When she leaned over and took him into her mouth, he groaned and grabbed her hair in his fists. She was surprised to find that he tasted good and answered with her own groan of pleasure. That was more than Calvin could take, gently pulling her back up to him, he kissed her. Then gently parting her legs, he slid between them, conscious of the slight swelling of her belly he stopped, worried.
“I don’t want to hurt you, sweetheart,” he said, poised to enter her, but hesitating.
“Oh, Calvin, you won’t hurt me,” she said, smiling at him lovingly. “I need you inside me. Please, make us one.”
Calvin could do nothing more than plunge himself deep inside her, finally feeling complete after weeks of longing for this very moment. He paused loving the feeling of her body accepting his. Their eyes locked, he filled her over and over again until he knew that his control was nearly gone, but he knew that she wasn’t quite there and he wanted to feel her body clench around his in that perfect moment.
Rocking back on his heels, he found her clit with his thumb and began to rub her in gentle circles until her eyes flew open. Brooke’s body began to tremble with the pleasure of Calvin buried so deep inside her and the motion of his thumb. Her senses stimulated from so many places became overwhelmed when Calvin sucked first one nipple then the other into his mouth. When her nails began to dig into his shoulders, and her body began to clinch around her, he drove himself into her. Deeper and deeper until with a cry, her body thrashed with an orgasm so powerful, she ground her hips into his pleading for his release as well.
As Calvin emptied himself into Brooke, his body vibrating with the incredible power of what she gave him, he saw a flash of their future together and knew that they would always be together. Instead of collapsing on top of her as he normally would have done, he rolled onto his back and took her with him. Trying to catch his breath he managed to say, “I love you, Brooke.”
Still breathless, Brooke replied, “I love you too and I want to go home.”
“Tomorrow, I promise,” Calvin said, pulling her even closer, before sliding into a hormone-induced sleep that lasted until morning.
When he woke in the morning, Brooke was curled around his back, the hard lump of her belly pressed against his back. He laid there for a long time just absorbing the idea that they were going to be parents; it was so new to him that he still couldn’t believe that it was true, but feeling the life pressing against his back made it a reality. Carefully rolling onto his back, he shifted Brooke until he could put his hand on the slight swelling, love bubbling up for the small life they’d created.
He must have woke her because when he looked up at her, she was watching him, love in her eyes. “Good morning,” she said, shifting a little so he could more fully cover the swelling and smiling at him.
“Good morning,” he said, kissing first her belly, then moving up to her mouth. “Are you ready to go home?”
Epilogue
Brooke sat in her favorite chair in the living room watching Calvin pace. “I wish you’d sit down and relax, he said he’d be back in plenty of time, he promised.”
Calvin turned to look at her. “I know, but what if he doesn’t beat this storm? He’ll never make it up the road.”
Brooke looked out the window to see that the snow had already begun to fall. “Stop worrying, the baby isn’t due for two more weeks. Carter will be here, he’s not going to miss this. Even you know how important this baby has become to him,” she said, rubbing her belly which was feeling especially tight that day.
Calvin crossed the room and knelt down next to her. “I’m sorry. I know I’m not helping, but I feel useless and all this waiting is driving me crazy,” he said, putting his head on her belly, then looking up at her when he felt a tremor go through her. “What was that?”
Brooke laughed. “Nothing but a little contraction.” Then when she saw the look on his face, she added, “It’s perfectly normal. I only have them every once in a while.”
He narrowed his eyes at her, but she seemed peaceful enough although he had no idea what she might look like if she was in labor. Silently cursing his brother who still hadn’t appeared, he went back to the window, relieved to see his brother’s truck coming up the drive. He met him at the door ready to give him a talking to for having them worried when Brooke let out a little cry.
They both rushed to her side, concern clear on both their faces. “Hey, what’s going on over here?” Carter said, kneeling down to look at Brooke, who had a pinched look on her face.
“Just a little contraction,” she said, smiling at Carter.
“Oh, yeah? And how many of these little contractions have you had?” he asked, gently.
“Enough that I’m glad you’re here,” she said, her body relaxing. She’d known for a few hours that she was in labor but hadn’t wanted to send Calvin into a full panic.
“How about we go upstairs and take a look?” Carter asked, helping her to her feet.
Calvin was staring at them, his mouth hanging open. “What’s going on?” he asked, then rushed to Brooke’s side to help her up the stairs.
“We’re just going to take a look and make sure everything is okay,” Calvin said, winking at Brooke, who was amazingly composed.
A few minutes later, Carter announced, “It looks like this baby isn’t going to wait for Christmas, I guess I was wrong.”
