Outside of his door, Mira closed her eyes and tapped into her power. She followed his aura and rode it all the way deep inside his soul. She nearly threw up when she saw that some of Kyra’s aura was entangled with his. The man had a hard-on for that chick. Now it was just going to have to be used against him. She tapped into his brain and heightened his feelings for Kyra immensely. When he was affected by what she had done, Mira opened the door and slipped into his bedroom.
“Kyra?” he asked sleepily. Mira kept quiet, but she kept feeding his brain the illusion that it was Kyra who had walked into his bedroom. He was blinded by desire and lust to know any better. Mira hurriedly took her clothes off before joining him in the bed. He was so heightened off the lust Mira was amplifying in his brain that he was intensely hard in his underwear. Damn. Mira was going to make this well worth her wild.

Kyra watched as Kellan ran to his mate and scooped her in his arms. He twirled her around and kissed all over her face and neck.
“I thought I fucking lost you,” he whispered to her.
“I’m so sorry,” she said.
“But I’m here now, and it was Kyra who kept me safe.” Kellan looked over at Kyra who was watching them. In fact, she was watching all the couples embrace.
“I’ll go spend some time with Kingston, I miss him,” Bliss said. She kissed Kellan on the cheek and left him standing there. Kellan needed to know what the fuck happened and who he had to kill for touching his mate in the first place.
“Can you ladies excuse us?” Kellan asked Rita, Gemma and Selena. They all nodded and left the room.
“Where is Zander and Niles?” Kellan asked.
“At the lounge. I told them to get the place cleared out and check the whole area to make sure everything was normal before they returned,” Kyra answered.
“You came home with the females, alone?”
“Yes.”
“Jaxson told you that being without backup goes against enforcer code,” Kellan said.
“I know. But I chose to take that risk to see to it that the women get back here as quick as possible.” Kellan glared at her for a moment.
“Can you go and get Jaxson?” he asked Tristan.
“Yeah sure.” Kellan looked at Kyra again. She was keeping a brave face, but he could feel her trying to keep it together. She was starting to crack with feelings of deficiency, failure and fright. Kellan realized that after the ordeal everyone had gotten the chance to be embraced by their significant others, except her. She needed the comfort even though she wasn’t going to ask for it.
“Go on and talk to Jaxson before he comes out. Have a private moment with him,” he told her softly. She looked at him, her chest rise and falling rapidly as relief washed over her.
“Thank you Kellan,” she rasped out. She bolted towards the tunnels to catch up with Tristan. He was waiting just inside the tunnels for her.
“He’s gonna be hard on you,” Tristan told her as they walked towards Jaxson’s room.
“I know,” she sighed.
“But he’s only hard on you because I mean, he’s the alpha and his mate was in trouble. Just remember that even though he’s gonna be tough on you, he still values your work as an enforcer.”
“Thanks, Tris,” Kyra smiled.
“Hopefully Jaxson isn’t tough on me either for fucking up tonight. I can handle Kellan. But Jax? I hate disappointing him.” They reached Jaxson’s bedroom door.
“You’re too cute for someone to be disappointed in you,” Tristan said.
“Just flash him that smile, and he’s a goner. Besides-” Tristan stopped speaking as the scent of arousal and sex waved around his nose. He looked at Jaxson’s door realizing something hot and heavy was going on inside the room.
“Come, Kyra,” he said trying to pull her away from the door, but she moved her arm from his grasp. She stared blankly at the door, her eyes misty. She knew very well what it smelled like when Jaxson was turned on, and there was no mistaken the scent. Tristan was trying to save her from experiencing the deceit that was surely laying behind the door, but Kyra wasn’t having it. Eyes glowing, and using the strength of her wolf, she bared her teeth and kicked the door open.
Mira froze on top of Jaxson just as she’d only gotten his tip inside her aching walls. She had just sucked his delicious dick, and now she was yearning for her prize. Only now, Kyra and Tristan were standing in the doorway staring right at them. Mira had been laser-focused, but the moment Kyra kicked open the door, she lost control of Jaxson’s mind. He woke up immediately, blinking hard. She tried to pull it back together, but it was too late. He’d already registered that this was wrong.
