Keeley Thomson (Book 2): Keelzebub

Flames had just burst up out of her fingers, a white hot thing with an aura of cobalt blue around it. They boxed the device quickly and Keeley focused on healing, not wanting to go home looking like she’d been playing with fireworks. The room smelled like pork chops again, but she blocked that out. It was going to be hard enough to pick something to eat without wondering what human flesh really tasted like.
It probably depended on how you fixed it anyway.
Keeley took an hour to eat, and gave Rebekah a hug on the way out and patted Balthias on the arm, or tried too, they couldn’t touch and the movement pushed him back, which she pretended was a “mistake” getting a nervous look from the creature. Elis was in the living room, but if he wanted to be reassured that he wasn’t about to die, he’d better get moving on making friends with Eve. Keeley didn’t think the girl would demand his death, but if she did, that’s what would happen. She had a spare Vampire after all, and could get more.
The drive home was peaceful, which half made her expect that something bad would happen, an attack or even a mundane car accident, but it didn’t. She couldn’t reflect on a lot of things, not knowing who might be listening to her thoughts at the moment, but she knew that there were still a few things to be handled.
For Darla to handle mostly, Like the Durgs and bringing in a few of the others that she’d saved from the Gatherer. Her sister had done the work, so she should get the spoils. Keeley needed to check with Ginger York on that house, and with Steve on his music classes and practice. Then she’d have to get to work on building up some businesses.
It felt so boring after dealing with Vampires and a Gatherer, but it was just as important. Keeping busy always was. It was one of the reasons for going back to school for instance, making sure she had new things to do all the time.
Her parents were asleep when she got home. Keeley thought about it for a while and decided to just do her homework and pretend to be normal for a few days. After all, who knew when the next chance to just kick back would really come?
Smiling, she did her math and thought about getting a snack.
A Demon girl could never have too many snacks. It was a good enough way to spend the night, for now.
The next day would come soon. They always did. And would keep doing so, for a good long time.
If she was strong enough to survive that long.
Then she shrugged and remembered that she already had.