Calvin looked at Brooke, who only nodded her head then grimaced as another contraction hit her, this one stronger than any before. “I need to get a few things ready,” he said, leaving the room.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Calvin asked, smoothing the hair off her forehead when the contraction was over.
“I didn’t want you to panic,” she said, panting a little. “And you would have, don’t deny it.”
“I love you, Brooke, don’t forget that,” he said, taking her hand as the next contraction overwhelmed her.
Carter was more than prepared for this birth. He’d spend hours in the maternity ward and was prepared for anything, including a home birth which this had quickly turned into. Brooke was obviously going to be one of those women who gave birth quickly. When he came back into the room, it was clear that the contractions had progressed and after one more check he was sure that they weren’t moving her.
“Looks like we’re going to have this baby right here,” Carter said, smiling at both of them.
“Well, that’s fitting for the first baby born in Coldwater Canyon,” Marissa said, sweeping into the room.
“Now that my assistant is here, we’re all ready for our new arrival,” Carter said. “And just in time I think.”
Brooke bared down when Carter told her too, her body feeling like it was being split in two, Calvin holding her hand wishing he could be the one in pain. But then she felt the pressure ease and the baby slide out of her in a big gush. Panting, she immediately closed her eyes and said a quick thank you when she heard the lusty cry of an unhappy baby. Carter, tears in his eyes, laid the baby on her chest, as tears streamed down her face.
“You have a beautiful little girl,” Carter said. “And she’s perfect. Come over here, Dad, and cut the cord.”
With shaking hands, Calvin cut the cord to separate his daughter from her mother, who was exhausted but brimming with happiness. Marissa took the baby, quickly and efficiently cleaned her up, and wrapped her in a blanket and gave her to Brooke. “Looks like we’ve got a girl like Paige wanted. I can’t wait to tell her. She’s beautiful. Congratulations, you guys,” she said, tears in her eyes.
Later alone with their new daughter, Calvin couldn’t believe how lucky he was. They were all three in bed, the baby cradled in Brooke’s arms and Brooke cradled in his. “Have I told you lately how much I love you?” Calvin asked, pushing the hair back from her face.
“I love you too, Calvin. When I came here I was broken, but thanks to you I’m whole again. No better than that.” She laughed, her emotions too big to put into words.

; “And to think that this all started because you took a stranger into you home and saved his life. It just shows that when you least expect it, life gives you everything you wanted and you are everything I’ve ever wanted,” Calvin said, kissing her.
Brooke looked up at the man she loved, her heart filled with happiness and love for her new little family. “Once I thought I’d lost everything, but you’ve given me more than I ever could have hoped for.”
Before she could finish the sentence, the baby began to cry noisily. “Hope it was peace and quiet you were looking for because this one’s not going to let that be a part of our lives,” Calvin said, helping Brooke put the baby to her breast, where she began to suckle loudly.
“That’s okay, I think I’ve had enough peace and quiet to last me a lifetime,” Brooke said, kissing Calvin and thinking of the house full of children they wanted.
“Good, because I promise you that you’re going to get very little of that around here,” he said, laughing when what sounded like the whole canyon came through the front door, clearly in a celebratory mood.
“I guess it’s time for the first baby of Coldwater Canyon to meet her adoring fans,” Calvin said, taking the baby from Brooke and expertly burping her. “Are you coming, princess?” He turned back and offered her his hand.
“Anywhere you want me to,” she said, taking his hand, then smiled up at him and added, “For the rest of our lives.”

Chapter 1
"Hey! Hey, you! Black bitch!"
Carla Romaine heard the angry male voice but it took a few moments to realize it wasn't coming from her earphones. Taking them out, she slowed to a stop and turned, wiping the strands stuck to her forehead away. A huge man with black hair shaved close to his scalp and built like a wrestler was storming towards her, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. He looked like a European version of the Hulk with a vein protruding angrily from his temple.
Oh, great. Another angry man. Carla was used to seeing them and wasn't fazed. Her job involved dealing with irate husbands and angry lovers. But today she wasn't interested in having another confrontation; she had a lot to do and she was close to falling behind.
"I assume you're talking to me." She said calmly.
"Yeah." The man jabbed a finger at her as he got closer. "Yeah, I'm talking to you, bitch."
Carla sighed and glanced at her watch.
"You've got one minute before I carry on with my workout. I'm on the clock."
"Yeah." Came a sneer. "Always on the clock."
"Who are you and what do you want?"
"I'm Patrick Pisani."
Carla was good with names and she could remember every single case she had worked on. Having a near eidetic memory was a positive for her line of work. And she knew exactly who this man was.
"Christina's husband."