“What the fuck are you doing?” he growled pushing her off him hard. Kyra cried out in anguish, unable to keep it together. Jaxson jerked his head up and looked at the door. It was broken open with the woman he loved staring right at him in bed naked with another woman. Kyra covered her eyes and hid her face in Tristan’s chest. He held onto her and glared at Jaxson.
“You’re fucked up for that!” He snapped at Jaxson.
“Wait, no, no. This is all wrong. I didn’t-” Jaxson tried to get up and rush over to Kyra, but Tristan moved her away from the door.
“Leave her the fuck alone Jax,” Tristan spat. He walked away with Kyra’s head still buried in his chest, taking her away from Jaxson. Jaxson turned and looked at Mira.
“Shit!” She punched the bed, angry that Kyra had been back so soon. Just ten more minutes and Mira would have been riding Jaxson’s black stallion into euphoria.
“What did you do to me,” Jaxson whispered.
“What I had to,” Mira replied. She got off the bed and redressed.
“That threat you thought I made? Surprise,” she said sarcastically.
“Mira, you need to go tell Kyra you staged this. Right now.” Mira was shocked at his tone. He wasn’t angry, and he wasn’t shouting. He was pleading to her. Letting go of her scornfulness, Mira could sense in his aura that he was hurt. He was hurt bad. The empathic nature in her wanted to take away his pain, but she didn’t touch him.
“I didn’t stage anything,” she replied.
“Your dick was in my mouth, and it was about to be in my pussy. Wasn’t nothing fake about that.”
“Mira, please,” he begged.
“I cannot lose her.”
“You already did!” Jaxson punched the wall in anger. He quickly shoved on his clothes and bolted out of the room to go and find his woman.
Kellan was alarmed when Tristan came out from the tunnels with Kyra against his chest. She was crying and trembling.
“What the fuck happened?” Kellan asked. He took Kyra from Tristan’s arms and tried to look at her, but she was hiding her face in her hands. Jaxson emerged from the tunnels, out of breath.
“Kyra,” he tried to reach for her, but Kellan slapped his hands away.
“Did you do something to her?” Kellan asked. Jaxson didn’t quite know how to even say what happened. All he knew was that one minute he was sleeping and dreaming about his lover and the next moment, Mira was hovered over his dick about to join their bodies.
“She caught him fucking Mira,” Tristan spoke up.
“That wasn’t what it seemed!” Jaxson exclaimed.
“I don’t know what-”
“Wasn’t what it seemed?” Kyra asked shakily.
“Do you think I’m stupid?”
“Cocoa bean I swear if you just give me a chance to talk to you privately I can-”
“No Jaxson.” Kyra looked at him.
“I asked you not to break my heart, and you did. So you can have her.”
“Kyra, baby, please. I don’t want her.”
“Sure as hell could have fooled me.” She sucked up her tears long enough only to run off to her room where she would let them flow freely. Jaxson was left looking at his brothers who were all glaring at him hotly.
“Something is wrong,” Jaxson told them.
“I would
never do some shit like that. Not to her. Feel my fucking heartbeat. Hear my truth. I did not want to fuck Mira or betray Kyra.”
“So what happened then huh?” Kellan asked.
“I don’t fucking know,” Jaxson said desperately.
“Mira threatened she was going to do some shit if she couldn’t be happy like me and Kyra. So this is the shit she done. But I wouldn’t willingly just lay there and let another woman fuck me.” Kellan scrubbed his face with his hands.
“I cannot deal with this shit right now,” he groaned.
“Think about it,” Jaxson said.
“You’ve known me since we were kids. We’ve fucked around with plenty of she-wolves before. You know how I treat women. Especially one that I’m claiming.”
“Until you find your mate,” Tristan said.
“I have no mate!” Jaxson yelled.
