Beautifully Destroyed Page 13

by Love, Sandra

  ***

I woke up when Doctor Johnson walked in. “Good morning, Toria. How are you?”

“I have a little headache, but other than that, I am okay.”

She pulled up a chair and sat. “Jeb, I need you to wake up.”

Jeb woke up and sat up. “What’s going on?”

She opened up the chart and smiled. “Well, congratulations! The blood work came back, and it shows that you are having a baby.”

I looked at her in shock. Jeb looked at me and, he smiled. “Oh my god. This is huge.”

Doctor Johnson got up and walked toward the door. “I will give you time. You have an ultrasound in an hour.”

Once she was gone, I started to cry. “Jeb, I am so sorry.”

He pulled me onto his lap and held me. “Babe, listen: I am so happy about this.”

“I don’t want you to think I am trapping you.”

He kissed my forehead. “I would never think that.”

We sat there talking about the baby when the nurse came in to get us for the ultrasound. I laid down and she put the cold gel on my stomach. Jeb held my hand the entire time. I just stared at the screen, crying. I couldn’t have been happier. Once we were done, I was discharged from the hospital and told to come back in four weeks for a checkup. I couldn’t get the scan because I was pregnant, so she told me if I experienced any vision problems or headaches that last more than two days to come back.

After I was released from the hospital, we got picked up by Jeb’s Father’s driver. “So do you want to tell your family now or wait?”

“What do you want to do?”

I really wanted to tell my family, but I was still so angry with them. “Can we meet my sister for dinner? I would love to tell her.”

  “Of course.”

I called my sister, and she answered on the second ring. “Toria, I am so glad you called.”

“Brianna, I would like for you to meet us for dinner. Just you.”

She agreed to meet us at six. “Now I would love to go tell Mitch, maybe Vanessa. Can she meet us over there?”

“Give her a call; she is off today.”

I called her, and she said she was on her way over there. We drive in silence, and I just looked out of the window. I put my hand on my stomach. I couldn’t believe I was actually pregnant. I was going to be a mother. I thought back to two months ago. I was homeless and had no one but Mitch. Now I had a whole new family. I was just excited to share the news with all those who had stuck by me.

We pulled in the driveway just as Vanessa did. We walked in, and everyone took a seat on the couch and Jeb and I stood in front of them.

“Last night, I was attacked again.” Mitch gasped and his hand flew to his mouth. “I am okay. It was the same person who attacked me weeks ago.”

“So, did they catch him or her?” Tony had spoken up.

“Yes, he is now in jail.”

I decided not to tell them who it was, and Jeb squeezed my hand. “But I have some good news for you all. I decided that I wanted to tell you three first, because you all have been here for me.”

“What is it? Are you okay?” Mitch asked as he squeezed Tony’s hand.

I smiled and looked over to Jeb. “Yes. I am more than okay. I am going to have a baby.”

“Oh my god! No way!” Vanessa got up and wrapped me in a hug.

“Vanessa, you are going to make a fantastic aunt. And Mitch.” I pulled back from the hug. “You are going to make a great grandpa.”

“Really?” He got up and walked over to me and we hugged. “This means the world to me.”

“Mitch, I wouldn’t have survived without you helping me. I love you. You are the only father I need.”

He pulled out of the hug and tears were rolling down his cheeks. “I love you, Toria.”

  “I love you, too.”

We all sat around talking baby names. Vanessa was excited to go shopping for the baby and me. They asked about us getting married, and Jeb and I agreed that we will not get married just because we had a baby on the way. We would marry when the time was right. After visiting them for a while, it was time to meet up with my sister.

  “Are you nervous?”

I sighed and looked at him. “I am really nervous.”

  “You got this.”

He reached over and took my hand. When we got to the restaurant, I saw Brianna sitting on the bench in front of the building. She looked really nervous.

I approached her and she got up to give me a hug. I backed away. “I’m not ready, Bri. Please forgive me.”

“I understand that you are mad at me. I just want to tell you how sorry I am for all that I did.”

“Just give me time. Are you ready to eat?”

Jeb got us a table and we went to take a seat. We ordered our drinks and food, and then I took a deep breath. “I have some news for you. I didn’t know if I wanted to tell you or not. But I have faith that I will forgive you and we will become close again.”

  “Okay. Is it bad?”

I looked over to Jeb and he smiled. “No, it’s the best news ever. I’m pregnant.”

She was taking a drink of water when I said that, and my news made her choke. I giggled a little. “Oh my god, Toria! That is amazing! Thank you so much for telling me the news.”

  “Please don’t tell our parents.”

  “I promise, I won’t.”

