“What else do you smell on me, Cosmo?”

“Arousal. Plain and simple, you’re horny as hell, but really sad. Those two emotions cloud your judgment. Not to mention, I have a knack for making people want me.”

“Does it bother you that I just want sex from you, nothing more? That I need you to take my mind off Trevor? I don’t think you’re using your seductive powers on me either, are you? You know if you are … you don’t need to.”

“No … to both questions. But sometimes, I have no control over my sexual appeal.” He brought the hand he was holding to his lips and kissed her palm. “If you do this, it will change everything you think you know about sex, Rissa.”

“I’ve only been with Trevor, so that’s all the sex I know.”

Taking a deep breath, he said, “That makes it even worse. If things happen between us, no human will ever be able to make you feel like one of us can. I won’t be able to scrub those memories.”

Excitement filled her at the thought of having her memories scrubbed clean. “Why can’t you? Maybe you could just scrub Trevor out of there?”

“I can’t do that. You have a job to do, a job that is beneficial to our race. I can’t take the chance of scrubbing something you need to keep you safe, to keep humanity safe.”

“Okay, then let’s rationalize it this way … it’s an unfortunate time of night for what you need. All of the blue-collar women have gone home, but it’s too early for the ‘fishnet women’ to start the night shift.”

Looking into her eyes, he said, “What makes you think that it has to be a woman?”

She was somewhat aware of their convenient bisexuality, and swallowed back the images that rushed to her mind. He grinned. “That’s right, Rissa. You know I don’t care who I get my energy from, as long as I get it. Tell me, does that change your opinion of me?”

It didn’t. God, she wanted this man inside of her so badly, it was all she could think of. For the first time in forty-seven days, she wasn’t thinking of Trevor. Okay, maybe right then, but she knew Cosmo would make her forget everything and everyone. She knew if any man could do that, it would be him.

She answered his question by pulling off his combat boots one at a time, dropping each to the ground with a deafening boom that only steel-toes could make. It was possible that everything was just magnified for her, senses piqued in anticipation of what would happen next.

She reached for the button on his black and gray camo pants, and he once again took her hands in his.

“Rissa, it’s getting harder and harder to resist you … pun intended.”

“Then don’t resist. If it bothers you, just think of it as part of my job. I’m protecting you from being in the real world in your condition. Someone could find you, take you to a medical facility, and all hell would break loose. I’m just doing my civic duty.”

Rissa pulled her hands from his. She needed to finish the task at hand. She needed this time with Cosmo the way humans needed oxygen. She felt like she had been underwater and he was her first breath of air in forty- seven days.

She tugged at his pants, pulling them down his long, muscular legs, then came back up to attend to his black boxer briefs. She hesitated for a second that seemed like an eternity, before pulling those off, too.

What sprang forth was nothing short of breathtaking. His penis was long and hard with a girth so wide, she wondered if he was going to fit inside of her. The veins straining against soft, satin skin made every tiny hair on her body stand at attention. His musky male scent clung to her nasal passages, making her blood run hotter, and causing the moisture between her legs to pool thicker and wetter than it had ever done before.

Rissa pulled the pen from her makeshift bun, creating a veil of silky waves, as she lowered her head toward his massive erection. She pressed her lips against the skin beneath his jewels, then licked from his balls all the way up to the head of his impressive shaft, causing him to buck his hips off the bed as he groaned. She pulled him into her mouth, sucking him all the way down to the back of her throat.

Cosmo’s hands tangled in her hair, urging her on. She sucked him harder, rolling her tongue across his vascular length as she went.

All too soon, he was grabbing her shoulders, pulling her up. “As much as I want you to finish what you started, it doesn’t work that way. I have to make you come to get my energy. Once you come several times, then you may finish me.”

Did he just say, “several times”? Yeah, she could deal with that.

“I can smell your arousal.” The vivid flashback was disrupted.

It took her a few seconds to grasp that the rich, velvety voice was in the here-and-now, and not from the memory of their sex. And, wow, what memories those had been. Best. Sex. Ever.

“Sorry, I was lost in thought.”

“I could tell,” he said, nostrils flaring. “My Rissa, if I can smell your arousal, so can my team. Unlike my team, who won’t smell it until they come out of that room, the wolves can smell it now, I assure you.” Bringing his hand up and brushing the backs of his knuckles down her cheek, he said, “Were you thinking of me?”

“Why would I be thinking of you? Been there, done that,” she pretended.

He put a hand over his heart, feigning a painful heart attack. “Please, tell me it’s not Trevor. He doesn’t deserve you after what he put you through.”

“Nope, not thinking about anyone. Just horny, I guess,” Rissa said, shrugging her shoulders for effect.

  Cosmo growled out loud.

“I’d just tell anyone who thinks it’s for you, that you touched me, causing the arousal innocently. No big deal.”

“You don’t get it, do you? Forced arousal is a different scent than one of willing arousal. You, my dear, smell willing. If I were to stick my hand down those black pants and into your black lacy panties, I think I would find you rather wet and ready.” Quirking an eyebrow in an adorable way, he continued, “Would I not?”

