Prologue
I was running down the streets as hard as I could. My legs hurt like they were being stabbed every second, and believe me, I knew how that felt. My lungs felt like they were on fire, and couldn’t get any more oxygen in them. My breath came out fast and formed little clouds in front of my face. I felt the air leave my lungs as my body fell to the floor. My knees banged against the floor and my head felt with a loud thud onto the floor. My sight became blurry and my hands shot out to try and find something to steady myself with. I felt leaves and little stones on the tips of my fingers but didn’t find anything useful.
The only thing I knew is that no one was going to find me in this damn cold place. The last lamp post I saw was 10 minutes ago when I was running. So if I had any hope, that would be gone by now.. didn’t say I had any to begin with, though.
So, I stayed there on the cold floor and waited till my breath came out steady, and my body had enough energy to run further. I closed my eyes to try and make the blurry sight go away, ’cause let me tell you, that ain’t a pretty sight to see.
My vision became normal and my breath steadied itself. I moved my arms and pulled myself up. I grabbed the wall and waited a minute till the dizzy feeling was gone. I looked at my surroundings and saw dark shadows on the walls of high buildings. Creepy dumpsters that looked like there could be found anyone in there, and I don’t mean alive.
I heard voices from behind me so I hid behind one of those creepy dumpsters, and Jesus, they smelled like death. I made my body small by pulling my knees to my chest and tried to make no sound. The voices came close and I heard loud footsteps echo through the walls.
‘No, man. What the fuck are you talking about? I told you I killed that little piece of shit.’
‘Well, then why the hell did my men see her walking through the streets?’
‘Maybe because she has a fucking sister. Dude, I told you I killed her, and I never lied to you before. So why the hell would you think I would lie about a bitch?’
‘I don’t know man, I just heard this from my men. They even brought me pictures of her.’
‘Well, that’s not my problem.’
The two man came closer to the second, and I swear to god my heart was beating out of my chest. I tightly closed my eyes and hoped they wouldn’t see me.
’Yes, I know Gio, but you better find that girl. ‘Cause god knows what she already knows about us.’
‘Yes, I will find her.’
I knew that in 3 seconds they would walk by or see me and probably kill me, or take me. God, I hope the first option.
Their footsteps came to an abrupt stop, and let me tell you my heart stopped as well. My hair was being yanked and my head shot up. I opened my eyes and looked into the most mesmerizing bright green eyes.
‘Well, boss I think I found her.’
Chapter 1
I was here for two days. Locked in a room with a bed and a fucking toilet. So, if I had to take a shit, I had to do it next to my bed. And god, that isn’t an amazing smell. So, I tried to get someone’s attention by banging on the door, and ask them if I could go to the toilet. But no one responded.
They didn’t give me any food. Or anything else. The night the men found me they knocked me unconscious, and the next morning I was in this little room, with a bed that felt like I was lying on needles. And a damn toilet that couldn’t flush. My life was a living hell.
I stood up and walked to the door. I banged with my fists on the door and yelled as hard as I could. My hands were beginning to throb and my knuckles turned purple, blood flooded out of my knuckles. I let myself slip to the ground and my butt came with a soft thud in contact with the cold stone floor.
I gave up. Tears were running down my cheeks, and my body was shaking by every sob I gave. I laid down on the cold stone floor and pushed my knees to my chest for warmth. My eyes dropped close and darkness came to me.
I woke to a strange sound that echoed trough my ears. It was a loud and scaling sound. Like nails scratching on a school board. I sat up and dropped my head to my hands. I put my hands on my ears and tried to block out the awful sound. I felt my belly rumble and hunger came to me. Jezus, couldn’t they give me some water and bread. But no, I got nothing! Those damn people, I didn’t do anything wrong.
The door to my cell opened and my head shot up. A huge man stood in the doorway and looked at me like he was going to kill me, oh please god, don’t let him kill me. Don’t let me die a virgin.
The man walked to me and grabbed me by my arm. He pulled me up and dragged me to the hallway.
‘W-what a-are you d-doing?’
The man stayed quiet and strengthened his grip.
‘N-no p-please d-don’t.’
A whimper left my mouth as he dragged me after him. My arm felt numb and my fingers were turning purple.
I pulled at my arm and tried to get away from him. But his grip was so tight that it didn’t move an inch.
‘N-no p-please let m-me go, I d-didn’t d-do anything.’
He stopped and turned his head around. He looked me in the eyes with his hard, cold brown eyes.
‘Shut the fuck up.’
He pulled at my arm and threw me to the ground. My head banged against the floor, and I felt blood running down my face out of my nose.
‘Get up you bitch.’
