by Kathryn Moon

A little bit of tension leaked out of my shoulders. I knew what it cost Isaac to offer, but I would need him if I had to go North. Joanna would need us all if she had to meet my father.

Joanna was calling from the shower, not for us but for release, and Isaac’s attention shifted, a dark smile replacing his frown.

I flicked my hand and the letter vanished. If I was lucky, I would forget it ever arrived.

Isaac pulled his shirt over his head. “Come on, Aiden looks like he could use a hand.”

I snorted. Aiden seemed to be fine. It was Joanna that was begging. I started to strip.

I didn’t want to think about war or monsters, and my father crossed both categories. I just wanted to lose myself in the touch of my coven for another day. The book I’d been carrying dropped to the floor with my pants. I would tell Joanna about the Scribes after.

Isaac was walking into the shower, steam billowing out from the glass door, and I followed quickly. Joanna reached for me, face tangled with pleasure and frustration, and I banished my worries with her kiss.

  Acknowledgements

Endless thanks to my family and friends for listening to me obsess and fret since the day I started this project. Your support and patience has meant the world to me. Mom, I won’t let you read this in its entirety but I love you so much and I hope to be half as awesome as you someday.

Thank you to my beta team; Megan, Polly, Krysti, Rachel, Maria, Britts, Carmen, and my fellow Kathryn! I appreciate all your help in shaping and polishing that early draft!

To BloomBloomBoomBoomBBNut, you’re a one woman cheering squad and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found you! You’re so talented and I can’t wait to buy all of your books and fangirl over them. Love you, bb!

Ariel Bishop, the incredible artist who made my gorgeous cover and helped me with promotional graphics! What you do is magic, end of story.

To the amazing writing squad who answered incessant questions from me and witnessed an embarrassing amount of whining. Dresupi, Pink, Dizzy, Cherie, Stancey, and Aenaria, thank you so much for bringing me into the fold.

Britts. Lady. This would not have happened without you. Thank you so so so much for the nudge and all the help and back-up and cheering you gave along the way. I hope to repay it tenfold.

Karen Dailey and Sara Box helped me edit and polish this book and they were probably gentler than I deserved but I hate to think of what you might be reading if not for their help. They are amazing women and I am a lucky duck to know them.

Hey Waffles. If it weren’t for you I would probably be staring at a blinking cursor right now waiting to finish this book. Thank you for the pompom waving and the dirty inspiration. Thank you for being The Actual Best ™ no exceptions. Oh look it’s in print now, so you can’t argue. Ha! I love you.
