Deception

Ever since I was little, I knew there was something about her. The strange name, Deception, how she could never stay around that long, but this was different. One girl I knew, Bianca, went to see where she went off to...but never came back. Now in the fourth grade... I'm ruminating, who is Deception? Whoever gave her that name gave it to her for a reason. No matter what she does, she tricks people! Everyone...

The next day, I pick up a key. Golden like sun rays. What is it? I couldn't help thinking what it unlocked. I put it in my pocket and move on, but there was a branch on the ground and I trip and fall over a tree. THUD! The rough tree bark scratches my hand. I get myself up off the abnormally hard tree. I notice my hand on a hole, in the shape of the key. I do the obvious, I try to fit the key in the hole, and it fits! But doesn't turn. I guess it was just coincidence and walk away. . . But then something catches my eye. . . The tree trunk split in two. Open.

I walk inside the tree trunk. It seems like forever until I get there. Inside, an unusual room. The walls were all yellow from tree sap, and the floor hard and wooden. I felt like if I touched the walls, I would stick there forever. It seemed like the trees were talking. Whispering, "Deception. Deception. Deception." Over and over. "Be deceived." And laughter. The room was bigger than it looked on the outside. Outside looked like maybe just one person could fit in it. Inside, it looked like you could fit almost a million people. I see two creatures. One seems to glance at me, but doesn't react. Just looked back, and got a little smile. I guess she didn't see me. Did she? Both look somewhat lizard like, but with some human features. Ears, hair, feet, and nose. Blonde and brown hair. One bigger than the other. They're talking. "How much longer do I have to keep this up?!" The smaller one says. An angry expression was on her face. It looked as if it was about to hit the bigger one or just storm out of the room. "Until I say!" The bigger one replies. Stepping forward, acting bigger and better than the smaller one. "Believe me Deception, when it's time, you'll be glad you do this." I stumble backwards. Touching the yellow tree sap wall. "Deception?" I say to myself. Not quiet enough, both heads spin around and stare at me! Their green and grey eyes seem like they were smacking me across the face. The smaller one's eyes are changing colors. To a lighter blue. Her face gets. . .less angry for some reason. "KILEY!" It yells turning into it's human form. . .Deception. My eyes widen not knowing what to think. "NOT AGAIN!" The bigger one yells with the same demeanor. "Deception! You know what to do. . ." It's voice had somewhat an evil chuckle to it as it backs into a dark corner of the room. That's where the laughing was coming from when I first entered. The trees still talking to me, "Run. Run. Run." They said. "Don't end up like her." Referring to Bianca. I get scared and try to run away, but my arm was stuck to the wall. The tree sap is pretty sticky. I turn around and Deception is standing there. Less than a foot away. "Hello Kiley." She said with a smirk, pulling out a bottle and pours it all over my arm, getting me freed of the sap. I didn't know why she helped me at first. I started running. "She'll get you. She'll get you. She'll get you." The trees told me. I look back with Deception just standing there. I turn back forward and she's directly in front of me. "Does it always have to be difficult?" She says acting kind. Of course acting. . . Deception plunges toward me.

