Cross My Heart Page 3

by Jaime Russell

I walk down the stairs with my boots in my hand, and then sit down in the brown, leather recliner with my mama’s topaz crochet blanket on it. We all saved the quilts that she made, and they are all over the house.

“I can’t believe we’re going out on a work night,” I snicker at Tucker. He’s usually all business during the week.

“Hey, we can call and cancel,” he smirks, but I know he’s full of shit. I think he has a thing for Maddie, but I’m not one hundred percent sure, though. We head out to Wes’ black Range Rover, since he doesn’t do a lot of drinking anyway.

Me: Hey. Is everyone in the room?

Charlie: Waiting on Macy per usual.

Me: We’re heading there now. It’ll be about thirty minutes.

  Charlie: Sounds good.

I put my phone away, seeing the guys staring straight out of the Range Rover windows. “What’s up?” I ask.

“Work stuff,” Wes comments. “I saw your list of repairs. We might have to hire some outside workers to help.”

“I’ll talk with Karen tomorrow about it. Tuck, can you do the supply run, and take Charlie with you to shop for food?” I ask, as he turns in the front seat and stares at me.

“I would love to do it, but I’ve never done the food run. You’ve done it with all of the chefs for the first month, until they get caught up on things. Besides, she doesn’t want special treatment from me.”

“And there it is.” Tuck laughs, and I punch his shoulder.

“I’m happy for you, but I can’t believe the girls lied about being in Austin, though it’s going to be fun having them close by,” Wes comments, as he pulls into a parking spot next to the U-Haul.

“Do we seriously have to help unload this box full of shit? Charlie’s cookbooks are heavy. Why did you have to fall for a smart girl?” We all laugh, remembering that it took all three of us to load four boxes of her books onto the truck. Oh, well. It was worth it.

Getting out of the vehicle, I notice the hotel is nice looking. The colors are white, gold, and brown. The three of us walk in together, and the women start to look around at us. Tucker and Wes smirk, as they nod at them. When we get into the elevator, we all laugh. It never gets old.

We get off on the fifth floor, and then turn left, going down a few doors to find Charlie’s room. The laughter coming from inside makes us all smile, as Wes knocks.

“Maddie, get the door. I ordered more whiskey, since we kind of emptied this one.” I hear Charlie chuckle, as the door swings open.

“Did anyone order three sexy cowboys?” We say in unison, as the girls squeal and lunge at us. We finally make it into the room, and I make my way to Charlie, kissing her like I haven’t seen in her months.

“How did you find us?” Dana asks.

“Funny story actually. The guys are my bosses. They own the ranch,” Charlie tells them. “We decided to surprise you gals. It was a shock seeing this man this morning,” she says, showing her burn.

“So, cowboys. Where are you taking us?” Maddie asks, standing with her hip out and arms crossed. She’s not wearing her wig, and she has short blonde hair, which is like Charlie’s, but it comes to her chin. When they stand next to each other, they are almost identical.

“I figured we’d take you to our favorite steakhouse, and then we can go from there. We can’t be out late, because we do have an early morning.” I tell them, as the girls grab their phones and IDs.

“This weekend…” Charlie starts, going over to the desk in her room and pointing to a flyer. “We plan on going here.” It’s the country line dancing place. I groan because I hate line dancing. Charlie just smiles and bats her eyelashes.

“Yeah, I’ll take you.” I give in without much of a fight. I grab her hand, so we can get going. We all head out, walking to the elevator, as I ask, “When are you moving in?”

“We’ll be coming with Charlie tomorrow to start cleaning it. Can we paint?” Dana asks.

“I don’t care,” Wes tells her. “But please remember that you might not live there forever, and we’ll have to repaint it.”

“Wes, I plan on living near you forever and ever,” she states, changing her tone to annoying sister stalker, which makes me giggle. Macy links an arm with him, and he tries to get loose from her, but she just grips harder.

“Macy, you drive me nuts,” Wes grumbles.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet, baby. Buckle up and get ready for the ride.” I laugh, but I try and cover it up with a cough. I’m going to love this, and enjoy the torture for Wes, because of his shyness.

