Be Mine Tonight (Line of Duty Book 2) Page 5

  “You’re beautiful.”

He quickly moved again, gripping her hips with his muscular hands and pulling her up onto all fours. She felt vulnerable in this position and also incredibly aroused as she felt him behind her. She heard the ripping of foil, and a moment later the tip of his erection was pressing against her tender folds. He was so hard as he prodded against her, sliding through her moist heat, that she was suddenly desperate to feel him inside of her, pushing her over the edge once more.

“I’m going to make this so good for you, baby,” Colton said, his voice deep with arousal as he lined himself up and slowly slid into her.

His thick length gradually filled her, inch by painstaking inch, stretching her completely. She gasped at the intimate invasion—at Colton making her his once more. His large body curled over hers, and he supported himself on one arm as his other hand cupped her breasts. She moaned as he held her there, waiting, until slowly he began thrusting, teasing and tormenting her nipples with able fingers as he filled her again and again.

Her arousal slickened the way as Colton expertly sought her release. He seemed to know exactly how to pleasure her body, how to drive her up higher and higher every time they made love. He shifted his hand to her throbbing clit, and he pressed his fingers against her as he thrust from behind. She dropped to her elbows, gasping, inadvertently pushing her hips even higher to meet him. “I’m going to be thinking about this all week, sweetheart. You feel so fucking good.”

His fingers circled her aching bundle of nerves, unrelenting, and he thrust into her from behind until she cried out, helpless to the onslaught of pleasure overcoming her. Her inner walls clamped down around him, and she fisted the sheets, crying out again as her orgasm went on and on.

Colton bucked into her once more then stilled, conquering her flushed body, and releasing himself deep inside her still pulsing core. He let out a grunt that sounded like half victory cry, half surrender, as he caught himself on both arms, hovering over her body, still buried balls deep inside of her.

He kissed her shoulder again, softly, somehow at odds with the way he’d taken her.

Maybe she’d conquered him, too—she’d somehow tamed the aggressive and assertive side of Colton, rendering him speechless here in her bed.

  ***

“You look good enough to eat,” Colton teased an hour later after they’d showered together and stood in the kitchen.

She flushed as she turned toward him, her damp hair swinging behind her. She’d put on a bralette and boy shorts, paired with a thin tank top. Colton had pulled on his boxers and jeans but was standing in the kitchen shirtless.

And damn he was a sight to behold.

Her cheeks pinkened even more as she recalled the many ways he’d tasted her over the past twelve hours. Nope, she wasn’t thinking at all about his tongue sliding over her skin, or his head dipping down between her legs as she screamed and bucked against him.

“I’d love to know what you’re thinking about,” he said in a low voice.

“Nuh-uh,” she joked. “There’s no time for that. We need food.”

“Yeah, I have worked up an appetite,” he said wickedly, stalking toward her. She shrieked in surprise as he lifted her onto the counter and stepped between her legs, ducking down for a searing kiss. “I could eat you—”

“Colton, you’re going to be the death of me.”

“And I did promise to make you pancakes,” he said regretfully, stealing one last kiss before stepping away.

“You’re really making me pancakes?” Morgan asked doubtfully as she hopped down from the counter.

  “Hell yeah, I am.”

She shrugged, looking around the sparse kitchen. “I hate to break it to you, but I doubt Jake has any pancake mix. And I didn’t buy any baking staples when I moved in, because I’m hoping not to be here too long.”

“All right, fair enough. I can make do. Eggs? Bacon?”

“We should have those in the fridge,” she conceded.

“And please tell me you have coffee,” Colton said, turning to wink at her before opening the refrigerator. “Someone kept me up all night.”

“We have coffee,” she said lightly, crossing the kitchen toward the pantry. Goodness. She’d never be able to have breakfast here with Colton again—ever. Jake would lose his ever-loving mind. And that was assuming Colton was okay with it, which he of course wouldn’t be. She sighed, pulling open the pantry door.

