Shay stalked forward, mad all over again and confused by having Bane’s eyes on her back. On her mark.
The first step into the cooling water has Shay sighing at the feel. The next few steps have the water at her knees. She looks over her should once more, “Are you going to stay there and gawk, or come in?” She turns back around before diving into the chilly water, a smile on her lips.
TEN
BANE
BANE NEVER IMAGINED that he would be standing here, staring at Shay Silverton’s naked back, seeing for himself the God symbol on her smooth skin, when he initially decided to follow the twins earlier.
The girl that had been giggling and goofing off in the hall with her brother wasn't the same girl his father had warned him about. The same girl that had her hand stuck in the wolf King’s chest. No, this was entirely a different girl all together. A girl that pulled at his mischievous side.
Bane hadn’t planned on leading them to the lake, that wasn't what he had in mind. Honestly, he didn’t know what he had in mind when he decided to follow them, but he couldn't pull himself away from her, not quite yet. Now, standing on the bank watching her raise up out the water, he’s glad he followed them, she's magnificent. Her eyes blaze gold and set off her wheat color hair and caramel skin. Her soft lips look inviting and nimble worthy being plump,
“Are you just going to stand there?” Shay smirks.
Bane’s insides light up on fire. He smirks and slowly pulls his T-shirt off. He likes the way her eyes devour him from head to toe as he slowly pulls off his black jeans. He could get used to her attention.
He pulls off his socks and boots without taking his eyes off of her. This girl is supposed to be his. Yeah, he might have to share her with three others, but he can learn to deal with it. She’s put a fire in him that no other girl has accomplished so far.
He takes off at a run and cannonballs right next to Shay. Coming up from the water he throws his head back, tossing his soaking wet hair out of his face and looks at a giggling Shay.
A small smile forms on his face seeing her as happy and carefree as she was in the hallway with her twin. He is glad that he can bring that out of her. He hopes this carefree girl never goes away.
Bane splashes her lightly in the face causing Shay to squeal and turn her head away.
“Why did you do that?” Shay snarls Her eyes full and confused. She’s only ever interacted with her father and twin. Shay didn’t make friends as they moved around nor did she felt like socializing with anyone. Why would she? When she’s been hunted.
He swims closer, capturing a piece of Shay's golden hair and twisting it around his finger. Bane sees she's uneasy, but he ignores it, “You're beautiful,” he whispers.
Shay jerks back, her eyes narrow and, before he knows it, they’re in a water match. Playing, splashing and dunking each other.
Bane splashes Shay then dives under the water only to come up right in front of her. He wraps his arms around her waist and holds her to him, her delight echoing in the air.
“Okay, I give,” Shay says out of breath and resting her hands on his as they are hugged around her waist.
Bane watches as the carefree smile falls off her face and a nervous look shines in her golden eyes. Bane leans in slowly capturing her lips with his, pulling her bottom lip into his mouth and slowly sucks on it. Shay groans, prompting him to clutch her closer. Bane’s hands grip her small hips tighter lifting her up as her legs wrap around his waist. She sighs in his mouth as his tongue reaches out to tangle with hers.
He wraps one arm around her waist, pulling her closer as he deepens the kiss. His hand finds its way into her hair. A groan rumbles from his chest at the taste of Shay in his mouth.
They're breathing hard when they finally break apart. She stares at him with such innocence that it breaks his heart. How could they have hunted this poor girl for most of her life? How could they do that to someone?
He leans in once more, craving her lips, when a clearing throat pulls them from each other and towards the shore.
Asher Shade has his arms crossed.
Feeling guilty, Bane slowly releases her. The feeling of Shay gliding down the front of his body has him wanting to pull her to him again, but the jealousy and rage written across Asher’s face has him keeping his hands to himself. Bane knows one thing; the Wolf Prince is pissed.
Asher can't hide the growl from his voice as he speaks, “Both of you are wanted in the receiving hall.” He turns on his heel and stomps back towards the manor.
Bane runs his hand through his hair as he turns back towards Shay, wishing their time hasn't come to an end.
He notices the look in her eye and smile on her face, something dark and wicked is hidden beneath them. His pulse pounds. Now he can see what his father described. This girl before him isn’t the same as that who had been playing with him in the water. This girl is something else. Something other. Something to be feared.
He swallows hard as he watches her head turn to the side, her wet hair cascading over her shoulder, intense gaze locked onto Asher’s retreating form.
“Do you think he’s mad at me?” Shay asks quietly.
“Um...” Bane is at a loss for words. Of course, Asher is mad at Shay, she almost killed his father.
Bane jerks as she turns towards him, “Would you be mad?”
Bane nods keeping a wary eye on her. Where did the girl go that he was just kissing?
“I didn’t kill the King that should count for something.” Shay states.
Bane doesn’t respond.
Shay’s small shoulders shrug as she slowly stalks out of the water. He watches as she picks up her clothes and glides off towards the manor.
Fear scratches down his spine. There's something different, something dangerous about Shay, something primal. Bane now understands why his father told him to be careful. He understands why the Heads of the Clans are pushing for this match. Faders are dying, and they need to do something about it. Someone not born within their tight circle. Someone who is strong and can go beyond their ridiculous traditions. Someone who can save them all.
Shay is the answer.

Dark and gritty and an amazing piece of storytelling. -Amazon Reviewer
It all started with a virus four years ago. It unlocked a world of pure make-believe. It drove us down to our knees, and what we all believed to be pure genuine fiction escaped into the world - a nightmarish fairytale of vivid nightmares made of flesh and blood.
It didn’t take long for our world to go down in flames. Cities decimated. Family and beloved friend’s dead. Our society became dominated with howls, screams, bloodshed, and destruction. Blame rested on our heads for this
global carnage. Yeah, we were at fault for it.
A new society was born from the ashes of our own destruction - Lykens. Some humans chose to live within the territories, others within their own communities. Some run.
