“Why does everybody think I’m some evil person?” she asked him.

Pain laughed in her face. He couldn’t believe she was asking that question. When she kept looking at him for an answer, he decided to avoid the question altogether.

“Why were you eavesdropping outside my door?” he asked.

“I wasn’t, I was only outside your door for a minute or two. I was going to knock then I heard your dad talking to you, so I walked away,” she lied.

“If you walked away while we were talking, why were you just walking in the room when I came out. You have a bathroom in your room, so you can’t say you were using the bathroom. So, what were you listening for?” he asked.

“I thought I was free to walk around here. I told you what happen. Why can’t you believe me and leave it alone?” she whined.

“You need to start packing. You’re lying to my face, and we both know you’re lying, but you won’t stop lying. That makes me think that my dad was right. I’ll call the nurse, so she can meet you at your place. I’ll keep paying the nurses, but you’ve got to go,” Pain told her.

Nikki jumped to her feet with anger showing on her face. The tears were now a distant memory.

“What the fuck? You told me I didn’t have to sit over there alone all the time. That’s gonna drive me crazy. You’re gonna keep your word to me. You owe me that much,” she said to him.

“Your fake ass not crying no more, I see. If you weren’t in the hospital for so long, I would doubt you were even pregnant right now. Your ass needs a damn psych evaluation. Something is seriously wrong with your crazy ass,” Pain told her.

“Don’t call me crazy, Pain,” Nikki said.

“I’m not calling you shit. I’m saying your ass is crazy. Your crazy ass is fucking psycho, and you’re gonna get out of my damn house,” Pain said.

He turned to walk out of the room, but he felt something hard hit the back of his head. Then he heard something hard drop on the floor. Looking down, he saw the remote to the television on the floor.

“You throwing shit at me now?” he asked.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Get the fuck out my room,” she told him.

“Pack ya shit, man. I’m dropping your ass off at your place. I shouldn’t have brought your ass here in the first place. It’s all good because you’re getting out of here today.” he told her.

“I’m not going any fucking where. I’m pregnant with your fucking kid. Only a fuck nigga would put his pregnant baby mama out,” she said with a smirk.

“My fuck nigga status was solidified when I fucked you while I was dating your cousin. That name calling shit don’t mean nothing to me. Get your ass up and start packing, or I’ll just drop you off with the clothes on your back,” Pain fussed.

“The only way I’m leaving here is if you pick my big ass up and carry me out of here. I’m not going no fucking where,” she reiterated.

“That’s what you think with your crazy ass,” Pain said.

“STOP FUCKING CALLING ME CRAZY!” she screamed at the top of her lungs.

“Stop doing crazy shit. Look, I’m not gonna keep doing this with you. Bring your ass, man,” Pain said.

He went to the kitchen to get his keys off the counter. Nikki pushed him down and went to get the keys first. Then she picked them up and stuffed them in her bra.

“What the fuck is ya problem, man?” Pain asked.

“We’re gonna be a family. I finally got a chance to have a family. A real family that loves me. You’ll love me, and this baby’s gonna love me. A family with love, that’s what we’ll be. I know you can picture it,” she told him.

“Family? What the hell are you talking about? We’re not together. You have family, man, it ain’t like you’re adopted or some shit. Your scheming ass aunties were just over here. What the hell is wrong with you?” Pain said.

He was truly confused by what she was saying. Her family didn’t fuck with her now because of the shit she did, but it wasn’t always that way.

Nikki took off back up the steps mumbling to herself. Pain was gonna go after her, but he just stood at the bottom of the steps.

“Tell me we’re gonna be a family, Pain,” she told him from the top of the stairs.

  “Hell nah,” he said.

“If you don’t say we’ll be a family, I’ll jump down these stairs and tell everybody you pushed me,” Nikki said with a smile.

“But, you mad I’m calling you crazy. Think about the shit you just said. Who jumps down some fucking stairs? What if you lose the baby?” he asked.