I pulled myself up with my arm and slowly stood up. My hand was holding my bleeding nose and I felt the warm liquid run down my hand. The blood dripped on the floor as I stood there waiting for his next move.
He grabbed me by the hair and pulled me into a room. As his hand gripped tightened onto my hair I screamed out in pain. He pushed me into the room and knocked me to the floor.
I lay on the floor as I saw his body leave the room, leaving me alone. My nose felt like it was broken, and bleeding me to death.
I looked around the room and saw a beautiful room with white and soft blue walls. A huge bed what looked like heaven on clouds. There were clothes laid out on a couch.
I think they gave me the wrong room. Yes, that has to be it. I mean it couldn’t be right. This room was full of beautiful and luxury stuff, that clearly wasn’t meant for me. It had flowers in vases and painting on the wall. There was an ocean blue couch made of a soft fabric. A bed that looked like heaven itself. And a window that looked out to the
sea. Well, at least, i now know where I am. Somewhere nearby a sea.
I mean not that there are thousands of places that’s nearby a goddamn sea. Note my sarcasm.
I walked towards the other door in the room and opened it up. It was the bathroom. Finally. Just what I really need. I did my bussiness and cleaned up my nose and hands before returning to the bedroom.
I stood up straight and walked to the couch with clothes on it. I picked up the clothes and inspected it. I mean it could be something a prostitute would wear. Maybe I’m in a prostitute house, or something like that. You never know.
It was a bright purple dress with long sleeves. It was tight by the chest area and it was wide from the hips to the knees. It was simple but magnificent.
I put back the dress on the couch and walked to the bed. The bed had a soft blue quilt there were pillows over the whole bed. It looked like a bath of pillows. I stroked my hand over the soft pillow and onto the quilt.
I simply couldn’t handle it anymore. I jumped on the bed and laid my head on one of the white fluffy pillows. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moment as long as it would last.
It truly felt like a dream. As if I was still in that cold cell, with that awful bed.
I opened my eyes and spotted the door of the bathroom.
I really need a shower.
I got up from the bed and walked towards the bathroom, took my shower and towel dried myself.
When I walked out of the bathroom I once again spotted the dress. I walked to it and picked it up. I held it in front of me and looked into the mirror. I felt a small tear falling down my cheek. I rubbed the tear of off my cheek and let the dress fall to the floor.
I never, ever, in my life wore a dress. I didn’t have the perfect family and also didn’t have any friends. So, when I looked into that mirror, I imagined what it would be like if was born in a different family. Maybe I would’ve had the opportunity to make friends and have a normal childhood. But I hadn’t. So I just accepted that.
I sank to the floor and just sat there for a moment. Thinking about the things in life. I always wondered what would happen with me when I would be out of this world. Was there another world or universe where you could live after you died, do you meet you loved ones once again. Or was it that after you breathed out your last breath that you would be gone forever. Never see your loved once again, and never experience life again. It doesn’t really matter to me, though. I don’t have any loved ones to come back for.
Chapter 2
I woke up to a door slamming close, it looked to the door and saw that it was closed like it was every time I looked at that damn piece of wood. I looked around the room and looked for something that might be different from yesterday, I really hoped for some food.
I looked at the little table that was in front of the couch and saw a huge pile of food. I literally jumped out of bed and ran over to the food. There were different kinds of fruits, meat and bread. I simply was in heaven.
‘O my god, this is so good.’ I moaned as I put a strawberry into my mouth.
I suddenly froze as a thought came to my mind. What if it is poisoned?
Well, I already ate most of it, so fuck it. If it is poisoned I’m already as good as dead.
I grabbed the glass of water that stood next to the food and threw the water into my mouth. I think I did it too fast, ’cause I choked. The water went straight into my lungs, and I caught up all of it. So the only water that was cold and tasted good enough was now on the ground.
Drips of water flooded out of my mouth as I looked at the water on the floor.
Fuck, this sucks.
I glanced at the ground and then at the water in front if me.
Ah, fuck this shit.
I sat with my butt into the puddle of water and started eating my food again. I would do everything for my food. Even make my butt wet. And that wasn’t an amazing feeling. It was cold, and the fabric of my jeans stuck to my skin. Also, my panties were soaking wet. And not in a good way, if you know what I mean.
When I finished eating, my belly felt like it was going to explode. So I laid down on my back for a while. I was thinking, maybe I would be gone in a day or they would take me or kill me, then I had to make the best of it. So I decided I was going to go into that huge bathtub that is in the bathroom.
So as I walked to the bathroom, I noticed how bad I smelled. I smelled like fucking shit man. Jezus, it was unbearable.
