  About the Artists

D.E. CHRISTMAN is an artist who simply wants to scare the hell out of you. And he takes great pleasure in doing so. His Lovecraftian inspired work has been described as “Twisted, demented and wonderfully creepy” (The Horror-Web), a description he takes great pride in. His art has been featured an many galleries, art shows, magazines, book covers, and websites that specialize in the macabre and strange.

He makes his living through his company Grendel’s Den Design Studio, producing art and design for print and web. He is also regarded as one of Philadelphia’s premier zombie experts and has given various interviews and lectures regarding his knowledge of both the living dead and slaves of the famous voodoo curse.

But until nine years ago, illustrating was only a hobby, something he would do to relax. Most of his efforts had been in academia, where he earned advanced degrees in physical anthropology and archaeology. But after spending five or six years laboring at excavation sites, he burned out and subsequently took a job at Dark Horse Comics doing production work.

This career change reignited his creative drive and after three years he left to pursue his own painting and projects. He has been illustrating as a means of making a living ever since. He has created a nice little niche for himself that satisfies his natural anti-authoritarianism, his reclusive nature and his need for adulation all at once.
