during the pregnancy.

“Oh. Well the whole ordeal is hard and it’s good you’re sticking around for your child.”

“Correction. I don’t know if it’s my kid; therefore, I have to wait until she delivers.” Jacinta refused to take the paternity test while the baby still in her stomach. I know its because she knew it would keep me around longer. At least until we found out the truth of who fathered the child.

“If she’s your girl, why would you assume different?”

“Are you from the streets because you’re asking a lotta questions as if you don’t know how scandalous women are.”

“For your information, I’m not from the streets per say and why do women place a child on a man if they’re unsure?”

  “You have no idea ma.”

  “Obviously.” She rolled her eyes

“I gotta go.” I told her.

“Wait!” I heard her shout and turned around

“What up?” I couldn’t help but notice how shy she became under my stare. Her face began to turn red and she opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

“You a’ight?” I asked because she looked crazy.

“Ummm yes. I’m sorry. You can go.” She rushed away from the desk and turned around three times to look at me. She better watch out because my ass will turn her the fuck out. I printed out the stuff I needed, packed up
and left.

“Colby you really doing this?” Jacinta held my phone in her hand as I stepped out the shower.

“Doing what?” I wrapped the towel around my waist.

“Fucking other bitches while I’m laid up pregnant with your baby?”

“Yup.” I said in a non chalant way. Neither of us knew who the father was so she can keep playing this dumb roll of it positively being mine.

BOOM! I heard my phone crash against the wall and continued putting my clothes on. This is what she does when things don’t go her way. Funny thing is, I had an outter box so it didn’t break.

“You’re not gonna try and work this out?”

“Nah. Any working out should’ve been done before you slept with that nigga.” She put her head down.

“You know I didn’t even care you dipped out because I’ve cheated countless times and you stayed, but you fucked my boy, the nigga who I had on payroll, the one I took under my wing when he had nothing.” I felt myself getting angry.

  “I’m sorry Colby.”

“I know I’ve hurt you by doing fucked up shit but you hit below the belt and I can never forgive you.”

“But...” I know she wanted to bring up my cheating but I’m over it.

“But nothing. I never slept with your friends, family members or co-workers even though they all tried on more than one occasion. You didn’t care and now look; we don’t even know whose baby you’re carrying.” The tears started falling.

“If it his kid, the baby will grow up without a father all because of your stupidity.”

“Jacinta if you had left me for all the wrong I did to you, I still would’ve made sure you were straight. Unfortunately; you let the nigga whisper good shit in your ear and fell for it.” I slid my leg inside the jeans and stared at her.

I can say it a hundred times; I cheated a lot and regardless of the reason she stayed, it didn’t mean go out and do the same. The only reason I found out is because of Ciara. I would’ve known eventually because Jacinta ended up burning me.

Jacinta finally broke down and told everything. Hell yea I was hurt but deserved it. However, sleeping with someone close is where I draw the line.

“Now like I told you before, don’t bring your ass over here tearing my shit up because you mad.” I gripped her by the arm and walked her to the door and outside. I was done and on my way out and so was she.

“Why don’t I just get rid of the baby, so you don’t have to worry about it?” I ignored her and went to my car.

“I suggest you leave because if you do anything to this house, I’m gonna send Armonie after you.” She rolled her eyes. I told VJ I wouldn’t let my sister fight anymore but I don’t hit girls.

I watched her leave and drove to CVS to pick up some condoms. I’m sure after this party, I’m gonna wanna fuck. Bitches have no decency about themselves when tryna catch a baller. They ain’t getting shit from me but dick.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” I spoke to the chick from the library.

I had to take a double look because she had on some leggings showing off her thick thighs and plump ass. The tank top over the sports bra didn’t cover much. Her breasts were big and juicy. She looked good as fuck in her gym clothes.

“Hello Colby.” I licked my lips when she smiled.

  “You look different from earlier.”

“I just came from the gym. I had to pick up cough drops.”

“Oh you sick?” I walked around her.

“I think a cold is coming and what are you doing?” She folded her arms.

“Admiring your sexy ass body. Why you cover up at work like an old woman?” She got offended.

“For reasons like this. When men stare, it makes me uncomfortable and I feel like they’re trying to find a flaw.”

“Not that you have any from what I see but fuck them. Don’t let their thoughts keep you from wearing nice things.”

“Ummm. Ok. Well it’s nice seeing you Colby.” She walked off and her ass jiggled in those pants. Oh yea, I’m hitting that.

  Jacinta

“You have gonorrhea and the other blood tests should return within a week or so.” The doctor told me. Tears flooded my eyes because I know I’m the one who gave it to him.

“Also, you’re two months pregnant.” Disgust was written on Colby’s face. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look at me like this.

