SCORPIUS MALFOY: Is there anything you don’t know?

LILY POTTER: It allows one person to control the other. It nasty. Rose and I read about it, in the library.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: Scary, what those two can do with a book.

ROSE WEASLEY: There wasn’t much on it, just a paragraph or so, but if we could find a way to use it

JAMES POTTER: We can find her.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: A Baggle, I’ve heard that before... (Eureka) Wait. My dad, he had a letter, and it mentioned a Bagglenox. I wasn’t supposed to see it, but there were pages and pages about what it was, how to use it.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: That’s it. That’s how we find her.

  Blackout

  Act 2 Scene 10

Spotlight on MCGUFFIN, who is center stage. He is menacing, even more so than before.

KERES MCGUFFIN: Witches, wizards, and magical beings. I speak to you now as your Minister of Magic. Your former Minister, one Hermione WEASLEY, is a villain. She, along with the famed Boy Who Lived Harry Potter, are wanted for keeping vital information, information that may have saved lives, from the public. Do not allow their celebrity to deceive you, they have been, and always will be, on path of self satisfaction. Her reign has been nothing more than a gross misuse of power, and I fear that the recent tragedies may have been ploys used to distract from her hidden agenda. Witches and wizards: Hermione Weasley is your enemy, and must be stopped no matter the cost. If you witness her, or any of her cohorts, do not approach. Consider her armed, and extremely dangerous. Personal safety, above all else, must prevail. Alert aurors immediately. I promise you this: She will be stopped, and she will answer most terribly for her actions.

Lights shift to INT Malfoy Manor, Draco’s office. SCORPIUS ruffles through his dad’s desk while ROSE looks on, while the rest of the children wander in amazement. Albus sits.

JAMES POTTER: And you live here?

SCORPIUS MALFOY: As we’ve established, yes.

  JAMES POTTER: Bloody hell.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: Is this venomous tentacula?

SCORPIUS MALFOY: Probably. (He glances up) Albus, are you feeling alright?

  ALBUS POTTER: (Unconvincingly) I’m fine.

ROSE WEASLEY: Can you speed this up a bit?

SCORPIUS MALFOY: (Agitated) Maybe if I didn’t have you breathing down my neck, I could, (Immediately calmed) Nevermind, here we go. Having a family obsessed with the dark arts has its occasional perks.

He extends a paper, ROSE hastily pulls it from his hand.

ROSE WEASLEY: Scorpius, you’re brilliant. According to this, it’s based on feeling. The longer they’re separated, the more drained the holder, that’s Albus, will become, but as we get nearer to the weilder, Cecelia, he’ll feel stronger than ever. We can use this. We can

DRACO MALFOY: (Interrupting) However you’ve made your way into my house, I highly suggest that you, Scorpius?

  SCORPIUS MALFOY: Dad. Hello.

  HARRY, HERMIONE, and NEVILLE enter.

  ALBUS POTTER: Dad?

HARRY POTTER: Albus Severus Potter, are we pleased to see you.

He hugs his son. LILY runs to him as well.

  HERMIONE WEASLEY

You are in terrible amounts of trouble, Rose.

She hugs ROSE fiercely. SCORPIUS looks to DRACO.

DRACO MALFOY: We can hug too.

SCORPIUS awkwardly embraces his father. DRACO smiles.

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM: Frank? What on earth are you? And James, Lily? When did you leave school?

JAMES POTTER: You didn’t even notice? I should have cut class long before now.

  HARRY POTTER: Albus, no!

ALBUS has collapsed in HARRY’s arms. JAMES helps his father get his brother into a chair.

  ROSE WEASLEY: It’s the Bagglenox!

HERMIONE WEASLEY: How could you possibly know what that is?

LILY POTTER: We read about it, in the restricted section of the library.

DRACO MALFOY: I’m beginning to believe that the only reason we think that school is safe is because they tell us that it is.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: We were going to use the Bagglenox to help us find her.

HARRY POTTER: He’s too weak, it will kill him.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: If we don’t find her soon, he’ll die anyway, Harry.

HARRY POTTER: (Roaring) I will not allow that to happen! Albus, please, can you remember anything?

ALBUS POTTER: The Golbin War. It’s where she lived, where they hurt her. The town of the Goblin War.

  SCORPIUS MALFOY: Hogsmeade.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: The Goblin Rebellion of 1612. Scorpius, that’s it. She is impressed.

DRACO extracts a book from the shelf.