As we all step out of the elevator, the women are still in the bar area staring at us, and I have Charlie’s hand in mine. Macy is gushing over Wes, which he’s trying to push her off of him. Tucker nods at them and winks, which makes one of them moan, as Charlie rolls her eyes.

“Does that usually happen with you three?” Maddie questions, staring at the women.

“Yeah. We’re good looking men. Who wouldn’t want this?” Tucker swipes his hand up and down his body, as Maddie makes a gagging noise. “Shut up. If you could get with this, you know you would be jumping me.” Maddie stands in front of him with her arms crossed pushing her breasts up out of her tank top some, and Tucker swallows hard.

“Your blowup doll is the only one that would want that,” she says, running her hand up and down Tucker’s body. “Or did you pop it?” Charlie laughs loudly, not even trying to cover it up.

“Maddie, are you thinking about my cock?” She stops laughing, and then stares at him. She’s at a loss for words.

“I’m starving. Let’s go,” Wes says, picking Maddie up, throwing her over his shoulder, and then carries her out like that, as we all follow them. We get into two separate cars, and I end up riding with the girls, since they don’t know where we’re going.

The car ride is actually fun. The girls talk about how they spent their day by the pool, trying to make Charlie jealous, but she just smiles.

“I got to hang out with a bunch of cowboys.”

“The Livingston brothers don’t count,” Maddie states, rolling her eyes.

“Oh, I’m not talking about them.” Charlie wiggles her eyebrows into the backseat, as they giggle, like the girls from high school. I sigh, as the girls start asking Charlie a bunch of questions. I pull into the parking lot of the restaurant, and we get out of the car. The girls all walk in together, as I join my brothers.

“Those girls are crazy. You should’ve heard them. They were quite interesting,” I tell them, as the girls stand there waiting for us. When I walk closer, I pull Charlie into my arms and kiss her. “I love that I can do this now.”

“Your table is ready.” The red-headed host in a black dress says, as we follow her to our table. They put two tables together, so we could all fit. As we sit down, we start to look over the menu, waiting on the server to come.

One of the reasons that I like this place is the decor. It’s country, but towards the back of the restaurant, is a bar that’s set up like the Coyote Ugly bars. It’s a great hot spot for the young crowd. We’re here almost every weekend, if there isn’t a lot of work to do the next day. It’s definitely one of our favorites, and I can’t wait to show the girls all of our hotspots.

Charlie lays her head on my shoulder, and I kiss her forehead. I close my eyes, taking in the sounds of my brothers laughing, and the girls talking fast to them.

  “You okay?” I ask her.

“Yeah, I’m just tired. It’s been an emotional roller coaster day.”

“What do you mean?” I ask, looking into her eyes. I hear someone clearing their throat, standing at the head of the table. I look up to see the waiter standing there looking quite awkward. “Sorry, man.”

“It’s okay, sir. Can I start you out with your drink orders?” We all go around, ordering our drinks and appetizers.

“This weekend, we need to have a welcome to the ranch BBQ,” Tucker speaks up, and as he talks, the red-headed server walks past our table. His eyes foll
ow her all the way to the back of the restaurant, where she picks up food. He never takes his eyes off of her, until the blonde with perky breasts catches his eyes. The waiter is still standing there waiting for Tucker’s order, so Maddie decides to help him out.

“He’ll have the fried chicken. Can you make sure he gets a breast, thigh, and leg? He seems to be breaking his neck for those pieces now. Also, can I get a glass of water with lots of ice please?” she says, smiling sweetly. Charlie, Macy, Dana, and Maddie all look at each other, and Charlie and Maddie seem to be having a conversation with each other without saying a word.

  Charlie

This closeness to Rhett is making me nervous. I don’t know what it is, but I’m starting to question if maybe he doesn’t like who I am. We have this amazing chemistry, but it was also supposed to be a one-night stand. But something happened to my heart, when I looked into his eyes that first night he came into the restaurant. I roll my eyes, as Maddie orders for Tucker. I love the bond that Maddie and I have, because we’ve learned to talk with each other with our facial expressions, and never say a word.