I’m happy as hell that I have the cameras in here that her dumb ass don’t know about.

“I promise you, I’ll jump, and you’re gonna go to jail for it. No more time to spend with the doctor bitch that’s trying to take you away from your family. She’s not gonna want you when she finds out you pushed me down the steps. Murder isn’t gonna be able to get your ass out of this one. Don’t drop the damn soap. You can change it by telling me you love me. That’s all you have to say, and everything will be fine,” she told him.

“I ain’t telling your crazy ass shit,” Pain said.

Nikki released a crazy laugh that he’d never heard before, then she closed her eyes and let her body fall.

  Chapter Fourteen

“Jimmy, stop kissing me all in the face. I need to sleep. Why can’t you just get in the bed like normal people?” Ms. Ella said.

Uncle Jimmy had just come in from getting Kelvin set up at a hotel and dropping Murder off. The party was in two days, so they had to keep Kelvin tucked away for just as long. He hoped everything went well and nothing came up to throw off the plan they had.

“Hush up, woman. I came in here to get some sugar from my sugar jar. I know you not sleeping with all these clothes on. We talked about this, Ella,” Uncle Jimmy said, sounding irritated. He was hoping to come in and slide into his woman, but that wasn’t happening.

“You must be crazy if you think my old behind is gonna be sleeping naked. What if the house catches on fire? Anything can happen around here. I don’t need the paramedics or police coming in here looking all at my body,” Ms. Ella said and hoped he understood.

“I’ll tell you what, if I come in here again and I gotta fight through all these clothes to get to what’s mine, we gonna have a problem. Come on over here and give me some loving,” he told her as he pulled the covers back.

Jimmy’s phone rang as he was about to put one of her nipples in his mouth. “Shit,” he said as he reached his hand out to get the phone. “This better be a call about somebody dying or damn near dead,” he said as his form of hello.

“She still has a pulse, but that shit is hard to find. I need ya help, Uncle Jimmy,” the voice said on the other end of the phone.

“Pain? Who the hell still got a pulse?” he asked as he sat up.

“Nikki. We were arguing, and she dove down the stairs,” he said, sounding calm but worried at the same time.

“Hang up, we’ll be there in a minute,” Uncle Jimmy said and hung up. He called Murder as soon as the first call ended.

  “What up, Unc?” Murder answered.

“We gotta get to Pain’s house. Something went on over there. He just called me talking about her pulse is hard to find. I don’t give one solid shit about what y’all beefing about right now. We family, and we’re gonna act like a family. Just don’t trust that nigga around ya woman. Get your ass up and meet me there. Y’all can go back to being mad after this shit is cleared up. Call Allen too. I was about to get some coochie when that nigga called, so y’all will get there before me,” Uncle Jimmy said and ended the call.

“You don’t have time to play. You gotta go help those boys out,” Ms. Ella told him.

“Woman, let me do this. I didn’t take my pill yet, so it won’t take long at all,” he said as he kissed her neck.

She giggled but let her man have his way with her.

After the most intense ten minutes of his life, Unc
le Jimmy was headed to Pain’s house. He hoped that Murder listened to him and came to his friend’s aid. When he pulled up, relieved to see Murder and Allen’s cars parked in front of the house. As he walked up to the house, he got a little nervous because of how quiet it was. He stepped in to see all three of them standing over the pregnant body of Nikki.

“What the fuck y’all just standing around looking for? Is she breathing?” he asked.

“Yeah, barely, but she is,” Allen answered.

“Don’t move her. Call 911!” Uncle Jimmy said.

  “911 for what?” Pain asked.

“Nigga, don’t you see her ass on the floor? What the fuck do you think we’re supposed to do with her ass? We not doctors or nurses, so go get the damn phone,” Uncle Jimmy said.

“They’re gonna think I pushed her ass down the stairs,” Pain said.

  “Did you?” Murder asked.

Pain had forgot he was even there.

“No, and the camera will show it,” Pain explained.

