Margo Jones stood beside her perky friends, feigning excitement. They had a reason to be pumped for the night that lie ahead of them. They had a reason to sway their hips from left to right as they inched forward in the line stretched in front of Buckwild Saloon.
Her friend, Kerry, wore a spaghetti strap tank and skinny jeans that only rail thin girls could get away with. Her other friend, Liz, wore a crimson dress that fell just below her bottom and a pair of self-proclaimed "fuck me" boots. Both girls were textbook examples of the hot girls that guys go to clubs hoping to score with.
Margo was less assuming, wearing a polka dot tunic with shirring that was supposed to camouflage her ample belly and draw eyes to her cleavage instead. What she lacked in the toned tummy, hell, toned body department, she made up for in the boob department. She’d coupled the tunic with leggings and strappy heels. Not that it mattered. She’d always been relatively popular, with lots of girlfriends—boyfriends, not so much.
As far back as Margo could remember, she'd had a thing for white boys. She had no problem pulling the gangsta types, but she craved a nice preppy guy with deep eyes that she could fall into.
As they finally reached the bouncer, a bulky man with an orange tan, he leered at her two friends, licking his lips. "How are you ladies doing tonight?"
Liz gave him a curt, dismissive nod as she forked over her ID. She was the opposite of Margo, zeroing in on black guys like a heat seeking missile.
Kerry drunk up the attention as she saddled up to the bouncer. "Much better now." She twirled a dark strand around her finger before she handed him her ID.
He glanced at it, then handed back Liz's. "Y’all are just babies! 21 years old."
"Babies!" Kerry hissed, giving him a playful shove. "If you get a break, maybe you should come inside and I'll show you how grown up I am."
Margo's caramel skin turned two shades darker. Partly because Kerry was draping all over the guy, partly because the bouncer was doing a thorough job of completely ignoring her.
He barely even glanced at Margo’s ID, then in an all-business tone grunted, "You're good to go."
She snatched her ID, putting on a brave face as Kerry roped an arm around her and pulled her into the pulsing bar.
Buckwild Saloon had two floors. The first had a bar lined with the usual suspects, an expansive dance floor, and a mechanical bull that sat forebodingly. The second was mostly standing room, where folks could chill and have a bird’s eye view of the main floor.
It was Friday night, so it was decently packed. Margo envied Kerry's giggle of delight. Most of the men that filled the room were achievable goals for her. Margo would be lucky if some rusty old dude with a black girl fetish tried to awkwardly bust a move up on her.
Liz shepherded them to the bar, her golden hair flapping to the beat. "A little liquid courage?"
Margo nodded her agreement. A screwdriver or two would make the inevitable night of watching her friends snag guys easier to swallow. She saddled up to the bar and had to double take when she saw the guy pouring the booze. The bartender looked like something out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog. Golden skin, but not overly so, a muscular frame beneath a black button down shirt and dark wash jeans that fit him as seductively as sin.
"Hey sexy!" Kerry said loudly, waving at him. "A round of drinks for me and my girls!"
Margo's eyes went wide when he looked over with a frown. When their eyes met, his face softened and he smiled, a dimple setting in his right cheek. Her heart stuttered in her chest. Was he smiling at her?
Liz slid up beside her. "He's cute for a white guy, huh?" She gave Margo a nudge. "I think he just smiled at me."
Margo mentally shook herself as she broke her gaze from his. Of course he was smiling at Liz. This was gonna be a long night.
"I'm gonna head to the bathroom, okay?" she said to her friend, leaning in so she could hear her over the booming music.
"K,” Liz answered, not even giving her a second glance. She was already scoping out the place for prey. “I'll watch your drink."
Really, Margo just wanted some space, especially when the cute bartender made his way toward the end of the bar where the three of them were huddled. It was too early in the night and she was way too sober to watch him flirt with Liz. And Kerry was already snuggling up to some hipster dude that was double fisting PBR.
She wheeled around and let out a gasp as she collided with a guy a few feet behind her. When his hand, holding a Budweiser, jerked to the right, she just knew she was about to start a brawl, but no liquid erupted from the spout. She let out a sigh of relief that became a groan when she saw the agitated guy's expression.
"Sorry," she said quickly. "I-"
"No problem," he said smoothly. He wore a baseball cap that shielded most of his face, but when he tilted his head upward, all the heat that burned in her face rushed to her core. He had sharp, attractive features, milky white skin and thick lips that were made for kissing. And she’d just made a hell of a first impression.
She gulped. "I, uh...bathroom." Really, Margo? Really?!
"Don't let me stop you," he grinned. He scanned her body and licked his lips. "Feel free to bump into me anytime."
His words sent a lash of want stretching across Margo's bare skin as she paused. He was flirting with her.
Really.
Truly.