“This is not why I pulled you out into the hallway.” She pushed on his chest—his tight, hard muscular chest that she had seen devoid of clothing. He had, in fact, made her come several times that night, so what’s one more? She shook her head to rattle out images of that night. There could never be another go-around with this sex god.

Another animal-like growl from Cosmo helped pull her back to reality.

“Anyway, I want to know what you think of all this. You know, the missing men and women. Are there any of your kind missing? Do you think it’s the Dark Ones?”

“We try to stay out of cases that involve humans. But we did do a little research on this. Our kind come and go as they please, they don’t have to check in. Plus, they have houses all over the world they could be at, in the blink of an eye. The Dark Ones tried their hand at inter-species breeding a while back with the Vamps. It worked out only briefly, until it became a problem for everyone. What a freaking mess that was.”

“Well, we need to find out exactly what Others are missing, and how long they’ve been gone. If you could have your folks gather some intel then get back to me, that would be a good start. The kid we’re holding in the other room is star-struck by the fact that I know Tate, which tells me they have some knowledge of Others. I just don’t know how much information they obtained on the streets, versus what was learned in captivity. They know just enough about themselves and Others to be dangerous, even if they’re being monitored by tracking devices.” Breaking away from Cosmo and pacing the hallway, she was anxious to uncover answers about those diabolical enough to oversee an experiment of this magnitude.

“Don’t read too much into this. We need to take this day by day, case by case. I’ll take the kids back to the colony, lock them up, and remove their tracking chips. We’ll figure out if they’re good, bad or Other, then take it from there,” Cosmo explained. He caught her by the shoulder and halted her nervous strides, his touch like electricity shocking her body into instant arousal.

  Even the
most innocent physical contact sent her mind to thoughts of their “date.”

  * * *

She remembered how it felt to be pressed up against the glass window, legs wrapped around his waist. Upon his request—more like insistence—she wore the white lab coat and nothing else.

He had placed his thumb on her clit and pressed into it, sending sexual energy, through his touch, directly into her sensitive bundle of nerves. It was her undoing. Her mouth fell open, and she tilted her head back in ecstasy, while any leftover inhibitions shattered into pieces and fell around her.

Oh, but Cosmo had only just begun. He tangled his fingers in her hair and forced her to watch him as she climaxed. She was not allowed to close her eyes when she came, she had to force them open to focus her gaze on his eyes. She later found out that was not normal for him.

As her next orgasm claimed her yet again, she watched Cosmo pump into her with all he was worth. She was amazed at how well she was able to take his size in such furious thrusts. She had opened up for him like a blossoming flower. As she came again, she observed a pale blue light being drawn from her stomach, out of her belly button and into his. He closed his eyes, grinned and sighed. Pure pleasure washed over his body, reflected through his handsome face.

A wave of excess light remained in the air, then dissipated back into her center. She asked where it went. Cosmo explained to her that they never took more than they needed. It was hers, so it returned to her body to regenerate.

Rissa’s legs nearly buckled under his touch. “Why did you do that?”

“I want the others to think I caused your arousal. Your scent is so strong, I ache from the throbbing hard-on pressing against my zipper. If the potency of your arousal can do that to me, no doubt the rest will feel the effects as well. I added a touch of force to the mix, so they will think your stimulation is my fault.”

“Why would you do that? It shouldn’t matter if I’m keyed up or not. Hell, I haven’t been with anyone for a long … never mind, it doesn’t matter.”

She stared at the wall behind his left shoulder, as he stared down at her face. The system must have misted out another dose of the sweet orange calming spray, or whatever the hell it was, because it was all she could smell. She had to wonder about the potency of her arousal scent, if it could cut through an aroma consistent with an orange grove.

Trevor couldn’t think straight. Rissa was alone with that perverted, over-sexed Light One, and something had the wolves pacing around with gigantic erections … what the hell was that about? He couldn’t concentrate on what was being said in this very important briefing, and that was a problem.

He couldn’t fight back the images of Rissa … under him, on top of him, going down on him … where the hell were those thoughts coming from? It was like someone had stirred the air with a pheromone stick. Shit, it’s probably Cosmo. Rissa was a beautiful target for a horny fuck like him. Cosmo would force her to want him, then take advantage of it.

Trevor sharply rose from his chair, knocking it over in the process, and rushed from the room, probably interrupting the meeting in mid-sentence. Hell, he didn’t know, nor care. Bursting out into the hallway, the scene that unfolded before him, caused all the blood to rush from his cock to his head and his heart. Rissa was up against the wall with her hands on Cosmo’s chest, as he tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ear. Damn it; he wanted that private moment with her.

Rissa used both hands on Cosmo’s chest to try and push him away, but he stayed where he was. The hand caressing the side of her jaw was a gesture way too intimate for Trevor’s liking. Trevor could tell Cosmo sensed Trevor’s presence, but didn’t break his gaze from Rissa’s green hazel eyes.

The sexual tension in the air was so thick, it seemed almost tangible. That would be why the wolves were running hot, and Trevor was as horny as a sex addict on ecstasy.