  Epilogue

  Jeb

When we got back to my condo, I could see that she was exhausted. She went to grab the broom and pick up after the robbery, but I took the broom from her. “No, babe, not tonight. I want my girl and child to get some rest.”

She wrapped her arms around me. “Well, I am not that tired. So why don’t we make our way to the bedroom?”

  “Yes ma’am.”

She giggled, and I grabbed her hand and we made our way to the bedroom. Once we were in there, I turned to face her. “Jeb, thank you for not giving up on me. I was destroying my life and you saved it.”

“Babe, I would do anything for you. You remember that first day I saw you?”

She thought about it for a moment, and then her eyes lit up. It was like I could see the light bulb coming on above her head. “Oh my god, yes. I was looking at myself in your car window. Jeb, I remember!”

“Yeah. After that day, I wanted, no needed, to find you. I had to have you.”

She giggled. “Oh really, Mr. Turner?”

“Yes, really. I couldn’t believe that I was looking at the most beautiful angel alive.” I tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “Toria, when I am around you, I feel as if the earth has stopped spinning. That everything is on pause and the only thing I see is you.”

“I feel the same way. I never knew I would find someone like you.” She smiled and kissed my forehead. “You saved me; you made me whole again. And this baby is going to be so lucky to have you as a father.”

I leaned in and slowly kissed her. Her kisses were so addicting, and they tasted so good. “Speaking of being a father: we need to tell my parents. Let’s get a shower and get ready to go.”

On the way over to my parents’, she was singing along to the radio and having a good time. I couldn’t help but smile. Once we got there, I could see the nervousness on her face. I squeezed her hand. “It will be okay.”

“I just hope they know I didn’t trap you.”

“Don’t be silly. They will not think that.”

We got out of the car and headed up to the door. My mother wrapped Toria in a hug. “I am so sorry for my son.”

“Oh, that’s okay. I just want him to get the help he needs.”

My father walked out of his office. “Well, hello, son, Toria … what brings you here today?”

“Well, we have some news for you. Can you take a seat?”

We all went to the sitting room and sat down. “Last night,” Toria began, “the doctor ran some tests and we are happy to tell you: you are going to be grandparents!”

  My
mother put her hand to her mouth, and my father jumped up out of his seat. “Well, I’ll be damned. This is great news.” He walked over and gave me and Toria hugs, followed by my mother.

“Oh dear, you are going to be a wonderful mother.”

“I will try. I still have my issues, but trust me when I say I will not do anything to harm this baby.”

We all sat around talking and eating. Toria got sick and had to go to the bathroom a couple of times. My mother told her that was normal. I was just glad that my parents were going to support us. They did ask us about a wedding, but we told them the same thing we told our friends. When it was time, we would, but we were not going to rush into anything. After we left, we went back to the condo. We ended up cleaning it up, and I played her a couple of songs on my guitar. She just sat there in awe while listening to me play.

  ***

The next couple of months were amazing. We decided to buy a house in the country. She wanted to raise our baby in a quiet surrounding. She was starting to show more, and we had our monthly appointment soon. But we decided we weren’t going to find out what the baby was.

Barb finally left us alone. I had no idea what she was up to. Vanessa finally met a great guy and was happy. She told us she wanted to take things slow and get to know him better. Her and Toria had girls’ weekend every weekend. But I didn’t get too upset. I knew they both needed that time together.

Mitch and Tony were still going strong, and Mitch was finally coming back from the withdrawals. I told Toria I could see them getting married before us. She agreed with that.

Toria and her sister had been slowly building up their relationship. It was tough for Toria, but she knew that Brianna was a kid when she said those horrible things.

I walked in while Toria was dancing in the nursery. She was twirling and singing along to Taylor Swift. When she saw me, she stopped and laughed.

  “You scared me.”

I walked over and wrapped her in a hug. “Miss Jacobs, you have no idea how sexy you are twirling around like that.”

“Ha! I am like a whale.”

  “Never. You’re beautiful.”

She kissed my cheek. “So, Mr. Turner, this pregnancy is making me extremely horny. What do you want to do about it?”

“Hmm, I have so many things I could do to you.”

She whispered in my ear. “Oh really? Why don’t you show me?”

She giggled, and ran to our bedroom and jumped on the bed. “Are you sure you want this?”

“I will always want you. I love you, Jeb, right now and forever.”

  “I love you, too.”

That night we made love for hours. I would love this girl until my last breath. We laid there, and I held her in my arms with one hand on her swollen belly. She was fast asleep, and I felt it. I felt the baby kick. Tears welled up, and I smiled. Feeling our baby kick was like a miracle. I leaned down and kissed Toria on the forehead, and all the emotions I held in came to surface. My heart felt whole, my life was complete.