Her eyes shot downward and went as round as full moons when she hit his crotch. His pants were cowboy tight, the curve of his erection a flashing sign of his desire. She wanted to do something bold, step forward ‘til he pressed against her and tell him to hold that thought. Maybe even grind against him a little ‘til she felt his cock dance against her.
She blushed at her brazen thoughts. She was never so horny, so Girls Gone Wild, but it had been a while since a guy had flirted with her that she’d actually been attracted to as well. She wanted to bat her eyes, show some interest.
Instead, she just let out a squeak and booked it to the bathroom.
Stupid, stupid, stupid, she scolded herself as she breezed into the bathroom, the door shutting behind her with a deadening thud. As she moved to the sink, she found the finality of the sound did nothing to curb the longing that the baseball cap guy evoked. She didn't know what turned her on more--his thick lips, the way he stared at her, or the visible effect she had on him.
She flipped on the water and pushed her body against the porcelain sink, the bundle of nerves
inside her igniting as she pretended the stiffness was him. She clutched the sides of the basin, rocking nice and slow as the music drifted into the room. Could he dance? If she walked up to him and asked, would he say yes?
She jetted her hands beneath the water and as the cool spread across her skin, she let herself hope. It hadn't been in her head. He was into her.
Quieting the voice that told her he was looking for his right now and not a happily ever after, Margo grabbed a paper towel and cast a final glance at her reflection before she pushed back into the club.
She saw Liz and Kerry, already surrounded by a group of admirers. The guy she'd run into stood off to the side, just chilling and taking it all in. If she dared approach him, he was making it real easy by not rolling deep. She could take a chance, or spend the night watching her friends get all the attention.
She pushed her shoulders back and stood tall, summoning a bit of courage as she moved through the crowd, stopping just beside the guy. She tapped him on the shoulder.
He turned around, a sly smile creeping across his face. "What's up?"
Margo licked her lip, tossing her thick, curly hair as she got him in her sights. "Wanna dance?"

Some Lady Gaga tune poured from the speakers as Margo led her guy to the floor. Usually, it took several drinks to make her so bold, to make her unconcerned about her love handles or her ass or everyone staring at her. But there was just something about the night, about the way he looked at her that made everything else irrelevant.
When they hit the center of the huddle of people bumping and grinding to the rhythm, Margo released his hand and threw hers up in the sky. She rolled her stomach like a belly dancer and just let loose. All her worries about exams, about her lackluster love life, about her hang ups, melted away as she shook her body, shaking away all her issues in time.
A ripple of heat flashed through her when she felt her partner step up behind her, his firm body moving against hers. He shot down the stereotype, moving with the affinity of someone that knew exactly how to carry a beat in his bones.
She spun to face him, grinning from head to toe as she saw the smirk on his face as he popped and locked it like the best of them.
She danced a little closer, leaning her mouth toward his ear. "Go 'head witcha bad self!" She gasped when she felt one of his arms rope around her waist and pull her close.
"You ain’t seen nothing yet,” he breathed dangerously.
Margo froze and her eyes went wide as she felt the stiff length of him against her groin. That couldn't all be him!
He must have picked up on her surprise because he took one of her hands and brought it to his erection.
"You see what you do to me?" he said thickly, his eyes burning into her.
Margo yanked her hand back, suddenly very aware of everything. Of the heat pouring off the people around them in waves. The nervousness that settled in her cheeks, turning them beet red. The carnal clench between her legs.
But she didn't know this guy. As much as she tried to pretend she could be just like Kerry and Liz, a seductress, a predator, she was out of her element. She just wanted to dance, not jerk off some guy on the dance floor.
When she tried to pull away from him, his grip tightened and he brought her closer. "Don't you wanna see what you do to me? Feel it?” He stuck his tongue in her ear. “Taste it?”
Margo gathered her wits about her and shoved him away, moving away from him before she knocked him upside the head. That was a bit much. She didn’t even know his name and he was talking about her giving him a blow job? What kind of girl did he think she was?
Kerry was at the cusp of the floor, backing it up against some guy as her drink sloshed over the rim. She scanned the room for Liz and saw her regaling a circle of admirers, each one more riveted than the last. If she wasn't mildly freaked out by the guy practically assaulting her on the dance floor, she might have been able to appreciate the irony that once again, she was retreating to the bathroom.
She turned on her heels and marched in the direction of the ladies room, grimacing as she weaved in and out of the crowd. She reached for the door handle and cried out when she felt someone yank her to the right, shoving her into the pitch darkness of a room beside the bathroom. The door clicked closed with a snap and her nostrils flared as she caught a whiff of clorox and disinfectant. A supply closet.
Just when she got ready to scream and claw someone's eyes out, the light switched on.
It was the guy from the dance floor.
He perked an eyebrow when he took in Margo's fighting stance and balled fist. "You gonna knock me out?"
