He reaches for a condom out of his wallet. He tears the foil with his teeth, and before I know it, he is deep, and I mean deep, inside of me. “Oh, Heath, that feels so good.”
“You’re all mine now, understand? I love the sounds coming out of your mouth. Tell me you’re mine.”
“Yes, all yours, Heath,” I say as he thrusts in and out of me, making me feel better than I’ve felt in years. I can tell he’s getting ready to release. His body tenses and his groans become roars. I wrap my legs around his hips. He gives me one last thrust. Then his back arches, and he looks into my eyes. The look in his eyes is one that I’ve never seen before, not even with Seth.
“That was incredible. I’ve never felt like this before. You bring something out of me that I never thought I could feel.”
“I don’t know what these feelings are, Heath, but they feel wonderful. Thank you, for being you.” I kiss him. I text Abby to let her know I’m okay and that I don’t know when I will be back.
“I’m so glad you walked back into my life.”
He makes love to me again. This time is even better than the first time.

I pick my clothes, up off the floor. They are scattered across the room. Heath is lying in the bed, wearing nothing but a sexy grin.
“You know we’ll have to leave this bed to eat,” I say.
“I thought we could survive just kissing forever. How about I take you to breakfast?”
I kiss him. “Can I shower first?”
He mumbles against my lips, “As long as I can shower with you.” He stands up and lifts me off the carpet.
“Heath Mason, what are you doing to me?” I giggle as I wrap my legs around his waist. Shower sex it will be.
Chapter Ten
Heath
Alyssa is so fucking amazing. We ended up making love all night. We’re just now going to breakfast. I feel kind of bad that we left her sister alone all night, but it was, like, insta-fucking love. I’m so drawn to her. I have to have her.
I’m taking her to a small bakery on the beach for brunch. We walk in, hand in hand. She hasn’t stopped smiling since this morning.
“You like eggs, baby?” I ask, knowing some girls don’t.
“Yes, I do. You aren’t going to order for me?” She laughs.
I raise her hand to my mouth and kiss her fingers. “I will order for you anytime you want, sweetheart.”
She winks. “I like that.”
Once the waitress approaches us, I realize it’s Theresa, Jess’s friend. Great, just fucking great. I’m praying she doesn’t give us any shit. I haven’t told Alyssa everything about Jessika. I didn’t want to scare her away, but I’ll tell her everything as soon as I get a chance.
“Well, hey, Heath. How is Jess these days?” she says with a smile.
“I’m not sure. We broke up months ago. You know, when I found her in bed with my golf buddy?” She looks at me, shocked, like she didn’t know. “Can we just order already?”
She hasn’t liked me since I turned her down. She came on to me one night and swore she wouldn’t tell Jess if I fucked her, but I flat out denied her. So, since then, she hasn’t spoken to me much.
“Yes, go ahead.” She gulps.
“I want a cowboy omelet with the hash browns and wheat toast, grape jelly on the side. My girl here will have a veggie omelet with hash browns and wheat toast also,” I say with a smile. Alyssa is still just smiling at me.
“Okay, that’ll be right out,” she says as she turns and heads toward the kitchen.
“So, is there something I’m missing about this Jessika?”
“I promise, I’ll explain everything, just not here, okay?” I squeeze her hand.
“Whenever you’re ready.”
We talk while we wait for our food. Alyssa is smart, sexy, sophisticated, and independent. She is exactly what I need in my life. Once our food arrives, I realize neither of us has eaten since yesterday afternoon. I feel kind of guilty for keeping her in bed all night.
“How is everything?” I ask as I take a drink of orange juice.
“It’s wonderful. I’m ready for dessert.”
“I think I can arrange that. I was actually thinking about showing you the rest of the town and some of my other properties. Do you think Abby is okay?”
“I would love that. I’m sure she is. I’ll call her and see if she is okay with it.” She excuses herself and walks outside. I like that she has respect and class.