As I sat in the warm water my body relaxed, for the first time in a long time I felt at peace. I scrubbed my skin to get away the bad smell and the dirt. When I finished washing my skin was red from all the scrubbing.
I got out of the bathtub and dried my body with a towel that felt heavenly against my body. I sighed as my body and muscles relaxed. My skin was red from all the scrubbing. I opened the bathroom door and a light breeze hit my naked body making me shiver. I pulled the towel closer to my body and looked around.
It was like the night my mom got murdered. A cold breeze out of my window that caressed my skin. I was standing in my pretty, pink princess room and was playing with my doll. I heard a loud scream that made my body freeze. My mom and dad were fighting again. They always fight on a late night, though. I think they thought that I was asleep, I wasn’t though. I always heard them yelling about money and bills. Sometimes I even heard a loud slap, and my mom running upstairs, crying.
She always held her head high when she would come into my room, and see me awake and tears in my eyes. She would come up to me and whisper sweet words in my ear, she would caress my hair with her fingers and wipe my tears away.
But that night, that didn’t happen. She didn’t come into my room to comfort me or wipe my tears away or whisper sweet words. So as I laid in my bed, I waited for my mommy. Waited till she got to me and held me lovingly. But after ten minutes, I became impatient. So I grabbed my teddy bear and walked down the stairs.
When I came into the kitchen, I didn’t saw my daddy and my mommy standing there, arguing and fighting. I just saw my mommy laying on the floor in a puddle of blood.
The red liquid was coming out of her belly and flooded around her. Her eyes were wide open and her brown hair had become red of her blood.
I whispered her name and grabbed her hand as I knelt next to her. The tears were falling down my cheeks like a waterfall. Her blood was now on my white pajamas. My hands were painted with her blood as I tried to shake her awake.
Shen she didn’t respond I laid my head on her shoulder and whispered in her ear. ‘Mommy when you go to heaven and see an angel, tell him that I would like to meet him. I know that you will always be with me. I love you, mommy, so much.’
I didn’t know when or who, but I was being dragged away from the person I loved the most. I screamed and struggled but they held a tight grip onto me as they took me away.
I still remembered it so good. Her lifeless eyes, her cold body, and how her blood filled the shirt.
My mom was the only one I loved and who returned my love to me. She told me stories before I would go to sleep, would bake cookies with me sometimes and when she was really cheerfull she would give me an extra candy. Those were the days I enjoyed life. But that was all thrown away the day she died.
My mom always told me to be kind to people and help them when they needed it. I always did that but after she died things changed, so I changed as well. I became colder after what my father and sister did to me. I became self-contained. I’d choose to be alone in my room over a night out with friends, not that I had any friends to begin with, though. So I didn’t really have a choice in that.
I was still standing in the doorway of the bathroom. Still holding the towel tight to my body. As the door opened.
I looked over at the door and saw the same man who brought me here. The man with the beautiful green eyes.
I looked into his eyes and stared at him in complete shock. I was frozen in the bathroom doorway. My hands began to tremble and I began to hyperventilate. My breaths came
out short and fast.
I once again looked into his eyes and saw him beginning to walk to me and saw determination in his eyes.
I gasped out loud and took a step back. My hands found the door handle and I pulled the door close. I locked the door and walked to the end of the bathroom.
I sank to the floor and pulled my knees to my chest. I was trembling with fear and hoped he wouldn’t kill me.
Maybe he just came in to say hello.
Who am I kidding? I’m going to die.
I heard loud footsteps approach the bathroom door and saw the twist of the door handle.
The green eyed man banged with his hands on the door and once again twisted the door handle.
I cowered away in fear and prayed he would just leave me alone. He shouted at me to open the door and let him in.
I mean, I’m not that stupid. I wouldn’t just let him in and kill me. I would, at least, put up a fight. And my fight began with hiding in the bathroom.
‘Gracelyn!’
Okay. How the hell did he know my name!?
Chapter 3
I was still stuck in the bathroom and the green-eyed man was still on the other side of the door. He stopped banging but was still there. I knew it, I heard his breathing on the other side. His breaths were soft and steady, but I could still hear him.
I think it has been ten minutes from the moment he stopped banging. I was still sitting in the corner of the bathroom but my breaths were steady again and the tears stopped flooding down my cheeks.
I heard the man take a deep breath and shuffle around at the closed door.
‘Grace, I’m not going to hurt you.’
I stayed quiet, I couldn’t get something out of my mouth.
‘Just open the damn door, Grace.’
‘N-no, fuck off.’ I stuttered.
Jezus, Grace, good job. just a little more stuttering and he will never let you go, ’cause you’re so damn afraid. I scolded myself.
