The Outerlands - Sedition
Page 23
With each new phase of construction, and as the weeks turned into months, Graff and I became closer than I ever thought possible. Whether it was training and honing our newfound counterpart abilities or eating and sharing a rare laugh with his team and the Gunari volunteers we had come to consider family, we spent almost every waking moment together. His strength. His leadership. His loyalty to our people that new no bounds. It became my sole comfort in this upside-down world we now lived in.
Sadly, I hadn’t seen Dera since the week after the mission. To my utter disappointment, she had chosen to separate from us and volunteer farther down in the Southern Sector. She claimed ‘a little space would be good for her soul’. I couldn’t blame her. The battle had taken from us all and she was no exception.
The day after our initial return to Sector Three, when we’d been informed by Jonas of just how far Ford’s deceit ran and how integrated he was in our inner sanctum, a new anger swept through The Outerlands. Rafe, taking the betrayal harder than most, had packed up his bags and slipped out of the compound without a word. But we knew where he was headed; where every Gunari vowed to one day go…after the traitor who’d deceived us all.

ALEIGH SCHUSTER
Thank you to my family for helping me through this journey. And what a journey it was!
To Nikki Rae at Metamorphosis Editing Service, thank you for all your help… and for pointing out the obvious when we just didn’t catch it.
To Mike and Holly, thank you for taking on the role of becoming our first beta readers, for taking the time to read through multiple revisions, and for really giving us your honest opinions.
To my mother, co-author and best proofreader I’ve ever met. How you manage to catch the things you do, and after I breeze right by them, I’ll never know.
To my two boys, thank you both for loving all the take-out and leftovers when I would write late into the night. Thank you for giving me quiet time when I would take over the kitchen table or invade the living room with my laptop and papers everywhere. Thank you for being the best two sons a mom could ask for.
To my husband, Rob Schuster, not only for the amazing cover design but for encouraging me to go down this path, for keeping me grounded throughout the entire process, and for kicking me in the metaphorical butt when the completed manuscript sat in a dark corner for over a year. Thank you for being you.
