Crave: Part One Page 26

by E. K. Blair

In a complete haze, I try to take in the unfamiliar room. It’s nothing like the one I just moved into. When I shift my head to the other side, my heart stops. Like a jackknife, I sit up and look at a guy who’s naked and lying face down next to me.

For what feels like a solid minute, I have no heartbeat as my body breaks out in a prickling cold sweat. Paralyzed where I sit, my stomach buckles in a knot of nausea as my mind swims in utter blank space. Frozen still, I can’t for the life of me figure out where I am or how I got here or what the hell happened.

The moment I’m able to move, I look to find that I’m naked from the waist down.

I suck in a painful breath when my heart slams into my ribs. A bullet shoots straight through my chest, collapsing my lungs, and I can’t breathe. Everything goes blurry as my eyes fill with scalding hot tears that splash like acid as they rip down my face. The pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fit together.

The ax of terror dangles above me, threatening to break me in two as my eyes dart around frantically.

The used condom lying on the floor.

My underwear and shorts tossed across the room.

The phantom intrusion I feel inside my soul.

  And then the guillotine drops.

  No.

  No, no, no!

It took many people who love and support me to help me see this story come to fruition. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do if it weren’t for the following people.

To my fans, I cannot thank you enough for continuing to love my characters and support my stories. Your loyalty means the world to me. The greatest joy is being able to open my heart and share what’s inside with you.

To my husband, none of this would be possible without you. You’re the best Mr. Mom I know. Thank you for taking care of our children, our house, the laundry, the dinners, and so much more to allow me the time and privacy I need to write. I love you!

Sally Gillespie, you are one of my biggest blessings! The time you sacrifice for me is simply incredible. Thank you for helping me in the creation of this story. It wasn’t always easy, but you never let me give up.

Ashley Williams, wow! Just WOW! How do I even thank you properly? The hours upon hours you have devoted to this book are downright incredible! You make my words strong, even though you bust my balls to do so. From the early mornings to the late nights, and everything in between, you are always there for me. You are an amazing editor and friend!

Jennifer Juers, thank you for your honesty and time. I love that you don’t sugarcoat anything! You never try to appease me; you only want to help me. The time you put in to making this book the best it can be is invaluable!

My sister, thank you for, once again, advising me on all the medical situations that arise in this story. We laugh way too much, but you always take the time to clarify and explain everything I need to know to create an accurate storyline.

Bloggers, there are too many of you to name, but each and every one of you are equally important. Thank you for your undying support.
