“Yes, I know about that. But where is my birth mother?” Julkaz’s voice displayed his impatience.
“I am searching, but my movements are limited as I’m now an enemy of Heilfelst.”
“Julkaz,” Heopsie cupped his chin, willing him to look at her. “I have loved you as my own son. That will never change, but I must leave at once.”
Heffun stepped forward, addressing Heopsie. “You cannot just leave without completing this conversation. We are all baffled by these revelations. We need answers!”
“Heffun, please,” she replied evenly. “I must return to my rightful place. In addition, I must regain all my memory if I am to find my own child.”
“What? You have another… I mean there is another child involved?” Julkaz’s voice raised a notch.
“I am struggling with this as well. Some of the memories are muddled, but I am certain I conceived a child during the time I was away from Xygor.”
Julkaz turned to Leonard. “Is this true?” The man nodded his assent. “You seem to have all the answers, why do you not tell us what we need to hear?” His displeasure was evident.
Leonard Styles stared intently at Julkaz. “I can’t do that. Heopsie’s brain is very fragile during this process. She must recall memories on her own or we risk a remission from which she may never recover. I may speak only of what she has already revealed a remembrance of.”
There was a long moment of silence, as everyone appeared to be absorbing the information relayed by both Heopsie and Leonard Styles. Herman was the first to move. Ariella noted the strange look on her father’s face as he turned to Heopsie, a look which she could not fathom.
“So you don’t remember your own child?” he asked.
Heopsie cast her eyes in his direction, shaking her head. “No, I cannot. That is why I must go to Oxilia.”
“Have you forgotten the shield?” Heffun asked. “No one may enter or leave. You can only travel between Xygor and Nabalar as the shield protects both planets.”
“The Oracles will allow my departure,” Heopsie said.
“They made it clear. No one would be allowed to leave,” Heffun reiterated.
“They will allow it,” Heopsie insisted.
Julkaz, who stood beside Heopsie with the most puzzled expression of all, started walking away. He paused briefly to look at the woman he called mother before moving through the group with long purposeful strides. He exited the main door of the palace, never once looking back.
Mirsux kissed Ariella’s cheek and whispered, “I will check on him.”
“Okay,” she turned, touching his cheek. “He needs you now.”
With a defeated look, Volnomy walked rather wearily to the podium, taking his chair with slumped shoulders. Heffun joined him, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“This is a lot to understand. What is happening in our world?” the king bemoaned.
“It is not the fault of Heopsie, or any of us,” Heffun said through clenched teeth. “Heilfelst is the cause of all of this chaos and confusion because of his greed for power!”
“You are right, Queen Heffun,” Leonard Styles agreed. “He thinks the blaerix is some object he can possess.”
“Is it not? I thought it was a jewel similar to the Diainspar.” Leaving Volnomy’s side, she moved towards the man.
Leonard surveyed the faces of all present. His gaze settled briefly on Ariella before turning back to Heffun. “I happen to believe otherwise, but I can’t say more. In any case, the child for which Heopsie searches is very important to this sector.”
“How important?” Herman interrupted, appearing quite troubled.
His attitude confused Ariella, but maybe he was just as baffled by all he’d heard as everyone else. Maybe that’s why he appeared so troubled. She walked over to him and took his hand. He clasped hers in both of his, squeezing it gently.
“Because of the child’s birthright and…,” Leonard Styles paused.
“And what?” Volnomy demanded. “Spit it out, human!”
“I’m sorry, King Volnomy, I can’t say more until the time has come when all will be revealed. For now, all I can do is search for the mother of Julkaz and take care of Heopsie until she fully regains her memory. Please forgive me.”
He stepped forward, facing one of the glass panels on the wall. Once there, Leonard traced his fingers in a hexagonal pattern. As the screen flashed on, the face of an Oracle appeared.
“Who dares to disturb us?” the face demanded.
“The Oxilian Queen needs leave of Nabalar and secret entry to Oxilia,” he said to the face on the screen.