DRACO MALFOY: My father kept meticulous records of the trials he oversaw, especially those concerned with the Second Wizarding War.

  HERMIONE WEASLEY: With Muggleborns.

DRACO MALFOY: Yes. (He flips through the pages) The photograph, Neville.

  NEVILLE hands him the picture.

DRACO MALFOY: Helena Griggs. She’s much younger but this is her face. Dolores Umbridge sentenced her father to life in Azkaban, but he ran.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: And when he was caught, snatchers executed him in the town square.

DRACO MALFOY: You know your history.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: You say that as if you’re surprised. But Albus, you’ll die if she isn’t there, if she hasn’t returned

ALBUS POTTER: She is. I can feel it. I don’t know if it’s this... Baggle...nox, or what, but I know that I’m right. Please, just, trust me.

  HARRY is torn.

  HARRY POTTER: I do.

  Blackout

  Act 2 Scene 11

INT. HOGSHEAD INN. ALBUS LAYS ASLEEP, HIS HEAD IN Hermione’s lap, while LILY sits beside them.

SCORPIUS is pouring over a book, ROSE leans against him. NEVILLE, JAMES, and FRANK quietly discuss plans. DRACO and HARRY stand near each other.

HARRY POTTER: Six hours we’ve been here, and nothing. Not a whisper that she’s anywhere near us.

DRACO MALFOY: Patience was never your strong suit, Potter.

HARRY POTTER: You believe that Astoria’s death was done at Helena’s hand. And that’s why you began your investigation?

  DRACO MALFOY: It is.

HARRY POTTER: I am sorry, Draco.

DRACO MALFOY: I envied you, you know. The three of you. You had friends, true friends. (Bitterly) I had Crabbe and Goyle.

  HARRY POTTER: They were loyal.

DRACO MALFOY: On days they could remember their own names. My father thought he was protecting me, forbidding my friendships with those deemed below us. Isolating me, allowing my hatred and anger to fester and grow. Loneliness is a terrible thing, an inescapable, suffocating darkness that seems impossible to claw your way up from.

HARRY POTTER: I was miserable for

DRACO MALFOY: Years, yes. But when it mattered, you were surrounded by love. You may not understand loneliness, Harry, but your son does. I love Scorpius, yet I’ve shown it by pushing him away, isolating him from my pain in failed attempts at protecting him. Albus needs you. Just as my son has needed me.

ALBUS POTTER: Dad? Dad I feel her. She’s close.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: He’s strong again. She must be.

  MCGUFFIN enters.

KERES MCGUFFIN: Hermione WEASLEY. No Ronald?

HERMIONE WEASLEY: Keres. You placed a bounty on my head. How did you find me?

KERES MCGUFFIN: I have eyes in all corners of the world, my dear.

HARRY POTTER: Hermione is not the woman behind this, but we know who she is. We can bring her to justice.

  From behind MCGUFFIN, HELENA emerges.

HELENA GRIGGS: Do tell me more, Mr. Potter. Albus, darling. You’ve brought me a welcoming parade. How charming.

  ALBUS POTTER: Helena.

HELENA GRIGGS: Clever boy. Who told you my name?

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: Trelawney. She left clues, led us straight to you.

  KE
RES MCGUFFIN: Even in death that witch is a thorn in our side.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: You knew. You were working with her, all the while.

KERES MCGUFFIN: Of course I knew.

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM: Why? Why would you betray your own people, murder Kingsley Shaklebolt!?

KERES MCGUFFIN: You’d be surprised what a woman can be persuaded to do when power and gold are on the table.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: You are nothing but a monster.

KERES MCGUFFIN: In your eyes. But I spoke the truth, as Minister, I will protect my community from all those who threaten it, no matter the cost. She raises his wand, pointing it squarely at HERMIONE’s chest, but changes direction, pointing it at HELENA.

  KERES MCGUFFIN: Expelliarmus!

HELENA GRIGGS: What have you done?

KERES MCGUFFIN: I would like to give thanks, naive child, for allowing me to climb so far up the ladder. But you’re a menace, no better than Potter and his gang of cretins. You’ll only stand in my way.

HELENA GRIGGS: You are a fool.

She uses wandless magic to choke KERES, she drops her wand.

  KERES MCGUFFIN: Please, I

  HELENA GRIGGS: Avada Kedavra.

MCGUFFIN drops, dead. The adults brandish their wands.

DRACO MALFOY: This is foolish. You are heavily outnumbered.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Am I?

