by Jamie Magee

“I think they can sense you. Send them an emotion.”

  “An emotion?”

“Yeah, I feel my mom. She told me she was proud, her emotion did. I told her I loved her, and I felt her emotion spark, like she heard it.”

I turned her into me, blocking out the crowd that was rejoicing. Carefully, I pulled her chin up. My eyes moved across hers, still not able to comprehend the beauty there. I leaned in and kissed her softly at first, but then deeper, pulling her against me.

“I want them all to feel this. To be this happy.”

I would have thought it was impossible, but the crowd grew louder.

I started to take a silent inventory of what I knew and what I didn’t know as I held her before our world. I knew the other kings were alive, that they were not in agony; so were the girls they loved. I knew from the thoughts of my warriors that they had fought an energy flow of those explosions. And sadly, my childhood escape had perished; it was now given to the dead. Our borders between here and Esterious had thinned, but I lost no soldiers. I knew from the emotions of my people that thus far, no couples had parted ways. In fact, no other Flames had risen, even though it had been nearly a week since Willow and I both vanished into the sacred water.

From what I could see, our people stood by and watched a hurricane but felt no wind. They never grieved or felt anxious, for they trusted our love, more than we trusted it. The palace appeared hours later when the wind settled, but we never emerged. Still, they worried not. They trusted us to rise and lead them.

I knew that we had prevailed past another trial, but more awaited. And in those trials, I would be tested, just as Willow. But I also knew that through dark and bright times, we would prevail one way or the other. We were too stubborn to fail.

I knew the woman I loved was restored. Her insights were back and in balance. I knew that she completed me. Always had, and always would. I loved her.

“I love you,” she thought as she lifted her arms to pull me closer. I smiled against her lips, knowing she was in my mind then. She knew what I thought was ahead, and she showed no fear. I let her take my breath away once again before the dimension that we created with this love right here.

  About the Author

Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she’d never been, introduce her to people she’s never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.

The fun Bio: I’m an obsessive daydreamer. Lover of loud alternative music. Addicted to Red Bull. I love to laugh until it hurts. Fall is my favorite season. Black is my favorite ‘shade.’ Strong believer in the saying: there is a reason for everything, therefore I search for ‘marked moments’ every moment of every day...and I find them. Life is beautiful!