“Kyra is it for me! I would never, ever do anything to hurt her!” Jaxson stomped away, pushing his brothers from his path. He went directly to Kyra’s bedroom so he could talk to her, plead with her, anything. Only when he reached her bedroom, the she-wolves were gathered around the bedroom door.
“Let me in I want to talk to her,” Jaxson said stoically.
“It doesn’t matter, she’s not in there,” Bliss said.
“Where is she?”
“She left the cave. I suppose to get away from you,” Gemma answered hotly. Jaxson rolled his eyes and left them alone. Everyone was going to hate him for this, but he didn’t care. He just needed one she-wolf to forgive him. That’s it.
Jaxson hurried out of the cave in a rush to catch up to Kyra. He thought he would be able to easily find Kyra, but the moment he stepped out of the waterfall he didn’t smell anything but leaves, foliage, and tree bark. She’d masked her scent. That meant he couldn’t find her. Cursing, Jaxson went back inside the cave. Kellan was waiting inside for him.
“She left,” Jaxson told him.
“I know. She asked me if she could.”
“You just let her go?” Jaxson gasped.
“She needs time to cool off, and so do you. Don’t worry. I know where she is. I won’t let anything happen to her.” Jaxson shook his head and rubbed his temple.
“Look,” Kellan began.
“I don’t know what happened, but you’re right. I’ve known you too long to think you’d ever do something like this. Especially to Kyra.”
“Mira is a sneaky bitch. Yes, she saved Rita. Yes, she may be misunderstood, and a loner or just plain ole don’t know any better; but she did something tonight that I can never forgive. You should think deeply if you want someone like that in our pack.”
“Not everyone’s moral compass is set straight. Mira is just as hurt by you choosing Kyra. So yes maybe she went a little bit too far, but that’s not something I can punish. Hurt people do things to hurt people Jaxson. So maybe Kyra isn’t the only one you need to speak to.” Jaxson growled in anger.
“I’m sorry Kellan, but if I lose Kyra and you let Mira stay, I’m outta here. I will be relinquishing my role and position in the Phoenix Pack.” Jaxson looked at his best friend and alpha long and hard before he turned and left the cave again.
Chapter Twenty
Kyra sucked up her tears as she sat high in a tree looking at the sun rise. She’d been restless for the whole night, silent tears streaming down her face. Never had she felt heartache like this before and she wished she could rip her heart from her chest and still live. She didn’t want to feel any of this shit. Hell, why did she have to? Looking at the fierceness of the sun, Kyra let the hot rays renew her energy. If Jaxson wanted to ruin what they had then so be it. No matter how much she cried, it wouldn’t change the situation. Either way, she still had to move on with her own life. Though she may always still feel the betrayal, she had to pretend it didn’t affect her. She had to pretend that she could live her life without him, and eventually it would become true.
Breathing in deep, Kyra exhaled and closed her eyes. She told herself it would be okay. After another moment alone, Kyra scaled down the large tree ready to head back to the cave. Since everything went crazy yesterday, Kyra still hadn’t been able to give Kellan the full report on what happened. Through mind speak she had told the she-wolves what happened, but she didn’t want to talk about it anymore. It was over and done with, and she had to move on. They all did.
Entering the cave, she was shaking and trembling with facing Jaxson, and the rest of the pack but Kyra got good at hiding her true emotions. No one even knew she had nightmares about Maverick. If she could hide that from her pack, then she could surely hide the fact that she was still in pain from seeing Jaxson in bed with another woman. To think that drama like that only happened to humans.
“Kyra!” Bliss squealed, seeing Kyra come into the dining room. The pack was sitting down having breakfast, Jaxson included. The only person not there was Mira. Kyra was thankful. She wasn’t so sure what she would have done if she saw Mira. Then again, Mira probably just saw an opening and exploited it to get with Jaxson. Women were like that sometimes.
“Hey,” Kyra smiled as best as she could to her alpha female.
“How are you?”
“I’m perfect,” Kyra lied. She took Kingston from Bliss and tickled the baby. His smiles made Kyra feel genuine happiness.