  “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she said quickly. “And I found the coffee.”

“Fantastic.” He scanned the kitchen and grabbed a frying pan that was hanging from beneath the cupboards. “Huh,” he said as he set it on the stove.

  “What?”

“I never thought I’d be making breakfast for a woman at Jake’s house.” He chuckled, lighting the burner and then grabbing some plates from the cupboard.

“There’s a first time for everything I suppose.”

“Well hopefully it’s not the last time,” he said with a wink. “Although I may have to take you back to my place. I don’t think I want Jake seeing you half naked.”

“Definitely not,” she agreed, resisting the urge to shudder.

She certainly wouldn’t have a man over here again with her brother around. It’s not like she’d planned on Colton. And she sure as heck never pranced around in her underwear.

She fumbled with the coffee maker, glad he couldn’t see her face as she grabbed two coffee mugs. Guilt was starting to seep through her at not revealing that she was Jake’s sister. It’s not like he’d come out and asked—she’d just omitted that significant piece of information.

And then spent the night with Colton.

They’d had an amazing night—too good, actually. It’s not like she could keep seeing him—not really. Maybe she could spend the night at his place sometime, but then she’d have to disappear. Ghost him or something. Morgan didn’t like the idea of blowing him off, but continuing to see him would only lead to trouble.

And if she admitted it to herself, she’d half expected him to sneak out last night after they’d made love. When they’d gotten out of bed at midnight, she’d kind of thought that he’d grab a drink and be on his way. She certainly didn’t think that he’d take her back to her bedroom, make love to her again, and then hold her in his arms all night.

She was in so much trouble.

She liked Colton, and even if nothing could come of this, she couldn’t just blow him off. Then again, maybe she was jumping ahead of herself. They were standing in the kitchen, fresh off an amazing night. He’d go back to work and his life; she’d go back to teaching.

Just because he said he wanted her in his bed didn’t mean it would actually happen. He’d meet another woman somewhere; she’d end up dating a boring teacher or something. A guy more her own speed.

The scent of bacon frying on the stove had her turning back toward him, and her stomach rumbled. She flushed as Colton chuckled. “I’m starving, too,” he said.

“Well someone didn’t let me get much sleep,” she joked. “I must have worked up an appetite.”

“Don’t get me started, sweetheart,” he said with a wink. “I’ll whisk you back to bed so fast, you’ll be shouting out my name so loud the neighbors will hear.”

Her cheeks pinkened, and Colton grinned wider. “Teasing you is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do,” he said, a wicked gleam in his eye. “I sure as hell didn’t mind teasing you all night long, Morgan.”

“Colton!” she protested, turning away in embarrassment. It was one thing to cry out his name in the heat of the moment, under the darkness of night. It was quite another to stand here in the kitchen and let him remind her of the fact he’d relentlessly driven her wild last night.

Colton was indeed a very thorough lover—she’d come so many times she could barely see straight. A guy like that had to be used to bedding lots of women though. He’d probably get bored of her and move on.

&
nbsp; The small niggle of worry in the back of her mind was something she didn’t want to consider.

Of course he’d move on. This was exactly why she didn’t sleep with men she’d just met—she’d get attached and then end up getting burned in the end.

Colton cracked some eggs and began frying them in the pan beside the bacon. “So, listen,” he said, meeting her gaze “I’ve got to meet up with a buddy later on, otherwise I’d be dragging you back to my place right now.” He winked as she stammered a reply. “And tomorrow I’ve got to work. But can I call you this week? I’d love to take you out to dinner, say next weekend? Don’t worry, something fancier than the diner this time.”

“Oh, uh, maybe,” Morgan said, taken aback. “I mean, I just need to check my schedule. I think I’m free.”

“We can stay at my place, unless Jake will be gone again. I want you all to myself, sweetheart.”

“I think he’ll be here,” she said weakly.

