He drove Lucas to the floor, his dragon form no match for the anger and rage inside him. His long teeth tore at his scaly skin, digging in deep, making scarlet rivulets of blood trickle down his neck. But Lucas threw him off, stood shakily, then turned to April and collapsed at her feet.
April screamed and fell on Lucas, then looked up at Taylor, who was hovering above them, ready to strike. But before he could, she said a spell and they disappeared, leaving only a red stain on the floor, which started to smoke, then disappeared.
Taylor floated back to the floor, and with the last of his strength shifted back to his human form, then collapsed. Just then, Daniel and Natasha came running into the room, Max right behind them.
“What happened?” Daniel demanded, running to Taylor, who was trying to get up and go to Willow, who still hadn’t moved.
“Lucas was here,” Taylor said. “I need to get to Willow; she’s hurt.”
Daniel helped him over to Willow, and he sank on the floor next to her, then gathered her into his arms. “Willow, don’t die; I need you. I need our child,” he sobbed on her chest. “Don’t let fate win; stay with me.”
He felt her stir and hope sprang to life in his chest. “Willow, come back to me. Don’t go away again; stay with me this time.”
She opened her eyes, gave him a weak smile. “I think fate is going to leave us alone this time,” she said.
Taylor laid his head down on her chest and sobbed for a second, unable to stop himself. But his sobs eased as the intense pain in his heart began to subside, the reality of Willow alive and warm in his arms setting in. He sat up and stroked her face with his fingers, thanking the universe for the woman he’d been given.
“I think I understand why you were so afraid to love me; when I thought you were gone, my heart was broken into a million pieces,” he said. “Why did you jump in front of me? You could have died, and our child with you.”
“I had to. It was the only way to save you. My spirits were there, Taylor, and they told me I’d be okay, and the little one too,” she said, reaching up to wipe the tears from his face. “I did it because I love you. I’ve loved you since the beginning of time, and I’ll love you until the end of time.”
Taylor felt the tears streaming down his cheeks again but didn’t care; these were tears of joy. “I love you too, Willow, and prophecy or not, I want to spend the rest of my life loving you, and the next one, and the one after that.”
Willow laughed. “I guess it’s settled then,” she said, then pulled his head down and kissed him.