Alyssa
“Hey, sis. How are you?”
“I’m good. Just sitting here, reading. What’s up?”
“Not much. Will you be okay if I hang out with Heath the rest of the day? I came by earlier and changed and you were knocked out.”
“Of course. Mom called. They will be here sometime today. Yeah, I was exhausted because I talked to Brett all night. He was missing me and wouldn’t let me off the phone.” She giggles.
“Okay. Well, if you need anything, just call me. I love you,” I say before hanging up.
I owe her since she is the one that talked me into this. Had she not, I would have been sitting at home, looking through my cases for something to do while on my vacation.
I walk back in and notice that the waitress is talking to Heath. I’m not going to press the issue about his ex, but I’m curious about why this skank insists on throwing Jessika’s name out like she’s making a statement.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think we actually met. My name is Alyssa. I’m Heath’s girlfriend, and you are?” I ask with a smile.
“Theresa is my name. It is nice meeting you. You aren’t from here, are you?” she says, batting her eyelashes.
“No, sweets, I’m not. I live in New York City. Tell Jessika we said hello, will you?” I know I shouldn’t have, but hey, I can be a bitch.
“Oh, I’ve heard that’s a beautiful city. Will do. I’ll get your check,” she says awkwardly. Then she rushes off.
I wink at my man. “Sorry, I couldn’t resist.”
“No worries. She’s annoying. What would you like to do first?” He places his elbows on the table and looks at me.
“Well, what I would like to do is go back to that bed we left and ride you into dawn, but I want to see the town.” I laugh and see a smile spread across his face. Theresa sets the check down and walks away.
“Woman, you keep talking like that, I’m going to fuck you right here.” He chuckles. “Let’s go, baby,” he says, grabbing my hand.
“I may like that.” I wink
He kisses me. “Oh, would you now?”

We’ve been out all day. Heath showed me the town and every property he owned, and then we went to lunch. We also went to the boardwalk. It was beautiful. I love shopping at places like that. I got way too much stuff. He wouldn’t allow me to pay for anything. Every time I would reach for my wallet, he would step in and hand his card over to the cashiers.
I lean into his body. “I’ve had an amazing day with you.”
“You just don’t know how refreshing you are. I don’t want to leave you tonight. Are you sure you can’t come home with me, Lys?” he begs.
“I wish, but my parents are here. I really should spend some time with them tonight, and then I’m all yours tomorrow night. You can come and stay as long as you like tonight, though. It is your house, after all,” I say meekly.
“Would you be okay with me seeing your parents? It’s been years. Do you think they’ll be oaky with us?”
“Of course I’m okay with it. They’ll love you. Why do you call me Lys?” I’m curious because no one has ever called me that.
“I like it. It fits you. You know I’m the only one who calls you Lys, right? ”
“You’re right.”
“Good, that’s my name for you. Let’s do this because the sooner this night is over, the sooner I get to cuddle with you.” He grins.
“Heath Mason, you are a horn dog.” I laugh.
“A ho
rn dog? Really?”
“I know. Sometimes I say shit that makes no sense.”
He kisses my nose. “I think it’s cute.”

My parents haven’t met any of my friends since high school. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about them meeting Heath. We pull into the driveway. The first thing I see when we get out of the car is my father and uncle attempting to cook on the grill. There is smoke everywhere. I look at Heath and laugh.
“Hey, Daddy. You having some grill issues?” I ask.
“There is my sweet pea. How is—” His words come to an abrupt stop when he looks at Heath. For just a few seconds, he looks shocked, like he’s looking into the eyes of a ghost.
“Daddy, this is Heath Mason. You met him a while ago—as Aaron, though.” I motion my hand in front of Heath. “Heath, this is my father, Dr. Jack Sommers.”
“Heath, it’s nice to see you, son.”
“It’s a pleasure, sir. I never got to thank you for everything you did when we lost Seth.”
“I’m so sorry. His death was a tragedy for all of us.” He pulls me into his side.