“Mr. Styles. How dare you? You are a mere human. You have no right to demand conference with us or request of anything.”
“Please, Oracle, Oxilia depends on it.” Heopsie moved to stand before the monitor.
“Enough! We will interfere no more in these matters,” the oracles replied.
Pulling her hand from her father’s grasp, Ariella moved up beside Heopsie, taking the queen’s hand.
“Oracle,” she addressed them sweetly. “Can you not assist her one last time?”
“Ariella, you agree with this?” the spiritual being asked.
Ariella nodded. “Yes, I think she should be allowed to search for her child. No parent or child should be separated from each other. I never really knew my mother since I was a toddler when she died. Every child has a right to know their mother.”
After a moment’s pause, the Oracle replied, “Very well. We will assist you. But I must warn you, Heopsie, you may not find what you seek on Oxilia.”
“What do you mean?” Heopsie asked, perplexed.
“I cannot say more. This quest is yours alone.”
“I will also go with her,” Herman announced, surprising Ariella.
“Daddy, what are you saying?” she asked, turning to her father in shock. “You can’t leave. You just got here. And why would you go with Queen Heopsie?”
“There are matters I must attend,” he replied, his eyes darting to the queen and back to his daughter.
“I don’t understand.”
He caressed her hair and face, planting a kiss on her forehead. “I will return, my dear, but I must complete my mission.”
“Is there something you aren’t telling me?” she asked, gripping the hand that caressed her face.
He sighed deeply. “I will tell you everything when I return.” He looked up as Mirsux entered the great hall, alone. “Prince Mirsux,” Herman addressed the prince. “Please take care of my daughter until my return.”
Mirsux moved to stand beside his wife, placing a protective arm around her shoulders. “I will, sir.”
“Daddy, I don’t understand,” Ariella protested.
“You will understand in time. Know that I love you and that I will see you soon.”
As the oracle began to speak again, they turned to face the screen. “Very well. We will grant you leave and mask your craft. However, you cannot return for twenty-four cycles of the day orb.”
“Very well, Oracle,” Heopsie conceded. “Thank you.” As the screen shut off, she turned to Ariella. “I do not know what it is about you, but the Oracles favor you. They always listen to you. Thank you for speaking on my behalf.”
“That is because she is the one they foretold in their prophecy,” Heffun proclaimed, beaming with pride.
“I must take leave. I will be taking one of the crafts that came here from Xygor,” Heopsie said, moving towards the door. “I will make a stop in Xygor to pick up a few items I need. Come along, Leonard.”
The scientist fell into step behind Heopsie while Herman hugged Ariella. Kissing her hair, then her cheeks, Herman held his daughter in a tight hug.
“I will be back after the twenty-fourth cycle of the orb. That’s twenty-four planetary days, is it not?” he asked.
“Yes, it is,” Ariella replied, trying to choke back her tears.
Herman cupped her face, searching her eyes. “I love you.”
/>
“I love you too, Daddy,” she sobbed, flinging her arms around his neck and holding him close. Her heart broke in several places and her chest heaved as she struggled to suppress her sorrow.
“Are you coming or not?” Leonard asked from the doorway.
“See you soon,” Herman said, planting one last kiss on the tip of her nose.
As her father released her, Mirsux pulled Ariella into his arms. She watched in painful silence as he hurried towards the palace doors. Needing to see his every move, she went to the glass panel overlooking the yard.
She saw Heopsie being beamed into the craft, then Styles. As her father neared the craft, he stopped, turned and waved before walking into the light beam. Ariella watched the craft lift and float away, before whizzing out of sight.
Chapter 29
Although he had just left, Ariella missed her father so much her chest ached. After a long day of confusion and turmoil, she sank into a soothing bath drawn by Ubea. Then changing into her favorite sleepwear, a sheer shimmering gown that hugged her curves, Ariella sank into the comforting luxury of her bed.
Closing her eyes, she pictured her father, remembering his voice and promise to return after a month. She wondered what his mission was, although she knew he was not at liberty to discuss it. Still she yearned for answers. Most of all, his unsettled demeanor and the urgency with which he left Nabalar concerned her. She prayed for his safe return and the success of his mission.