“Can we do the test in her stomach to see if that’s my child?” He questioned the doctor.

  “Yes we...”

“Absolutely not. I’m not risking my child’s life. He has to wait.” Colby wanted to fight my response but decided against it.

The only reason I said no is because I wanted to be with him. I prayed he’d move past my cheating and we could work things out. Instead, he told me off, stormed out the doctor’s office and I didn’t see him for weeks.

His mom did contact me and ask if I needed anything. She also said don’t hesitate to call. I loved his mother. She was always nice and actually told me to leave her son quite a few times. But being in love, I stayed.

Yes, he cheated in the three years we’ve been together, but he’d never brought me home a disease or a child. Here I go and sleep with someone else, and the first person I choose, gives me something. I don’t know what I was thinking allowing him to enter me raw. The thrill of being with another man was fun in the beginning but once Colby came home accusing me of burning him, I almost died from embarrassment and getting caught.

He said his dick was hurting when he went to the bathroom and thought it was a bladder infection. He went to the doctors and they ran all types of tests in which one returned, revealing he had an STD. The hurt on his face would be etched in my mind forever. I didn’t care so much about cheating because he did it. I think he was more upset knowing I did it with someone he considered a friend.

I’m five months now and sadly I’ve been following him as much as I could. I show up at his house when I feel like it because he never changed the locks and probably won’t. I don’t doubt he loves me, and I know he’ll move on but he’s gonna have a hard time doing so; especially if this is his baby.

“How’s my grand baby doing?” My abuela asked when I stopped by.

“Good. We’re hungry. Did you cook?” She smiled and pointed to the chair in the kitchen.

  “How’s Colby?” She asked.

“I just left him and he’s on his way out to be a ho.” I spat.

“Don’t you dare bad talk him.” My abuela banged her hand on the counter.

“You gave him a disease and think he’s supposed to stick around?”

“He cheated on me hundreds of times.” I argued.

“And you stayed. Now whether you felt revenge was right, your ass let that other boy have sex with you and didn’t bother wearing a condom. What were you thinking?” She took a seat across from me.

“I’m not saying Colby cheating was right. Shit, it was disrespectful, but you let it go on and stuck around.”

“I know.” I put my head down.

“But he loved you Jacinta and I truly believe if you didn’t give him a disease and it wasn’t his friend, he would’ve forgiven you. It’s one thing to return the favor but it’s another to do it so close to home.” She wiped the one tear falling down my face.

“Leave that man alone and move on with your life. You have a child on the way and you’re gonna need all the rest you can get.” She stood and started making my plate.

“Hey loser.” My younger sister gallivanted in the kitchen. She was two years younger than me and always talking shit.

  “Whatever.”

“Sooooo, I called the Maury show and they’re willing to have you and Colby on.” She laughed as if it were a joke about me not knowing who the father is.

  “What you say?”

“You heard. All you have to do is call them back and...” Callie stop it. My abuela shouted.

  “Why? It’s not my faul
t she doesn’t know who her baby daddy is and Maury specializes in these issues.” She was hysterical laughing.

  “Fuck You.”

“Fuck me. Oh no my dear sister. I’ve done too many things for you to say fuck me.” She smirked.

“What is she talking about?” My grandmother questioned.

  “Nothing.” I said.

“Abuela, Jacinta never told you how she’s the one who sent the women in Colby’s direction to see if he’d sleep with them?” My grandmother shook her head.

“Yea she thought their love was strong enough but like most men, temptation got the best of him.”

  “Shut up.”

“Oh yea. Remember the time you asked if I would try?” She smirked telling my grandmother.

  “Jacinta no.” My abuela shouted.

“SHUT UP Callie!” I pounded my fist on the table.

“No need to get upset. It’s in the past but you better watch out because women are flocking to him, like bees to honey.” She looked me up and down.

  “Even your so-called friends.”

  “Yea right.” She laughed.

“No need to believe me.” Callie went to leave and turned around.

“Oh yea. I heard Marco’s sister Brielle, was being roughed up by Jaquan in the library and guess who stepped in?”

  “Who?” My abuela asked.

“Good old Colby. You know he don’t play that shit; especially, after what went down with his sister.”

“Who cares? He won’t let any woman be hit by a man.”

“That’s what I said when someone told me, until they said he continued speaking to her and both of them appeared to smitten by each other. Hmmmm.” She put her finger under her chin.

“I wonder if she’ll be the one to take your place.”

“Yea right. The bitch is corny, can’t fuck from what her man is telling everyone and spends more time at the library than anywhere else.” My sister laughed.

  “Jealous much?”

“Jealous of what? The bitch don’t have shit on me. Why would I be jealous?” I barked.

“The second you stared hating on that woman, you showed your jealousy.” She said.