“Daddy, this is Heath’s rental. He owns almost the entire city of Holden.” I smile. Then I hug my uncle. “Uncle Jim, this is my friend, Heath,” I say. “This is my uncle, Jim Sommers.”
“Nice to meet you, sir. Do you all like golf?” he asks. That was definitely the right question.
“Of course we do! I’m a tad bit better than my little brother here,” Uncle Jim teases.
“Maybe we can go on the course this weekend,” Heath says. He leans into my body and whispers in my ear, “Your dad and uncle’s names are Jack and Jim.” He laughs.
I elbow him and say, “Yep, and my other uncle is Jose.” After laughing at my family, I grab Heath’s hand and say, “Okay, I’m going to find Mom and Abby.”
Hopefully, my sister has filled my mother in on my new man. She loved Seth. I know she’ll like Heath too.
“Alyssa Danielle Sommers, bring your ass in here and let me see you,” my mom yells.
“Sorry, my mom is pretty blunt.” I say, a little embarrassed.
“Mom, this is—”
She cuts me off and all but yells, “Come here, Heath, give me a hug. I’m Momma Janet,” she says, squeezing him. “Your brother had a bright future ahead of him. We’re so sorry for your loss,” she says, wiping a few tears away.
“Thank you, ma’am,” Heath says.
“None of that ma’am shit. It’s Momma Janet.”
“Yes, Momma Janet.” He laughs.
“Your father and uncle are trying to get some meat going. Your Aunt Jean is napping. Would you like a drink, Heath?” she asks as she pours herself a glass of wine.
“Yes, that would be great,” he says.
“I’ll take one too,” I say.
“Here, baby. You take this one. Momma needs a beer.” She smiles. My mom is very loud and straight to the point. She was always a stay-at-home mom. She’s never worked, but she loves to throw parties.
“Thanks, Mom. Where’s Abby?” I ask, looking around.
“I’m right here,” Abby says from behind me. “I was giving you all time to get reacquainted. Brett will actually be here tonight. Maybe we can double date.” She winks.
“Sounds like a plan. I would like to go sky diving while I’m here.” They all look at me. “What? I’m a grown woman and have never been.”
“Baby, if you want to go sky diving, then I’ll go with you.” Heath wraps his arm around my waist. God, this man is perfect. Please don’t break my heart, Heath.
“I’ll go too. Not sure Brett will. He’s a pussy.” Abby laughs.
“Yeah, that’s him for sure.” Heath winks.
“Okay, kids, looks like the grill isn’t working, so we can have vegetables and wine or we can go out for dinner,” Mom says with her hands on her hips.
“Oh, Mrs.—Momma Janet, I’ll fix the grill. It’s fairly new. It may be the propane tank,” Heath says, walking toward the door.
“He is perfect, doll.” My mom hugs me. “He looks so much like his brother.”
“He’s amazing. I have to admit, Abby and Brett are wonderful for suggesting that we meet.”
“I’m so glad you think he is wonderful,” Abby says. “I knew you would like him. I didn’t know he was Seth’s brother, but I knew he was a good man.”
“It’s okay. We’re moving past that.” I think about Seth and smile. I’ve always wondered what he would look like now, how he would be.
“Okay, ladies, the grill is fixed. The tank was loose. The steaks and chicken are almost finished,” Heath announces.
“Oh, you are a lifesaver, handsome,” Aunt Jean says from around the corner. “Is this your handsome man I hear your momma in here giggling over?” She pulls Heath into a hug.
“Yes, this is Heath Mason,” I say. “Heath, this is Aunt Jean.”
“Very nice meeting you,” he tells her.
“Let’s get the other food ready. I’m starving,” Mom says.
Heath walks out onto the deck with the other men while the ladies prepare the food. Once everything is ready, the men come in and bring the rest of the food with them. We all sit together as my mom leads us through saying grace. I’m not sure how Heath felt about that, but he prayed right along with the rest of us.
