Dancing With Devia Page 19

He shaded his eyes from the sun and watched the car getting closer. It was a silver convertible. A Mercedes.

He felt the tears well up in his eyes, and he quickly removed them, with the back of his hand. It was Venia, and she was waving as she got closer. She stopped the car, and ran to him. He picked her up and hugged her, kissing her with every ounce of passion he had. They kissed in sight of the prison, and a few guards whistled in approval, from their tower posts.

“I’ve come to take you home.” She said smiling.

“Thanks.” He said gruffly; his voice thick with emotion.

He got in the car and together they drove back down the dirt road. The dirt road to freedom and his new start in life, with the woman he truly loved.

  Six months later.

The same Minister, in Las Vegas, stood before them and began to speak.

“Dear friends and family, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the union of Julian and Venia in marriage.” He continued speaking.

“Today, as we create this marriage, we also create a new bond and new sense of family - one that will undoubtedly include all who are present here today.” He looked at them seriously. “ You enter as individuals, but you will leave here as husband and wife, blending your lives, expanding your family ties, and embarking upon the grandest adventure of human interaction. The story of your life together is still yours to write. All those present have come to witness and celebrate your love and commitment this day - eager to be a part of the story not yet told.”

He paused and looked up to see if any police were arriving. Seeing none, he continued.

“Do you Julian, take Venia to be your lawfully wedded wife, promising to love and cherish, through joy and sorrow, sickness and health, and whatever challenges you may face, for as long as you both shall live?”

“I do.” Julian grinned at her.

The Minister looked at her .

“And do you Venia, take Julian to be your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love and cherish, through joy and sorrow, sickness and health, and whatever challenges you may face, for as long as you both shall live?”

  “I do.”

“You may now exchange rings. Repeat after me… With this ring, I thee wed, and with it, I bestow upon thee all the treasures of my mind, my heart, and my hands. With my body, I thee worship. With my heart, I thee cherish. Would all that I am, I give unto you. Would all that I have, I share with you. From this day until forever done.”

They exchanged rings and repeated the words to each other and smiled throughout, both joyous to be getting married.

“And now, by the power vested in me by the State of Nevada, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. Julian, you may kiss your bride.”

They kissed passionately, as their friends and family applauded. They turned to them all and smiled. She looked radiant and Julian was so happy.

The Minister spoke again. “Family and Friends, may I present to you for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Mansell.”

As they walked back down the aisle together, Julian lean ed in, and said jokingly.

“How do I know it’s really you, Venia?”

“You don’t…” She replied, with a small smile.

  The End.