I don't remember anything that happened after that. All I remember is waking up in a big cell. The cell was grey and hard and cold. The bars were made up of coal. I touch them. They feel like they could fall apart easily, but when I kick them, all I get back is a stubbed toe. "Don't waste your strength." Said a voice. I look up and see a girl sitting in the corner. Red hair and green eyes. She wore an old school uniform, grey and green, but looked a size to small. Bianca. The girl who followed Deception but never returned. "B-Bianca?" I stuttered. I was still to shocked to know what was going on. Bianca. The girl that followed Deception. The only two humans that knew of the lizard creatures. "What...where am I?" I said not knowing what was happening. I rub my head, as if it would trigger a memory. Of course it doesn't. "I know how you feel." Bianca answered getting up on two feet walking towards me. Her arms thin, like she hadn't been getting exercise. "They're called Limizodes." I was still to confused. I walk around the cold, damp cell, feeling the walls, the scratches. "How did you stay alive all these years?" I asked curiously. Bianca looks down at her hands, fiddling with her thumbs. She finally looks back up at me, with a depressed face. Also somewhat angry, strait. "I-I--" she stuttered. "I. . . can't tell you. . ." I was so confused. I could see she knew. Her face brightened up. "I'll tell you what. I can't tell you but I'll help you. As long as you don't watch me." This was strange, but my only way of surviving. I sit down on the hard cell floor.. Running my fingers through my brown hair. Trying to make myself look decent, not that there was anything worth looking decent. "So. . ." I say. "How did you wind up here?" I already knew basically what happened, I just wanted to hear her side of the story. Bianca sits down with me. "Well you remember." She said looking down. "I said I was going to follow Deception. I saw her turn into a Limizode. I turned around to try to tell everyone back at school but she heard me running. I looked back and there were TWO Limizodes following me. A bigger one and a smaller one. The smaller one got in front of me and said, "Bianca! Where are you in such a hurry to go?" then I said "Oh uh-uh-no where! I'm. . . just going to my house! I forgot my Binder!" Then Deception says, "Oh is that so? Maybe you'd like to stay for a little? Maybe have some tea?" I knew what she was trying to do. She was trying to deceive me, and I said "No thanks. I have to get my um binder now." But then the bigger one said "Deception! You know what to do. . ." and then backed into the tree, where no one could see her. The next thing I know I'm in here." Then there was silence. Silence. It felt like I was alone. Just sitting there feeling this strange feeling. "We should get some sleep. It's getting late." Bianca said, breaking the silence. Thankfully, Silence is the last thing I want. "How do you know? There's no clock in-" I stop, seeing the sun dial she had set up in the far corner of the cell next to a small window. "Oh. Ok." I say lying down. It felt hard and sad. Like I could just lay there and stay there forever. The ground was talking to me, saying "Deception. Deception. Everyone and everything deceives. Deceives. Deceives. Deceives you."

I wake up and I have a red pillow and soft, green blanket and there's a bowl of cereal next to me. "What how did this all get here?" I asked with a mouthful of Lucky Charms. "Oh! That? I got it." Bianca smiled. There was obviously something hidden under that smile. I couldn't understand it, at least not yet. "But. . .how?" I was so curious. I mean, we're in a locked cell with nothing but a window, how in the world could you get out? (And get cereal, pillows and blankets nonetheless.) Ever since I got here things have been vague. Dark. Like There wasn't anything I could see. Anything I could do. I was blind. I wasn't even sure if anyone missed me back at school or home. Why would they? It isn't like I had so many friends that would be worried if I was gone. Probably thinking I was out sick or made up some rumor that I had moved. Bianca interrupts my daydreaming  "Remember? I can't tell you. All I can do is help you. But you can't watch me."  "Oh yeah. . ." I said. I walked around the cell again. Looking around, getting to know my new home for the next year probably. Today, yesterday, all so strange. The last few days have been just like an egg. Destined to hatch into a bird. Maybe I was destined to this. I don't know what happens next, all I know is that I'm ready. I'm ready to face whatever comes at me. "So you got out? Why are you in here if you can get out to get stuff?" Silence. More silence. I guess it was like 'watching' her and I couldn't ask. I found things scratched into the walls of the cell. Feeling it, I read it aloud,"Maracadomishalo". Like everything else that's going on, it made no sense. Like gibberish. My whole life is gibberish. "What does this mean do you know?" I ask Bia
nca. She stared. Like she'd just been caught. "THAT'S NOTHING!" she yelled and ran in front of it. A bead of sweat ran down from her red eye brow. Her green eyes pleading, "Please don't ask anymore questions. . ." She was for sure hiding something from me. But what? And why? It isn't like I could tell anyone anything from inside this deathtrap waiting to happen. This was weird too. I pretended nothing happened, like she wanted me to, and just wandered around more. Getting weary of not knowing about anything that was going on, I sat down. Kicking my legs, looking at Bianca, who was still standing in front of the writing on the walls. Looking relieved. She saw me looking at her and slammed down to the floor. Acting innocent, smiling. I get tired so lay against the wall, hoping for something to shed some light into my head. There it was. The one thing that could possibly explain how-or should I say why this is going on. . .

"Kiley? Kiley get up! Are you there? KILEY!" I heard a voice. I rub my eyes, clearing my vision. There before me