Hooded Figures surround the group, wands withdrawn.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: Children, stay behind me.

ALBUS POTTER: All of this, because of your father?

  HELENA GRIGGS: They murdered him!

HERMIONE WEASLEY: Those snatchers are long since in Azkaban, you are punishing innocent witches and wizards

DRACO MALFOY: "Pure death and destruction will reign". The prophecy refers to Purebloods.

HELENA GRIGGS: The cleanest of blood and the blackest of soul. Voldemort and his followers, Dumbledore and his, Purebloods began a war that murdered my father.

  HARRY POTTER: Dumbledore defended Muggleborns!

HELENA GRIGGS: And yet he allowed them to be slaughtered

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM: You’re wrong. He died defending those of us who could not defend ourselves.

HELENA GRIGGS: "In the fifteenth year of a child born as the sun reaches its peak, the serpent heir of he who defied our greatest evil will hold the key."

HERMIONE WEASLEY: A prophecy can be unwritten, no fate is sealed.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Albus’s is.

ALBUS POTTER: (Tentative, yet confident) But it isn’t mine.

  HELENA GRIGGS: You’re mad.

ALBUS POTTER: I’m not. I am a serpent, yes, but I’m no heir. I’m not the eldest. James is my father’s heir.

  ROSE WEASLEY: Albus, It’s

  ALBUS POTTER/ROSE WEASLEY: Scorpius.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: (Horrified) Sorry, sorry, I’m-? No. No. You think? He’s joking.

HELENA GRIGGS: You were born on the summer solstice, Albus Potter

DRACO MALFOY: And Scorpius, my serpent heir, was born on the winter.

HELENA GRIGGS: He who defied our greatest evil

DRACO MALFOY: Was me, when I failed. refused. to kill Dumbledore, at Voldemort’s orders. When my mother and I refused to join his battle, refused to slaughter my classmates.

ROSE WEASLEY: You’ve lost. Everything you’ve done, everyone you’ve hurt, it was all for nothing, because Scorpius will never follow you.

HELENA GRIGGS: I will not fail. You insolent, monstorous, brat! Avad

RON WEASLEY: Levicorpus! Not my daughter, you bitch!

RON appears on stage, his wand pointed at HELENA. She falls, unconscious. RON rushes to his family.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: Ronald... How did you? He glances at her, and the tension is palpable.

RON WEASLEY: McGonagall. Sent me an owl saying the children were missing when the one she sent you wasn’t delivered. Rose still has the trace. Not technically supposed to be used for tracking, but I pulled the few strings I have left at the ministry. Here- I brewed this. Draught of peace, with crushed beozar. It should knock them out, aim for the face, or it’s a waste.

  HERMIONE WEASLEY: This is brilliant.

RON WEASLEY: Don’t seem so surprised.

HELENA has stood, furious, her wand brandished.

HELENA GRIGGS: Albus, I’m afraid your friends have overstayed their welcome. (Viciously, quietly, spat.) Attack. A battle begins. Curses fly, and slowly, the Draught of Peace is administered to each of HELENA’s henchmen.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Crucio!

  DRACO MALFOY: Scorpius, my son

  HELENA GRIGGS: IMPERIO!

  SCORPIUS MALFOY: PROTEGO! Tarantellagra!

HELENA’s leg’s buckle, and she stares at SCORPIUS, who slowly stands. He is exhausted, injured, but determined.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: You, you can’t make me. Hurt them.

  HELENA GRIGGS: (Venomous) The prophecy

SCORPIUS MALFOY: A prophecy is only self fulfilling when acted upon, I was never a part of your game. You ignored me, belittled me. I’m not your pawn.

HELENA GRIGGS You... (She sneers) This would have been so much easier if you’d have just done as you’re told. Crucio!

SCORPIUS crumples, ROSE holds him. The battle resumes.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: Expulso! His curse flies straight for HELENA and she screams.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Crucio! Crucio! Crucio!

  FRANK writhes, screaming in agony.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Sectumsempra!

  NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM: No!

NEVILLE steps in the way of her blast, he is hit.

  FRANK LONGBOTTOM: NO!

  HARRY POTTER: Neville!

NEVILLE falls, dead. The silence is deafening for just a moment, before HARRY screams, the battle resumes.

  HARRY POTTER: Stupefy!

  ALBUS POTTER: Confrigo! Reducto! Crucio!

HELENA GRIGGS: You have to mean it Albus. Crucio.