"Glad you remember me." Pisani's eyes narrowed, his face still red. "Seeing as you ruined my life."
"You cheated on your wife." Carla shot back calmly. "I only got the proof for Christina and she did the necessary actions. You ruined your own life, not me."
Pisani snorted rudely.
"My wife is too stupid for her own good. She would believe anything she was told." He jabbed a finger hard into Carla's chest. "You made her believe I was cheating."
Carla bit her lip and counted to five. She would let one touch go but if he did it again...
"Did I also ask your girlfriend to make sure you two were caught by my camera?" She quipped.
"You're a smart-mouthed cu..." Pisani snarled but Carla cut across him sharply.
"Stop right there, Mr Pisani. You call me that word and you're going to be having a nasty headache." She pointedly looked at his crotch. "And I'm not talking about the head on your shoulders."
For a moment Pisani looked taken aback. Carla guessed he hadn't been expecting for her to bite back and stand up to him. The man was a bully, especially towards women, and he used his size to his advantage. Carla had met bigger and tougher men who had cowered before her and she wasn't about to let him take her down. Then the surprise cleared and he chuckled without mirth.
"That's funny. Really funny. Threatening violence. Makes you feel good, does it? Threatening people with violence?"
"Only if you start calling me a See You Next Tuesday."
Carla had been brought up not to curse and even as an adult her mother would make her take confession whenever she let one loose by accident. Carla hated confession so she had schooled herself not to curse at all. It had stuck well into adult life. The word Pisani had almost called her was the worst, something Carla wouldn't go near even if she did curse.
Pisani folded his arms, his forearm muscles bulging.
"You like ruining people's lives, don't you?" He demanded. "You PIs have sad pathetic lives so you decide you can make everyone else's lives pathetic."
"You did that yourself. No one asked you to cheat." Carla glanced at her watch. "Time's up. Goodbye, Mr Pisani."
"I don't think so." Pisani grabbed at her arm as Carla turned away, his fingers digging into her arm. He pulled her close, his face inches away from hers as he spat in her face. "You'll be regretting what you did, you little..."
"Is there a problem here?"
Carla looked round and saw an Asian man jogging towards them, slowing to a walk as he reached them. Her heart stuttered. Oh, my. Taller than the average Asian male, jet-black hair sweaty and tousled on his head and long, sinewy muscles, this man seemed to exude something that had Carla unable to take her eyes off him. Dressed in a sleeveless red top with black running shorts and white sneakers, he was handsome.
Handsome enough that Carla's body started heating up. Her core tightened and Carla had to bite her lip as her inner muscles clenched. That wasn't an everyday occurrence. Carla had thought she was virtually immune to every good-looking man that came along.
Evidently not.
"No problem." She squeaked. She coughed and tried again. "Mr Pisani was just leaving."
"Mr Pisani was just having a conversation with Miss Romaine." Pisani countered,
his hand tightening on Carla's arm.
Despite herself, Carla winced. Then suddenly Pisani had let go and was stumbling back, a stunned expression on his face. The Asian man stepped between them, glancing at her for a moment. Carla rubbed her arm and nodded to say she was all right. The Asian man turned back to Pisani.
"The lady said it was ending." His voice was calm but Carla caught the underlying tone. He was daring Pisani to push it. "Get going, sir."
Pisani stared at him, looking him up and down. He scoffed and laughed.
"I've got a foot on you and probably more than fifty pounds. You really think you can get me to move?"
"How about seven belts in seven martial arts and three of them are black?" The newcomer countered calmly. "Do you really want to test that?"
Carla stared at his back. Did he really have those black belts? Pisani also looked doubtful. But when the Asian man stepped towards him his expression changed and Pisani moved away. Giving Carla one last glare, he turned away and walked off. Her rescuer turned to her and looked down at her, his forehead furrowed in concern.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine." Carla's arm still burned but it was a dull burn now. She raised an eyebrow at him. "Do you really have three black belts?"
Her rescuer looked slightly bashful.
"I've got three belts. They're not black." He spread his hands. "I'm not Jet Li."
Carla laughed. He laughed as well and Carla was stunned at how his whole face lit up. He went from simply handsome to devastating. There was a scar on his chin that looked like a childhood scar and his eyes weren't quite on the same level but that didn't deter any of his looks away. It just enhanced them.
Carla realized where her thoughts were going and coughed, stepping away and giving him a smile.
"Thanks for saving my ass. I've got to get going. My boss will have my hide if I'm late."
"Let me jog with you for a bit."
Carla was tempted. It meant spending more time in his company. But she was a realistic woman. This man was out of her league and there wouldn't be a chance with him.
