“I am proud to stand with all of you,” Carol concluded and she raised her glass higher. “We are the witches. Be who you are and do so with pride. Blessed be!”

  Author’s Note

Writing The Retail Witches Series continues to be fun and exciting. The setting for this book 2 in the series, The Voodoo Children, being in New Orleans gave me the chance to explore old stories of voodoo, zombies, and ghosts in new and challenging ways. If you had fun reading it, please write a quick review on Amazon here.

  (((((((((((((Link))))))))))))

Like all of the books in the series, creating the story involved deep research into voodoo culture and lore, as well as witchcraft and spells of the areas. The inquisitive reader may find that the herb agrimony, and many of its uses described in the book, conform to actual voodoo practice. You may research the Goddess Oya, who is called the guardian of the Cities of the Dead in voodoo legend, and find her descriptions to be accurate. And for those of a technical mind, you could follow the steps that Casey uses to track down Figment while in Coastal Coffee, and be shocked to see how close the (totally legal) hacking sequence pinpoints your own location.

All of these details add depth and honesty and realism to the stories that are, in many ways, imaginative and fantastical. But it is the fantastic aspect of fantasy that we all love. Writing it is my passion and I am so happy with the development of the characters and the story as it grows. We have many adventures and surprises to discover as the series moves on. I am so happy to have you with me, and be sure to get the next book when it comes out.

The Garden Witches (a Retail Witches Novella)

Set thirty years before the first events in The Retail Witches Series, The Garden Witches tells the story of a younger Carol who longs to travel Europe after college. But she must postpone that dream, and spend the summer with her grandmother in Saint Augustine, Florida. While there, she discovers her late grandfather’s obsession: the search for an amethyst crystal ball stolen from a sixteenth century alchemist.

Carol, her quirky new friend, and Thistle the garden faerie, set out to finish what Carol’s grandfather started. Together the trio must solve clues, connect research, and explore Florida to find this powerful magickal artifact.

Along the way they meet a cast of witches and faeries, while a mysterious Shadowclan waif stalks their every move. Can they sort friend from foe in time to find the lost crystal and save an ancient witch (and themselves) from a brooding, deadly curse?