She relaxed a little, letting out a nervous chuckle. "S-sorry. I didn't know it was you."
He took a step forward, his icy eyes glittering in the dim light. "You left in a hurry."
Margo took a step backward, trying to seem chill. "I, uh-"
"It's okay," he shushed her. "I was a little forward." He scanned her up and down and let out a 'mm' of approval. "You're just so damn hot."
Margo blushed, raking a hand through her hair. "Thank you."
He took another step, slowly bridging the gap between them. "You know, if you really wanna thank me, you can let me see just how hot you are beneath all those clothes." He was close enough that Margo could smell the tang of alcohol on his breath. The tongue of his ball cap and the dark club had masked his features but now, up close, his cuteness was overshadowed by something off. It was in the way his eyes bore into her, the set of his jaw.
Margo's back cried out in pain as she hit the wall. A dead end. She couldn't go any further. "That's sweet, but I don't know you. If you think I'm gonna strip down in some back room-"
He followed her to the wall, pinning her. He reached out and brushed her cheek. "Don't you like me?"
She looked at him, his hawkish eyes devouring her. Like he was a predator. And he tasted blood. “Maybe we should go back out to the dance floor.” In her mind, she was thinking as soon as she got out of there, she’d put as much distance between the two of them as possible. There was something unnerving about him now. She wasn’t trying to end up on Unsolved Mysteries.
His hand trailed down from her cheek and he gripped her breast. There was nothing sweet or passionate about it. It was feral. Painful. “C’mon. I know you want it.”
She shoved him backward. "Stop it."
But he just came back with a vengeance, slamming her back against the wall as he fondled her with piercing fingers, trying to undo her pants.
Fight or flight kicked in and Margo was damned if he was gonna rape her in a janitor's closet and she wasn't gonna give him a scar or two. She struggled with him, trying to push him backward, off her, but he was stronger than he looked, easily overpowering her.
"You know you want it," he growled. She looked down in horror and saw his cock was somehow free.
She started screaming, her arms flailing as she tried and failed to keep him from pulling off her jeans.
One of her hands collided with his jaw and lit him up with a series of angry, red welts that went from nose to ear. His eyes went wild with fury and she shrieked when he advanced toward her. Her heel hit a box on the floor and she tumbled to the ground. She still squirmed as he lowered himself down, his gaze laced with anger and lust.
"No!" she screamed. "Don't!" Her knee collided with his groin and he cried out in pain.
"You BITCH!" he roared. "I oughta-" His words were clipped as he was snatched backward.
Margo blinked through tears of anger and fear and saw the bartender. He was holding the guy in a chokehold.
She struggled to her feet, buttoning her jeans.
The guy fought the hold ‘til he finally succumbed. "Alright," he gargled. The bartender slackened his hold. "She wanted it. Didn't you, babe?"
Margo launched forward and socked him in the jaw. "You fucking bastard!" She spit on him for good measure.
The bartender gazed at her with concern, still holding her would-be rapist. "Y
ou okay?"
"I-I’m fine," Margo said shakily. She couldn't even wrap her mind around what had almost happened.
"You wanna call the cops?" he said, still holding the guy steady.
Margo would like nothing more than the prick spending a night behind bars, but she just wanted to get out of the room, out of the bar. "I just wanna get out of here."
She pushed past them, back into the bar, adrenaline pumping through her body. The sounds of music intermixed with her heart roaring in her ears. A quick scan of the room and she saw Kerry and Liz, both lost in the crowd, moving their bodies to the beat. Completely oblivious that their friend was almost raped just a few feet away.
With a scoff of disgust, Margo turned and stalked toward the patio. She needed a cigarette. She needed the chill of the night air to calm the anger and frustration that was threatening to swallow her whole.
Her heels clacked on the cement and she sighed with relief when she saw only a couple lingered outside. The guy was too busy exploring the girl's mouth to notice Margo.
She strutted to the rail and pulled out a cigarette, followed by her lighter. Her fingers shook as she tried to flick the light, but the thing didn't even spark.
"Need a light?"
She cast a look toward the voice. It was the bartender. His face was drawn, his aqua eyes colored with worry. Great. Now she'd always be that thick chick that almost got raped in the supply closet.
She turned her back to him, cursing the lighter for not lighting. She needed a cigarette more than ever. "I'm fine."
He moved closer. "I'm Scott."
His voice was a deep rumble. Margo bit her lip as the heat in her cheeks shot to her groin. There was something in the baritone that made her heart skip, something about his voice that made her think about slow jams and champagne and silk sheets.
He stepped up beside her, pulling a matchbook from his pocket. He struck it and held the flame. Margo leaned forward, her eyes locked on his. She took a drag before speaking. "T-thanks. I'm Margo."