  HARRY POTTER:Ventus! Albus, are you

  HELENA GRIGGS: Bombar

  HARRY POTTER: Protego! Stupefy!

  HELENA GRIGGS: Locomotor mortis! Expelliarmus.

HARRY’s wand flies out of his hand, HELENA is controlling ALBUS through the Bagglenox, and has made him cast the spell on his own father. She forces him to point his wand at HARRY.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Kill him, Albus.

  ALBUS raises his wand, unsteady.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: Albus, no! It’s the bagglenox, it’s not real, whatever you’re feeling, whatever you’re thinking, don’t listen to it.

  HELENA GRIGGS: Do it.

  ALBUS POTTER: (Crying) I can’t, I

HELENA GRIGGS: If you won’t, then I will. Avad

  ALBUS POTTER: NO!

ALBUS raises his wand and fires a curse at her. Her eyes widen, and she glows white, and she collapses, dead. HARRY rushes to ALBUS as he collapses. FRANK sobs over NEVILLE’s body.

  Blackout

  Act 2 Scene 12

INT. Hospital Wing. HARRY stands several feet away from GINNY’s side.

  GINNY POTTER: Harry...

HARRY POTTER: Gin, how are you feeling?

GINNY POTTER: I’ve been worse. I’ve been better. Ron’s just left, he told me what’s happened. (Beat) When is Neville’s funeral?

HARRY POTTER: Thursday. Frank - he watched his father die. He held him, and I, I couldn’t do anything. And Albus, he carried the weight of it on his shoulders, he

GINNY POTTER: Saved our world. Harry, I know you love him, I think he must know as well, but he has to feel it.

HARRY POTTER: I’d do anything for him.

GINNY POTTER: You’d do anything for pretty much anyone. He needs to feel special.

HARRY POTTER: He is. Gin, I, theres something I

GINNY POTTER: I know. About Hermione. I’ve known for a long time, Harry. And if you’ve come for forgiveness, I can’t give it. I’m leaving, for a while, perhaps. I doubt forever. But I love you. I always have, I always will.

HARRY POTTER: I don’t deserve you.
r />   GINNY POTTER: No, you don’t. And if it happens again, that’ll be the last of it. But you’re stuck with me. For now. The scene changes to RON and HERMIONE. She is packing her clothes into a case.

  RON WEASLEY

How does it feel - to be Minister of Magic again?

HERMIONE WEASLEY: Like riding a bike. I’m back in the office come Monday. I (Beat) Ron, I don’t know if theres a way I can express how sorry, I am, for hurting you. What I’ve done is deplorable. I, selfishly, hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me someday. He does not respond. She closes her case, and starts to walk out. He stops her.

RON WEASLEY: Stay. I, I’m not saying, well I don’t know what I’m saying, and I’ll be at mum and dad’s for a bit, but... Hermione. You are my world. And it’s shattered.

HERMIONE WEASLEY: If you’d let me, I’d like to try to pick up the pieces.

RON WEASLEY: I think I’d like that.

They kiss. The scene changes again, and we are at Hogwarts. SCORPIUS and ALBUS sit on the stairs as students mill about.

KENDALL BETCHER: Did you hear? Apparently she transfigured into an acromantula and he ripped off her head.

  KAYLIN BLACKWELL: Rubbish, you’re fibbing.

KENDALL BETCHER: It’s true! And it’s wicked.

JULIANNE RYCROFT: Hi, Albus. She winks as she passes.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: Is that Julianne Rycroft actually speaking to you?

  ALBUS POTTER: Terrifying.

SCORPIUS MALFOY: You know, ever since having experienced what was essentially the worst thing imaginable, I’m pretty much good on fear.

ALBUS POTTER: So I’ve heard. Did you really ask out Kendall Betcher?

SCORPIUS MALFOY: No. (Beat) It was Rose.

ALBUS POTTER: Have you ever considered that you might be a total idiot?

SCORPIUS MALFOY: I saw pity in her eyes.

ALBUS POTTER: Pity? Rose hates you.

  SCORPIUS MALFOY: For now.

JAMES enters STELLA is on his arm.

JAMES POTTER: And that was when I used the leg binding curse. It was nothing really.

  STELLA TOWIE: That’s amazing.

  ALBUS POTTER: Hi.

JAMES POTTER: Hi yourself. I’d ask if you were coming to the Quidditch pitch, but I think I know the answer. (He pauses as he starts to exit) It’s good to have you back.
