Supervisory Special Agent Chuck McVie was thrilled that two of his best agents had been instrumental in solving a pair of difficult cases.
Erica and Owens took advantage of McVie’s good mood by enjoying some time off around the Christmas holiday. Erica had also asked for a favor for someone else, one that had been granted once McVie was apprised of the man’s abilities.

Troy Carson arrived in Washington DC two days before the start of the new year and his reassignment to the Bureau’s main office. Thanks to Erica, Troy was transferred to Washington and would be given a chance to excel. The young man was thrilled and eager to begin work after the holiday break. He promised Erica that he would live up to her expectations. She believed him, and thought he might even turn out to be a rising star in the Bureau.

Brad Owens and Rhonda Wheeler paid a visit to the restaurant owned by Erica’s mother. Their waiter, Angel Alvarez, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
Erica had visited the restaurant several times since being back in DC. She and Angel had also gone out for drinks after he’d gotten off work for the day. On every occasion she had driven him home and they’d sat talking in the car.
On their fifth excursion to what had become their bar, Angel reached across the table and took Erica’s hand.
“All these trips out for drinks, does this mean we’re dating?”
Erica removed her hand from his, as she said, “No, it does not.”
Angel’s shoulders slumped, then his eyes became wide as Erica leaned across the table and kissed him. When the kiss ended, she smiled.
“That means we’re dating.”
Angel laughed as he scooted his chair closer to hers. “You’ve been on my mind for weeks.”
“Same here.”
“Why don’t we spend the day together tomorrow? Your mother gave me a rare weekend off.”
“I’d like that.”
They kissed again as Angel leaned in. The second kiss was longer and held more passion.
Erica grabbed her purse. “Let’s get you home.”
“Already? We just got here.”
Erica sent him a seductive smile. “I was talking about going to my apartment.”
Angel returned her smile, and they left the bar while holding hands.