“Dang, you getting heavy,” Kyra teased.
“What you been eating?”
“Everything,” Kellan replied. He understood that Kyra didn’t want to revisit the topic of last night, so he spoke to her as if nothing had happened. In time she would be able to speak outwardly about it.
“That boy eats every five minutes,” Kellan joked.
“You were the same when you were little too,” Jayce said.
“How the fuck would you know, you were little the same time I was little, and you ate just as much as I did!” Kellan exclaimed.
“Y’all all greedy,” Bliss said.
“But Kellan told me we could start giving him oatmeal to eat soon. My breast milk does little to fill him up sometimes, so he wants more and more.” Bliss had to get used to raising her baby differently than a human baby. Apparently, when Kingston turned three months, oatmeal, porridge, mashed potatoes, yams, and fruits could be incorporated into his diet.
“Speaking of greedy, sit down and eat, I hear your stomach growling,” Kellan said to her. Still holding Kingston, Kyra sat down in the seat she always sat down in the right across from Jaxson. She felt him looking straight at her. Kyra avoided returning his stare. If she even looked at him, the floodgates might open again, or she’d become angry. Either way, she was going to avoid interacting with him.
Jaxson felt like he was trapped. Staring at the beautiful woman where his mark was still prominent on her shoulder and not be able to speak to her. He knew that he could only make things worse if he reached out to talk to her about the situation. Especially because she spent the whole night outside of the cave to be away from him. Jaxson had searched and searched and was unable to find her. Now she was doing everything in her power to avoid eye contact with him.
Do not speak to her, Kellan said in Jaxson’s mind. His tone of voice made it very clear that it was not a suggestion.
If it doesn’t involve enforcer work, leave her alone until she is ready to speak to you. Jaxson’s wolf was forced to obey their alpha. So, Jaxson just sat there looking at the beautiful woman in front of him.
“Kellan I have to give you the report about last night. I’m sorry it-”
“That’s fine Kyra. Me, you, Jaxson, Tristan, and Jayce will have a meeting once we’re done eating.”
“Perfect,” Kyra responded. Breakfast went by with no hiccups. Kyra was relieved the moment when Jaxson stood with his empty plate. She visibly relaxed but hoped that no one had saw her relief. She didn’t want anyone to know that even his presence had an effect on her. Kyra noticed however that he played it cool. He was quiet and seemed content and calm. She thought that he would be begging her to talk to him
, but he hadn’t said a word. Was he over her already? Kyra felt even more stupid for not being over him.
After breakfast, while she had the spare time, Kyra went to her bedroom to shower and change her clothes. Once showered she felt fresh and rejuvenated. She went straight to Kellan’s office and in fact was the last person to join the meeting.
“Excuse my tardiness,” she said. She was about to stay standing in the office until Tristan got up and gave her his seat in front of Kellan’s desk. Rita was sitting in the chair next to her with a notebook while Jayce stood behind where Kellan sat around his desk.
“So what happened?” Kellan asked.
“A human got into the club. Two in fact,” Kyra informed him. Everyone stared at each other.
“What?” Kellan dropped the pen he was holding.
“I think that even though the place looks shut down, people are still coming and going inside. Maybe the humans saw the shifters going in and out of the place. Either way, they got inside.”
“So we need tighter security,” Kellan said. Both Jayce and Tristan scribbled in their notebooks.
“Between Jaxson, Tristan, and myself, the security is built for our pack. While inside the lounge we need extra backup on security, especially if we’re looking after our own. Had we had extra security maybe the humans wouldn’t be able to enter in the first place.” Kyra realized that as she spoke, Jayce never stopped writing as if he was taking notes on her every word.
“We will have to work on that,” Kellan said.
“Perhaps all the shifters we’re training to be enforcers should take on the role of security along with actual enforcers,” Jaxson offered. Kellan nodded, acknowledging the suggestion. It was a good one.
“So what happened inside the lounge with the humans?” Jayce asked.