I raise my right eyebrow at her. “Behave, Maddie, please.”

She leans in with a smirk. “Please let me have some fun.”

I tap my nose. “I like this guy.”

She rubs her nose. “I know, but Tucker is so entertaining!”

My eyes go wide. “Yes he is.” I side eye Rhett, who is watching Maddie and me. “If I get fired or he hates me, I’ll kill you.” I pick up the knife.

She makes a sour face. “Chill out.”

Maddie smiles a big smile, showing teeth. “Oh look, here comes dinner. Let the games begin.”

We laugh aloud, drawing attention to ourselves, while Dana and Macy stare at the knife in my hand, and then to Maddie with a smile. They shake their heads, as they quietly chuckle into their hands.

“Are you going to let everyone in on the secret?” Wes asks, leaning into me.

“What secret?” I say, coughing on the water that I just started to drink. “I’m sorry what secret are you talking about?”

“What you and Mads were just talking about, but do you have another secret?” I shake my head no fast, which makes Wes look to all four us, and then he mutters to himself. Tucker’s been texting the whole time, after watching the waitresses, but every so often, he looks up to stare at them.

“Is there anything else that I can get you?”

“When the hell did we order?” Tucker’s voice booms, and we all laugh.

Maddie being Maddie leans into him, “When you were looking at…” She holds up the chicken. “Breasts, thighs, and legs.”

Tucker tilts his head at her. “Are you drunk?”

“Nope. I’m sober.” Maddie smiles, as she cuts into her rare steak and sex moans, as she eats it to drive Tucker nuts. “Oh, my God, Tuck. I can’t believe that you didn’t get the steak. It just melts in your mouth.” He grumbles, as he stares at her plate.

“I wouldn’t,” I try to state, but shit hits the fan.

“Mother fucker! Holy shit!” he’s states, as Maddie has an ice-cold glass of water in her hand, knowing that he will try and come for the steak. As he leans forward to grab the plate, she slowly moves the glass to his crotch, and then dumps it. The ice melted, so the water is probably freezing.

“Oops.” Maddie sucks her lips into her mouth, trying to hold back a smile, but Tucker isn’t amused. “Here’s my napkin,” she sweetly says to him, holding it out.

“Does this white flag mean you surrender?” Tucker asks, bending over staring at her eye to eye.

Maddie shakes her head no. “Baby, this is just the beginning.” She blows a kiss to him, as I sigh.

“Get ready for a war,” Tucker seethes. He gets up from his seat, while the whole restaurant looks at us, and I feel so embarrassed right now. “Let’s go. I’m done.” Wes stands up looking confused.

“Guys, the food just got here. Are you not going to eat it?” Dana asks, as they sit back down. Maddie switches her plate with Tucker, but he moves to the other side of Dana, who slides down one. We eat in silence, and I give Maddie the death stare.

I hate pranks, and she knows it. After a bit, I excuse myself from the table, walking toward the bathroom.

“Carlos, where’s the ladies’ room?” I ask our waiter, and he points down this dark hallway. I smile at him and continue walking, getting some time alone to think. The hallways show a lot of pictures of customers with whom I’m assuming is the owner because he’s in every one of them. I stop in front of a picture of The Livingston boys, and I can’t help but smile. I walk to the ladies’ room and knock on the door. It’s free, so I step in and shut the door to lock it. I hold onto the sides of the sink, as I take a deep breath, lifting my head to see my reflection in the mirror.

I hear a knock on the door, and I yell that I'm here. “I know, let me in,” Rhett says, and I smile, as I open the door.

  “What do you want?”

He comes in, shuts the door, and leans on the door, grabbing my hips. I can tell by the look on his face that he wants me. “Not here, not tonight.”

“Why not?” He starts to kiss my neck, and I close my eyes. “Charlie, I’m so glad you’re here.” I close my eyes, taking in his woodsy smell, while getting lost in his touch.

“Stop.” I come to my senses and push him away. “No sex in the bathroom.” Rhett snuggles up to my ear and whispers please. My body is saying yes, but my head is saying no, and right now, my body’s winning the internal battle. “Rhett,” I moan, as we kiss, him leading me to the sink, as he lifts me up.