Colton didn’t seem to notice as he began plating their food. “My place it is then. I’ll make you pancakes the next morning—I have to admit, I’m dying to drizzle syrup all over that gorgeous body of yours and then slowly lick it off.”

His voice grew husky, and her body began to heat just thinking about it. She shouldn’t go out with him though—and she definitely shouldn’t stay the night.

“I’m moving fast, I know,” he said. “If you want, I’ll have my buddies down at the precinct vouch for me. I mean, hell, you know Jake, ask him yourself.”

“No, no, that’s not necessary. Why don’t, uh, why don’t you just give me a call? Or text me. We’ll figure out a time….”

“Does that mean you’ll give me your number?”

“Yeah, of course,” Morgan replied, relaxing a little.

  “Awesome.”

Morgan carried two steaming mugs of coffee over to the kitchen table, feeling oddly comfortable as she sat down at the table with Colton. Shouldn’t he have rushed out the door this morning? She certainly didn’t expect a man she didn’t know to make her breakfast.

The began eating in comfortable silence, and Morgan had the strangest sense of déjà vu. Like she’d done this all before. It just felt…right sitting here with him.

And oh so wrong, she reminded herself.

That was her own fault for not telling him who she was.

They finished eating, and Colton carried their plates to the sink. She saw his intentions as soon as he turned around, and then he was whisking her up into his arms, carrying her down the hallway toward her bedroom again as she shrieked with laughter.

  Chapter 8

“So what’s going on?” Lily asked Morgan later that night as the two girls met over drinks at one of their favorite bars in Midtown. “Why the urgent 911 text?”

“Oh, Lily,” Morgan groaned. “I did the worst thing. No, scratch that, it was simultaneously the best and the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.”

“Umm-hmm, continue,” Lily said, taking a sip of her Cosmopolitan. She looked flawless as usual tonight, her long blonde hair falling in perfect waves past her shoulders, the mint green off-the-shoulder sweater that she was wearing looking both sexy and classic at the same time.

She crossed her denim-clad legs, perching on the edge of her barstool as she leaned closer to hear Morgan over the music pounding through the speakers. The place was packed as usual for a weekend night, with plenty of New Yorkers enjoying a few drinks and flirtations. A crowded dance floor was off to one side, and Morgan briefly looked over there, imagining herself dancing with Colton. Impossible, because she was never going to see him again.

Lily had actually met her boyfriend Brock here over the summer. Sparks had flown, and despite a bit of a rocky start, the two were now inseparable, with Lily living with Brock in his Brooklyn apartment. She’d abandoned her own Upper East Side place to start law school and be with him. Her parents had been none too happy about it—both with her choice to go back to school when she already had a huge trust-fund and with the choice of her man—but Morgan was happy to see her best friend getting what she deserved.

How ironic that Colton worked with Lily’s boyfriend.

Of course she couldn’t have just met a random guy somewhere that didn’t have all sorts of ties to her.

Lily was waiting for her to answer, so Morgan glanced back at her friend. “All right, so as you can imagine, it involves a man.”

  “Of course.”

  “A really, really, hot man.”

“Naturally,” Lily said, gesturing for Morgan to go on.

  “And we slept together.”

“Last night?” Lily asked, raising her eyebrows curiously.

“Yes. And yes, it was very good, to answer your other question.”

Lily laughed. “So what’s the problem? Does he have a girlfriend or something? Oh, God, did he get up and run out the door like Brock did when we first met? I’ll go hunt him down myself, that bastard.”

“No, nothing like that,” Morgan said with a sigh, taking a sip of her drink. “He spent the night and made me breakfast this morning.”

“Wait, I thought you were at home last night working on school stuff. All those boxes you had to move? Where’d you meet this mystery guy? Did you go out?”

“No, I met him at home….” She trailed off, eyeing Lily expectantly.

“What? At home? Who was he?”

“Um, one of Jake’s friends came by. Only I didn’t let him know that I was Jake’s sister. He thought Jake had a new roommate, and I didn’t deny it. One thing led to another and….” She shrugged. “Now I’m totally screwed.”

