“Same as my mother’s too,” Addison said. “It’s a tradition.”

He rubbed Addison’s belly and smiled. “So I guess we’ll be using it on this little one if she’s a girl.”

  “She is a girl.”

He smiled. “Oh, really? You seem confident.”

“Gran knew about her before we did,” Addison said. “She told me I was going to have a girl.”

  “When?”

“The night of our wedding when we walked along the beach. I didn’t believe her at first because we had decided to wait. I thought there was no way I could be pregnant.”

“Are you disappointed it’s happening so soon?”

Addison shook her head. “I can’t wait to be a mother. You?”

“I don’t know why, but the timing seems perfect now, but surreal. We’re mourning the loss of a life while celebrating a new one at the same time.”

Addison bent down, placing a bouquet of white lilies in front of the headstone.

  “Ready to go?” he asked.

She nodded, and they turned, walking back to the car. A gentle breeze kicked up, and within it a voice as soft and sweet as a whisper, and she swore she heard a name—Amara.

  Amara Jane.

It had a nice ring to it.
