Tears came to Kimberly’s eyes. The children were holding a small sculpture of the family.
April was smiling and Byron held his father’s satisfied look.
“Oh, you all.”
Kimberly was so lucky. What a difference a year made. She never dreamed she could be so happy, that Jack would relax enough to spend more time with her and the children.
Later on, the kids went out and Jack put a soulful CD on the player. Sweet slow music piped into the room. “Do you remember what Vicky said?”
Kimberly frowned. “Did she say I needed to take more vitamins?”
Jack’s crestfallen expression made her laugh. Kimberly walked into his arms and their bodies began to sway to the sweet music. Desire pooled in her middle. After complications, now that she’d had her final checkup, Vicky had given them the okay to make love again. “How could I not remember?” she said, reaching up to kiss him.
He swept her off the floor and headed to the bed.
Kimberly laughed. “This is my day. You don’t get gifts.”
“Just a tiny one?” Jack coaxed.
“Tiny! I expect great things from you, mister.”
“Baby, your wish is my command.”
Jack quickly stripped her of her clothes. “Baby, I’ll take longer the second time. It’s been a while.”
Kimberly slid Jack’s shirt from his shoulders and down his arms. “I don’t intend to be shortchanged,” she murmured in a stern voice.
Jack’s self-satisfied smile made her laugh. “No doubt about it. My magic doesn’t happen until my lady sings.”
Kimberly closed her arms around his neck, bringing his lips to hers. The kiss was both erotic and sweet. “I’m so lucky,” she whispered.
The desire in Jack’s eyes left no doubt of where his thoughts veered.
Kimberly tapped him on the chest. “I’m not talking about sex.”
Jack tilted her chin, the smile disappearing into a serious expression. “Neither am I, Kimberly. My life is richer, fuller and I have your stubbornness to thank for that.”
“Stubbornness…”
“Enough talk, woman.” Jack began to speak the language of desire and Kimberly relaxed to enjoy the pleasures of his touch.