“God, I want you so bad.”

“Take me, please,” I say, moaning into his mouth. We make haste with our clothes, and I lean down and bend over, holding onto the sink, waiting for Rhett. He kisses down my spine, as he grips my hips. He slams into me, and I squeal. I love the feel of him inside me.

He starts moving in and out of me at a fast pace, and I’m doing everything I can not to go flying head first into the mirror. I watch his face in the mirror, his skin flushed, sweat rolling down, eyes closed, as he pounds into me. There is nothing sexier than watching a man take you from behind, when he has no idea that you’re watching him.

We really need to make this quick, since people have started knocking on the door. Wrapping his hand around my long, blonde hair, he starts to pull on it, like he’s pulling the reins of a horse. The rougher he gets, the more turned on I get. He pulls, and my head goes back, as he licks my neck. “I’m so close,” I whisper to him.

He slows down his pace and makes long hard strides, hitting the spot. I bite down on my lip, as my body shakes with my orgasm. I can taste metallic copper in my mouth, as the blood from my lip trickles in. My body starts to relax, before Rhett pulls completely out of me, before slamming into me one more time, as he comes. He rests his head on my back, while we pant together, trying to calm our breathing.

There’s banging on the door. “Guys, let’s go,” Wes yells. “We had them box up your food, since you skipped right to dessert.” He chuckles. “Howdy, ma’am. Yes, this is the line for the bathroom.” I chuckle, listening to Wes talking outside the door, as we hurry to get dressed.

“Wes can bullshit anyone for hours,” Rhett whispers.

I want to clean up, because I smell like sweat, Rhett’s cum, and my arousal. I throw water on my face, and then put my hair up into a ponytail. I check myself over to make sure everything is buttoned, zipped, and covered up. I unlock the door, and I shush Rhett, who grabs my ass, making me giggle. Wes and Maddie are standing there looking at us with disapproving looks, but also with a hint of mischief in their eyes.

“What?” I stand up straight now, knowing that it was Maddie and not some stranger.

“Let’s go,” she says, linking her arm with mine, as we walk out of the restaurant to a lot of catcalls and whistles.

“Are we seriously friends with a bunch of teenagers? Okay so, I’m going to say good night, and I’ll see yo
u tomorrow morning.” I kiss Rhett goodbye, but he holds onto my waist.

“Can’t I stay with you at the hotel?” He kisses my nose. “Or you could stay at the house with us?”

“No to both. We’re still doing the girls only thing, so I’ll see you at work tomorrow morning. Bye guys.” We all say goodbye, get into our respected vehicles, and head out to our separate locations.

“I can’t believe the guys are your bosses. Don’t you think that’s a major conflict?” Dana, my voice of reason, asks.

“I thought about it, and I’m going to talk to them about putting something in a contract about Rhett and I dating. I don’t want any repercussions to come back on me for it.” I watch the stores passing by, as Dana drives us back to our hotel.

Can I do this? Dana lost her job because of being with her boss, but he was also married.

I feel like this is the real thing, marriage and kids the whole nine yards, but it’s hard, because life doesn’t always work out the way we want it.

I just hope that this isn’t one of those times.

  Rhett

“I can’t believe you had sex in the bathroom with the mayor in the restaurant. He was trying to get into the bathroom,” Wes laughs.

“Charlie’s pretty paranoid about the pranking, working for us, and how our relationship is going to be affected by work, so I went to check on her. She was looking so damn irresistible, and I couldn’t help myself. I’ll probably christen every bathroom in every restaurant from now, until I’m dead.”

“Oh, my God. I can see it now. Charlie using a walker to hold onto, while lowering herself onto your dick, and you both shaking, because you’re older than dirt to get off.” Tucker laughs a little harder than he should with that bad joke, but Wes and I join him.

As we pull into the driveway of the ranch, I realize just how much I don’t want to be here. It’s the first time in my life that I feel empty at my home. We all get out the car, but I don’t head towards the house, like the rest of them.