“I’ll go outside and wait for the wolves to bring back the other kids. Then you may do as you wish with them,” Cosmo announced, then turned on his booted heel and headed for the front door.

Trevor slowly closed the gap between Rissa and himself, never taking his eyes off of her flushed cheeks and heaving breasts. He almost didn’t feel Tate push past him, sniffing the air.

Rissa seemed to regain her senses. Turning toward Tate, she said, “Would you come with me to talk to the kid in the other room?”

“Sure thing. Then we can go out and find the other two, so I can get my happy ass home to Tiponi. I suddenly need my woman with a great intensity that has nothing to do with the moon.” He winked at Rissa, causing even more of that beautiful pink color to crawl up to her cheeks, then followed her down the long hallway.

Everyone else filed out of the room and hightailed it out the front door like the building was on fire. Tate came back through the hallway, almost not making it out the front door, before he transitioned into the biggest, blackest wolf Trevor had ever seen. He took off so quickly, he left a trail of fur in his wake.

Rissa walked down the hallway, her all-black outfit a stark contrast to the fluorescent white corridor. Her beauty was overwhelming, and caught Trevor’s breath in his chest.

She made her way to him, saying, “Cruz had someone take Josh to a holding cell until the team can get back here with the other two.”

Trevor nodded. “So, boss lady, tell me … what do we do now?”

“Well, I’m taking Rissa out to a steak dinner,” Cruz cut in. “We would ask you, but you probably need to go call the little woman, maybe read a bedtime story to the kid?”

“You’re planning on being gone when the others come back?” Trevor asked, patronizingly. He glared at Cruz. If looks could kill …

“They have my number, but Cosmo knows the ins and outs of this place. We also have other agents on duty. No biggie.” Placing his hand on Rissa’s lower back, Cruz escorted Rissa down the hall to the exit. He looked over his shoulder at Trevor and smiled, before saying, “Don’t wait up.”

  Chapter 8

Rissa slid the key card in the door of her Marriott Hotel room. Jock was going to kill Trev for using the company card to book a room this nice. It was nothing like the little hovels they usually stayed in for work. The solid wood door was hard to open; the damn thing was so heavy. She guided the door to shut quietly … because she hated when people let their hotel room doors slam shut. It was so rude.

Humans were all together the most entitled and arrogant of all the species she had come across in her line of work. She immediately felt a presence in the room, unmoving, waiting in silence for her arrival. For what? She reached into her shoulder bag and gripped the handle of her little .380. Sliding the safety off, she aimed the gun right toward the presence. With her free hand, she flipped on the light.

“Whoa! Hold on there, quick-draw,” Trevor said, as he put his hands up in surrender.

Rissa quickly clicked the safety back into place and slid the gun back into her black Coach bag. As more and more women were taking advantage of their Second Amendment rights, the purse was made with a special compartment for concealed carries.

“Geez, Trevor. I could have killed you. What the heck are you doing in here? How did you get in? Do you have a key to my room?” Looking around the room, she continued, “This is my room, isn’t it?”

“Umm, let’s see if I can answer your hundred-and-one questions. I was just waiting here for you to make sure you made it back safely. The rooms are connected. When I checked us in, I asked them to unlock the connecting door. No, I don’t have a key for your room. Yes, this is just your room. You have it all to yourself, unless …” He raised a single eyebrow and cracked a half-smile.

Her heart was still hammering in her chest, so it took her a moment to reply. “Unless, what? Did you forget you’re engaged? Did you forget you don’t want me anymore?” She turned away from him, attending to her suitcase after placing it on the luggage holder.

Trevor cleared his throat. “How was dinne
r with Cruz? Did they find the other two kids?”

Busying herself with her bags so she wouldn’t have to look at him, she said, “Dinner was good. We went to that old steak place in the next town over. I don’t think they’ve changed the decor in like fifty years, but it’s probably the best damn steak and French onion soup in the tri-county area. They did find the other two. Cosmo had his crew take them back to his colony to deactivate the chips in them and do some testing.” She pulled out her night clothes, looking forward to taking a hot shower and getting some sleep.

“I went through the missing men’s files,” Trevor said. “The common denominator looks like a fertility thing. They were having their sperm frozen. I made an appointment with the clinic. We’ll go in tomorrow as a couple, wanting children, but at a later date. We should be able to get a feel for the type of people working there, and you can determine if any of them are Others.”

“I thought I was in charge of this mission.”

“You were on a date.” Trevor shifted in the armchair, then sat very still. His eyes rose to meet hers, before he asked, “Did you sleep with him?”

“We were at dinner for like an hour, Trev. When would we have had time for sex?”

“Not Cruz. Did you sleep with Cosmo?”

Turning back to her suitcase, she answered, “I wouldn’t say that I ‘slept’ with him. Absolutely no sleep took place.” She forced a little laugh.

He was out of his chair in a nano-second, grabbing her shoulders and spinning her around. That would be Trevor’s special talent—he was scary fast.

Through gritted teeth, he said, “Did you have sex with him when you were with me?”

“No! That’s not who I am. I’m not you.”
