And now here they were at her first meeting of the Rakes.
“I’m very nervous,” she said.
“I would be shocked if you weren’t,” he said. He kissed the tip of her nose and said, “I will be with you the whole time, my love. No one will hurt you. If, at any time you lose confidence in what is happening, all you have to do is let me know.”
“Thank you, Andrew,” she said. “I love you.”
“And I you.” One more kiss to the tip of her nose, that Clarissa wished had been on her mouth, and they went inside.
Clarissa was shocked to see several well-known dukes and lords milling about. Their wives were also in attendance. There were also single ladies present, all of them widows. The ladies were all wearing a very lacy under garment, cinched in the middle by a corset that pushed their breasts up high. The under garment was completed by a pair of lacy leggings.
As one lady passed her by, Clarissa could see an opening in the back that would bare the woman’s bottom.
“Sometimes the ladies wear only robes, or go naked,” Charlotte said, coming up and hugging Clarissa. “It used to be the ladies were mostly naked, but many of the ladies are too modest to be so exposed, so we designed these outfits to show off our figures, and leave our backsides bare for activities.”
“Thank you for the explanation, Charlotte,” Clarissa said. She herself wore a peach nightdress made of see-through material that she’d bought in Paris.
“We had one made for you,” Charlotte said. “You can take it home with you and perhaps wear it next time.”
Clarissa nodded and said thanks again. Charlotte left with Dalton. Clarissa kept tight hold of Andrew’s hand and gaped at the many people. She supposed it wasn’t that many, only thirty or so. But it seemed as if she knew them all.
“I never knew there would be so many people. That’s the Duke of Salisbury, The Duke of Cheshire, Lord Graham, and Lord Shaw. And over there are the Duke and Duchess of Wickham. And I noticed several prominent widows. How has something like this been kept a secret?”
“Simple,” Andrew said. “We all respect each other, and we respect each other’s privacy. We all enjoy the Club and would do nothing to harm our friends, or our activities.”
From the center of the room there was a loud knocking noise. Clarissa turned to see Buxton knocking two sticks together.
“If I may have your attention, please. I would like to unveil my newest invention, and invite five lovely ladies to be the first to try it out.” He laughed and shook his head. “Actually, only four ladies. Carin has already volunteered to be in the first group.”
He pulled a cloth away from a large dais. Five chairs were placed around the platform.
“This platform spins around. The gentlemen sit in the chairs and the ladies stand on the outside, blindfolded. When the platform stops moving the gentleman takes whichever lady is closest across his lap and spanks her. When the music starts again the ladies are placed on their feet and the table moves again. Loud applause filled the room and Clarissa fought to hide a smile.

When they were blindfolded, Ellington silently selected five gentlemen from the crowd: The Duke of Wickham, Lord Cannonberry, Lord Barton, Lord Essex, and the Duke of Cheshire. The men settled into their seats and the machine began to move. Laughter filled the air when the machine stopped and the ladies were hoisted up onto laps. He took her hand and led her to where an apparatus made of boards had been set up. It had a pulley system in the center, and Clarissa knew that, if not tonight, at some time in the future she would be hanging from the center.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Andrew said. He laughed when several yelled out, “Yes, Your Grace?”
“I would like to present to you my wife, the duchess. We have been practicing rope play, and we would like to do a demonstration tonight.”
These words were greeted with applause.
“Clarissa, if you will stand here.” He pointed to a spot right in front of the apparatus. Clarissa did as he asked. She took a deep breath as he’d taught her to do, and he started the game, wrapping the ropes around her waist and her breasts.