She felt Mirsux’s presence even before he slid into bed beside her. His heat was strong, comfortingly seeping into her. Her eyes flicked open as she turned to face him, seeing her husband clad only in his shorts. His face was covered with concern.
“What happened with Julkaz?” she asked, trying not to think of her father.
“He went back to Xygor. I could not convince him otherwise.”
She sighed, as the thought of her father resurfaced. His sudden departure so soon after his release from prison, weighed heavily on her chest. Mirsux brushed her cheek with the back of his hand, trying to comfort her.
“He will be safe. The Oracles will protect the father of their favorite princess,” he reassured her, smiling.
The sincerity in his voice gave her hope and she believed what he said to be true. In response, she pulled herself closer to him, pressing her lips to his. It was intended only to be a light kiss of gratitude, but the wave of current that shot through her increased its intensity.
Mirsux pulled back, gazing into her eyes. She locked eyes with him, feeling the magnetic field swirling around them grow stronger. They both reacted simultaneously, closing the gap between them. His arms encircled her, pulling her close. Her breasts were crushed against his chest as his lips captured hers.
She parted her lips to allow entry of his electrifying tongue. A surge of current rippled through her, igniting her. She moaned in pleasure as his hand reached between them, gently squeezing one of her breasts flicking the nipple between his thumb and index finger.
Ariella did not want foreplay. She needed immediate attention. Her body was already charged and waiting be fulfilled. They hadn’t made love since before her departure to Xygor. With all the tension of the events and their brief separation, she needed to feel close to him.
With her hunger giving her strength, she flipped him onto his back, pulled down his shorts and then straddled him. Pulling her gown up over hear head, she tossed it across the room. Reaching down between them, she gently stroked Mirsux’s already erect member.
“Ariella, what are you doing?” he asked, struggling to restrain himself.
“What does it look like?” she murmured.
“Do you not want to talk about today?” he asked with a grimace.
She liked the way he was trying to control himself. She continued to caress his member with smooth loving strokes. He was breathing shallow and grimacing even more.
“We’ll talk later. I want my husband, now!” she said.
That said, raising her hips up a couple of inches, she settled onto his erection, gently sliding down the length of it. She moaned with pleasure as his member slid in, her walls closing lovingly around him.
He gripped her hips, thrusting his own hips upward, filling her. Their bodies moved in cadence to the mating dance as they rocked together in unison. A loud groan escaped her as her dam broke, her core melting like lava overflowing its volcanic banks. Soon, her husband roared from his own explosion.
The room illuminated as both Ysarks flared with a radiant light, temporarily blinding her. She heard, and felt, the explosion as energy from both weapons collided. The kindling of the Ysarks’ electromagnetic charges was greater than she’d ever experienced. The energy flowed into her, causing her to glow like a fluorescent light bulb. She felt the energy of her Diainspar as well as that of Mirsux’s. It was all encompassing and thrilling, yet quite frightening.
She took several deep steadying breaths as her body slowly returned to normal. When the energy finally subsided, she flopped wearily on top of Mirsux. His arms encircled her, providing both security and comfort.
“We are complete, Ariella,” he murmured against her hair. “Nothing can separate us now.”
“I know,” she murmured, raising her head to kiss his lips.
She knew what he said was the truth. She had seen the bright orb, and it wasn’t the one to light the planet, but the one that lit her own life. Ariella had not only awakened the Z’raschein of Nabalar, but Mirsux had awakened her Z’rascheus, her own signature power.
“When moon embraces sun, it emits new light,” Mirsux whispered the words of the prophecy. “You’re glowing, my beautiful moon,” he chuckled, teasing her.
“So are you, my handsome sun,” she teased with a light laugh while embracing him, fully driving home the true meaning of the prophecy.
The Diainspar jewels in both Ysarks flared, the flame renewed with the prophecy's fulfillment, a lasting symbol of the bond they shared and all it represented.
