“They did.” Henry hadn’t taken his hand from her face.
“But they weren’t just talking about him, were they?” she almost whispered that.
“That’s right,” Henry said quietly. “They weren’t.”
Then he put his other hand on her other cheek, and leaned in. His gaze met hers for the briefest of moments, asking permission. She gave the smallest of nods.
And his lips met hers.
Fireworks, tingles, all of those romantic expressions—they were such understatements. This kiss felt right. It felt like it had been long overdue, and it seemed like it could last forever.
She twined her arms around his neck and pulled him closer.
Maybe she wouldn’t have to wait for that happily ever after. Maybe she had already done the work.
Maybe he had too.
She hoped so, because she was ready to step into the next phase of her life.
A phase she could share with Henry.
Because she had missed him.
Because their hearts had known each other forever.