After we eat, everyone goes to bed, and he and I stroll out onto the beach. The night air is amazing. I love looking at the ocean. I smile at the thought of making love to him in the sand. He must’ve guessed what I’m thinking about. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close.
“I would love to make love to you in the sand,” he whispers.
“How did you know?”
“Baby, I can read your thoughts.” He laughs.
“Can we get a quickie in, before you go?” I ask, hoping he’ll say yes.
He smiles. “Nothing with you will ever be a quickie, sweetheart. We can go back to our spot from last night.”
“Okay, but I have to be back tonight.” I giggle.
“Oh, I’ll get you back, but that doesn’t mean I won’t take my time with you.” He winks.

Today I’m going shopping with the ladies and the men are going golfing. I swear I don’t know what I’m going to do when this week is over. I’ve fallen head over fucking heels for this man. I’ve told him things I’ve never told anyone before. If he hurts me, I’ll kill him. Maybe, by then, Mal will have her law degree. I laugh to myself.
“So, how is he?” Abby asks as we walk into the bathroom at the mall.
“Who? Heath?” I ask.
“Yes, silly.”
“He is amazing, I swear. I’m sad that I’ll have to leave him. I know after the week we’ve had it will be hard having a long distance relationship.” I sigh.
“Oh, sweetie, you should just move here.” She laughs.
“I’m not leaving my place and my employer.”
“Please, you’re amazing. You’ll find a new job here.”
“Did he put you up to this?” I tease.
“Heavens no, I just like seeing you happy. Alyssa, I haven’t seen you smile this much in years,” she says, placing her arm in mine.
“He does make me very happy.”
“Seriously, you should think about it. I haven’t told anyone yet. Brett and I are moving here. I have an interview with the hospital on Friday.” She gleams
“What?” I laugh. “Mom and Dad are going to shit.”
“Yeah, well, they’ll get over it. There is a house over by Heath that is for sale. He owns it, so Brett is going to discuss it with him. Heath doesn’t know about it yet.”
“I haven’t seen his house yet. Is it huge?”
“Yes. I haven’t been inside, but the outside is huge.”
“I can’t just pack up and move because of a summer fling,” I say, knowing damn well I’m in love with this man.
She laughs. “Fling my ass.”
“You’re serious
. You really think I should move here, don’t you?”
“Yes, I do. Come on, it would be fun.”
“Abby, you have lost your damn mind.” I laugh. “You’ve been staring at too many feet.”

Heath
I’m golfing with the men and all the girls are shopping. After Jess, I said I wasn’t falling for anyone. Here I am now, falling hard for Alyssa. I don’t want her to leave, but I know our time is coming to an end. If I have to move to fucking New York to be with her, I sure the hell will. There is no way I want to go days or weeks without seeing her or kissing her.
I just don’t know if she feels the same. Hell, it’s only been a few days. I feel like I’ve known her a lifetime. We come from two different worlds. She’s used to the big city. I’m used to the ocean. One thing is for certain, we both have used sex as a way to forget our pain. We have both been broken. I need her to heal and she needs me. From what she told me, she hasn’t made love in years. That is all going to change. I’m going to be completely honest with her. I’m going to tell her that I’m in love with her. I don’t think I can handle the distance.
I decide to text her. I know I will see her tonight, but I miss her already.
Me: We need to talk tonight. Not sure of your plans, but I can’t go without seeing you for weeks at a time.
Alyssa: I’ve been thinking the same thing. We can discuss it tonight, if that’s okay?
Me: Yes, that will be great. I’m showing a house tonight, you want to join me?
Alyssa: Yes, sounds fun.
Me: See you soon, baby.
Alyssa: Not soon enough. Skydiving tonight!! Right?!
I bet I look like a fucking school boy with his first crush. I slide my phone back in my pocket and see Brett staring at me. I’ve known this dude half my life. I know exactly what he’s thinking.
