ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Michael Janzen studied architecture in college but eventually chose to focus on art, graduating with a BFA in ceramics from the University of New Mexico.
Life as a starving artist was tough, so when the Internet took off, Michael retooled his design skills and jumped aboard. Today he earns his living as a web designer, blogger, and tiny house designer. He’s also a dedicated husband and father of two.
In 2007, when the real estate market collapsed, Michael woke up to the unavoidable truth that an American dream based on mortgages and other forms of debt wasn’t viable and began looking for alternatives.
Luckily, adversity spawns answers when one is open to listening. One day Michael was busy working in his home office when his wife Julia called to him from the other room. She had been watching Oprah interviewing Jay Shafer, the founder of the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company.
Jay’s story helped Michael make the connection and begin unlocking answers, like a home should be measured by the happiness and security it brings instead of its size and cost.
