"Listen to me, Raelyn." Stefano interrupted me. I held my tongue and allowed him to speak. "With a legitimate business, things will turn around. Sure there's going to be a lot of resistance from those in it, but I'm willing to do anything to make you feel safe. A happy wife is a happy life."
My heart was stunned by his words. Would he really change the whole course of his organization for me? Could this actually work?
"I don't want to have to watch my back..." I said, side-eyeing him.
"You won't have to." He responded.
"Romano will become a made man." I said, again.
Stefano chuckled. "Not the way I became one. He'll go to school and the legitimacy of our family name will continue with him."
Stefano...to change what his family name represented and stood for, that was not going to be easy. Surely there would be a lot of pushback.
"Won't you break generations of tradition?" I asked him, wanting to know his response.
"You know I don't care about tradition."
I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my mouth.
Stefano responded with a small smile.
"You're not just saying all this to shut me up?"
"I'm not letting you go that easily, not if I can do something about it." Stefano said, raising a daring eyebrow at me.
I was relieved that Stefano came up with a solution before I did. I doubt I would have made the proper choice.
"There's something I need you to know." I said, my eyes softening as I was captured by Stefano's deep, brown eyes.
"What is it?"
I turned over and pulled the second drawer of my nightstand and moved away the items covering what I was going for. I took out the pregnant test and handed it to him.
"I'm pregnant, Stefano.
His jaw was clenched as his eyes visibly widened.
"Raelyn-"
"This isn't a joke."
I knew how sensitive Stefano was about having more children, so I couldn't joke with this. The relief I experienced after the doctor told me the good news was unmatched. This was me and Stefano's baby growing inside me, and I couldn't be any happier.
"Are you... sure?" Stefano asked. His hands were slightly shaking.
"Yes, Stefano! I found out today." I laughed, playfully hitting his chest.
Stefano closed his eyes with a smile as he shook his head.
"Although inconvenient, I can't help but be excited." Stefano trapped me by placing his hands by either side of my head.
"I feel the same way." I whispered.
