Cars lined the circular drive when they pulled up. Brenda couldn’t wait to introduce her father to everyone. They saw Hope and David Williams first.

“Hope and David are Allie’s parents,” she explained. “You’ve had some of Hope’s delicious sweets from her bakery.

“I won’t forget those sweet rolls,” Tim said as he shook their hands. “Your young daughter is a gem. She has put up with me since I arrived, and that hasn’t been an easy task.”

Hope gave Brenda a quick hug before they moved on. “I’m so glad for you,” she whispered in her ear.

“We were beginning to think you two had eloped and left these wonderful Thanksgiving festivities to the rest of us,” Pete Graham said. Everyone turned to see who he addressed. Phyllis’s face flushed, and William responded with a hearty laugh.

Molly Lindsey stood close to Pete. “You shouldn’t tease like that, Pete. We are honored to be here at the feast, William. And we can’t wait for your big day.”

“Remember, there will be two big weddings,” Pete said.

Talk moved to the weddings. William and Mac looked at one another and rolled their eyes good-naturedly, leaving the women to excitedly go over every detail.

Brenda moved on to greet her friends, one after another. Then she carried her pie to the kitchen, where a massive array of desserts and pies awaited on a table.

“It looks like there will be more than enough,” Brenda said in awe.

The chef smiled. “Right now, it looks that way, but with the way Mr. Pendleton keeps inviting more guests, it will all be gone by the end of the night.” He thanked Brenda for her contribution and she headed back to the party.

By the time dinner was served, Brenda had met several new people she had never seen in town before. Apparently, William had invited those closest to him in the arts world, too. Everyone had fascinating things to talk about and she was happy to be surrounded by the conversation and warm laughter of everyone she loved. She often looked at her father. He was in his element and if there had been snow outside, he would have pulled everyone out there and distributed sleds to them all.

“Does it ever snow in Sweetfern Harbor?” he asked David Williams, who sat next to him.

“It snows, but not like you have back in Michigan.”

  “That’s a shame,” Tim said.

Brenda and her father exchanged wide smiles. She looked around the room, her heart swelling with gratitude. She had family, she had love, she had Sweetfern Harbor. What more could she ask for? Brenda leaned her head on Mac’s shoulder and sighed contentedly.

  “I love Thanksgiving, Mac.”

“And I love you, Brenda Sheffield.”