“Literally, from the sounds of it,” Lily teased.

  “Oh stop,” Morgan protested.

“And where was your brother during all of this? I know there’s no way in hell you’d have a man over with him around. And there’d be murder charges if he found out one of his buddies slept with you.”

“Jake had K-9 training. He’s gone all weekend.”

“Right, I think Brock mentioned that, come to think of it.” Lily paused and let out a long breath. “So let me get this straight—you hooked up with a gorgeous man, who doesn’t know that he slept with his friend’s little sister?”

  “It sounds terrible, I know.”

“That’s probably the understatement of the year,” Lily said, laughing. “Jake is going to kill him. So does this mystery guy have a name?”

“It was Colton,” Morgan said helplessly.

“Colton? How is it possible that he didn’t know you were Jake’s sister? Brock, Jake, and Colt are practically inseparable.”

“We’ve never met before. Jake goes out with his buddies and does his own thing. He never wanted me tagging along. Besides, I hang out with my own friends. You know that. I didn’t even know Brock before last summer if you recall.”

“Yes, I remember that night quite well, thank you very much,” Lily said huffily. The night Lily and Brock had met had started off hot and steamy but ended with Brock bolting for the door of Lily’s posh apartment. Although they were blissfully happy now, Morgan knew that her best friend still didn’t like remembering the bumpy road they’d started their relationship on.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories. You know you guys are great together.”

“I know, I know. So what happened with you and Colton? How did you leave things?”

“I gave him my number. Colton has no idea who I am but wants to take me out next weekend. What am I supposed to do now? I’d love to see him again, but there’s no way in hell this could ever work. Ugh,” she groaned. “Why did the first guy I’ve been with since Brandon have to be Jake’s friend?”

“It’s fate. You and I each end up with a guy in their trio of friends. He’s over with Brock right now,” Lily said with a laugh. “They’re working on cars or something tonight. Maybe you should just go over there and come clean. He’ll be madder than hell, but at least Brock and I will be there to act as a buffer. Then yo
u won’t have to sneak around or anything.”

“No, I just can’t do it. He broke up with his ex-girlfriend because she lied to him. I didn’t straight-up lie, but I omitted a rather important detail about who I was. If he calls, I’ll just have to blow him off. I’ll just say I’m not interested or something.”

“But you like him. I can tell.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Morgan said with a shrug. “Even if he is the most amazing guy I’ve ever been with—this can’t turn into anything. As much as it kills me, I’m going to have to pretend I never laid eyes on Colton Pierce.”

  Chapter 9

“Fuck man, what’s gotten into you tonight?” Brock asked Colton, grabbing two more beers from the fridge. “You’ve had a shit-eating grin all over your face this afternoon,” he said, popping the cap of the bottles of their microbrews. “I know you’re not that happy to see my sorry ass, so who is she?”

“No can do,” Colton laughed, taking the bottle and a long sip of the cold brew. “My lips are sealed.”

They walked back into the living room to watch the rest of the game on the massive flat screen. Brock’s otherwise sparse furnishings were interspersed with Lily’s girly stuff. Every time Colton came over here there seemed to be a new pillow or collection of candles or something.

  Hell.

He couldn’t imagine living with a woman but damn if it wasn’t working all right for his friend.

Pushing aside a pink fluffy blanket, he resisted the urge to laugh. Maybe the promise of getting laid every night made it worth it. He’d given up serious relationships after his ex, but damn. He couldn’t fault his buddy.

“Why all the secrecy?” Brock asked, flopping down on the sofa. The baseball game came back on TV, and Colton’s gaze drifted to the players in the dugout. “Is she married or something?”

“Hell no. I just don’t want to fuck things up. She’s the first chick I’ve been this attracted to since Julie, and even though things went at warp-speed yesterday, I just need to take it slow from here on out.”
