Too Close for Comfort Page 22

“That doesn’t say much about you, now does it? Look, if we did do anything, I can guarantee you two things—one, I used a condom because I always do, and two, it didn’t mean anything to me. And if you thought otherwise, I’m sorry. So if you think that harassing the hell outta me is gonna get me to believe this bullshit, you’re crazy.”

“You don’t have to believe me, Lincoln. The paternity suit I plan on hitting you with will be proof enough. I heard you talking to Jarrod next door about how you’ve decided to change and you’re thinking really hard about getting with that bitch Taryn, because now you see how much she means to you. Ha! Well, guess what—when she finds out I’m carrying your seed, she ain’t gonna have nothing to do with you. And I, for one, am glad, not that it matters anyway. Actually, the only thing that matters is the fact that you’re gonna take care of me, and you’re taking care of this baby—I mean that.”

“Girl, you’d better stop playing with me.” Lincoln laughed.

“You think this is a joke? But don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll be correct on those checks you’ll be stroking out to me every month for the next eighteen years. Go ahead and laugh now because, when push comes to shove, I’m taking you down and everyone down with you.”

Camille peeked above the desk to see who Lincoln was talking to. She looked up just in time to see the familiar girl storm off. She was so nervous that she almost peed on herself. Lincoln got this chick pregnant? There’s no way! Taryn is going to kill her and him!

She knew for a fact that withdrawing from school was the best thing for her. Seeing all this unfold right before her eyes, she had no doubt her life at the salon was about to get interesting.