“Then make the damn call. When the cops get here, show them the fucking tape. What’s the issue?” Murder asked.

“It’s gonna be a whole new scenario if y’all stand here and her ass dies. That’s two counts of murder, not one,” Uncle Jimmy said.

Pain pulled the phone out of his pocket and made the call. He then went to get the tape out of the surveillance room.

“Unc, we don’t need to be here for this,” Murder said.

“Call the lawyer and be quiet,” Uncle Jimmy responded.

Murder made the phone call like his uncle asked.

“Did y’all find her dad?” Allen asked Uncle Jimmy.

“Yeah, he’s here, but he’s not gonna make his presence known until the night of the party. All I have to say is, I hope the family is ready to hear what he has to say,” Uncle Jimmy said.

Allen gave him a head nod. He was low key wondering what type of secrets they had and how it would involve Nell. He just shook his head and hoped he wouldn’t have to come out of character again.

  “How’s Law doing?” Allen asked.

“Pissed that I just got home and had to leave again. She moved her appointment up, so it’s later today. She’s anxious as hell. I bet she took those damn glasses off while we were gone,” Murder said.

“Don’t talk about her like that,” Uncle Jimmy said and laughed.

“What if her being all fast holds up her progress? Then what you gonna say? She’s come a long way, and she don’t need to be fucking up now,” Murder fussed.

He hoped that Lawrynn hadn’t hindered her progress. She was just so damn hard headed sometimes. It was crazy. And then she’d stand there looking all slow in the face because she was being hardheaded.

The paramedics came in the door with a stretcher and a medical kit.

“Damn, them niggas don’t knock, huh?” Allen said with a chuckle.

“What happen here?” the paramedic asked.

“She fell down the steps,” Pain said.

  “What’s her name?”

  “Nikki,” Pain said.

“Nikki can you hear me,” he asked her.

She gave no response; she just lay there. The guys all looked at each other because they were sure she could hear what the man was saying, but she just didn’t want to respond. She was up to something; they just didn’t know what right now.

There was a knock on the door, and they all knew it was the police. Pain went to the door and braced himself for the foolishness that he knew was about to go down.

“Hello, sir, we got a call about a possible domestic situation going on,” the officer said.

Pain stepped to the side and let the cop into the house. The cop and Murder locked eyes on each other. Murder knew the cop as one who was not on his payroll. Being that he wasn’t in the wrong at the moment, he just didn’t give a fuck.

“Mr. Jackson, funny seeing you here,” the officer said.

“Why you not laughing since shit is so damn funny?” Murder asked.

“Do you know what happened here?” the officer asked.

“Nope, I’m late to the party, just not as late as you,” Murder said.

“Who knows what happened here?” the officer asked, finally taking his eyes off Murder.

“She jumped down the stairs,” Pain said.

“Which one of you assholes pushed her? Save all of us some time and just tell the damn truth for once. We all know she didn’t jump down the steps on her own. Who wants to speak up?” the officer asked.

“Nobody open your mouth. Officer, I will have you know, your supervisor is on the way. I nor my clients have anything to say to you. You can go sit in your car until your boss gets here,” Pauletta Schwartz, the attorney who Murder had on retainer said.

Murder smirked as he watched Pauletta in action. She was a cold bitch when she was in her element, and that’s why he made sure she was on his team. The best thing about her was she was a very proud lesbian. That meant he didn’t have to worry about her being intimidated by men or being fucked by them to sway her loyalty.

The officer didn’t go to his car, but he did stand to the side and wait for the supervisor to come. The supervisor came within the next ten minutes. He looked at the officer and pointed to the door. That was the officer’s cue to leave the house.

“Is there a reason you called me out here, Pauletta?” Jim Morgan, the officer’s supervisor asked.

“You’re one of the few officers I trust at your precinct, Jim. Don’t act like you didn’t know that already. I called you here because there is some surveillance footage I want you to see before we hand it over to your incompetent officers. This footage shows that my client told the truth to your patrol officer, who didn’t even entertain a word my client said,” Pauletta told Captain Morgan.

“Lead the way, and this better be good,” he said.

She was relieved that Murder had called her before Pain touched the tape. Being the kick ass lawyer that she was, she told Pain to leave the tape where it was. If he would’ve taken it out, the police could easily claim that the tape could’ve been tampered with. Leaving it in the machine gave the cops less wiggle room.

They got to the room, played the tape, and Pauletta waited for him to say something.

“I’ll bag the tape up. We still need him to come down and make a statement. We know you’re coming with him, so come on so I can get back to my wife,” he said and walked toward the front door.

  Chapter Fifteen

Laura and La-La rushed into the hospital. All the guys were in the waiting area shaking their heads. Those two were constantly putting a bad taste in everybody’s mouth. Everywhere they went, drama was sure to follow.

“Them rushing down here like they gonna do something is getting old as fuck,” Allen said.

He got up to walk out because he wanted no parts of the side show that was about to happen.

“No need to run, Allen, it’s not about you today,” La-La said with a smile.

“I ain’t running, you old ass bully,” he said to La-La while looking at her like he could kill her. She smirked at him like she was sure he wasn’t going to do anything to her. “One of y’all call me and let me know what’s going on,” Allen said before leaving.

“Which one of y’all gonna let me know what’s going on today? Since the girls have been messing with y’all, they spend more time in this damn hospital than the people who work here. Which one of y’all did it this time?” Laura asked.

“Why are you even here? Have you even checked on your daughter today?” Murder asked.

Laura rolled her eyes at him. He only chuckled and left it alone. She was gonna eat all her words and lies soon enough.

“I know she’s good. You didn’t answer my question, though. Which one of y’all put Nikki in here this time?” Laura asked.

“You two really need to get the fuck on with all that cackling y’all are doing. Every time you two come around, it’s always some shit. Just sit down like the rest o
f us and wait for the doctor to tell us what’s going on,” Uncle Jimmy said.

“Your old ass needs to get away from these kids anyway. I’ve never seen an old ass person who wants to be around a bunch of kids all the time. You not gonna get any younger, no matter how much young pussy gets thrown your way,” La-La said.

“I guess it’s a good thing he understands the importance of some good vintage pussy then. Ain’t that right, baby?” Ms. Ella said when she came in.

No one heard or expected her to come up there. She walked over to Uncle Jimmy and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Laura and La-La turned their noses up at Ms. Ella as if that would faze her.

“Hey, baby, did you bring what I asked you to bring?” Uncle Jimmy said, being sure to caress her ass with his hand.

“Yeah, I’m right here,” Kelvin said as he walked into the waiting area with all eyes on him.

Laura’s mouth dropped open as she took two steps back.

“What the fuck are you doing here?" Laura asked with a voice that was shaky but trying to be firm.

“You mean to tell me you’re not happy to see me. I had to find out what was going on with my daughter from two strange niggas knocking on my door. I expect that from you, Laura, but La-La. I thought we were better than that. Is that why you stopped calling me and letting me know what was going on with my baby girl?” Kelvin said.

“La-La, what the fuck is he talking about? Have you been talking to this clown ass nigga about my child behind my back? He ain't shit and ain't never been shit. You’re supposed to be my fucking sister. Fuck this nigga and his punk ass feelings. He don’t need to know shit about my damn child,” Laura said.

“You wanna keep secrets from me just like you wanna keep secrets from everybody else here, huh? Why you ain’t never tell Lawrynn about her sister?” Kelvin said.

At first, he was on the fence about coming there, but seeing Laura’s face was well worth it. Kelvin knew he had her ass, but he also knew she wouldn’t go out without a fight.

“Oh, that’s what you’re here for? You think you got something on me, well you don’t, with your smart ass. I only got one damn child, and I dare your pathetic ass to prove me wrong. My own sister can be my witness for that,” Laura said and looked at La-La.
