I strip fast because I only have forty minutes—tops—and I don’t want to waste it changing when I can spend that time inside Chloe, breeding her.
She lets out a giggle of shock and excitement when I pounce on her. She doesn’t giggle a lot because she’s normally too sophisticated for it, but fuck if it doesn’t do something to my heart.
I thrust into her in one deep movement while looking deeply into her eyes because I want her to feel the power she has on me.
“I love when you giggle. It’s cute and sexy.” My movements are slow because I know she’s hurting. I’ve worked her pussy hard these past two days, but it doesn’t seem to stop either of us. “God, babe, you feel fantastic.” I groan and push deeper into her warmth, and bend down to taste those smiling lips. They’re soft, tender, and greedy. She’s trying to take over, but I won’t let her. I may be the Beta, but I’m all Alpha when it comes to her and my future family. “Don’t try to control this, babe. I run shit. You need to take what I give you, Chloe.”
“Don’t be a prick, and just use yours.”
“I’m going to bend your ass over and show you who’s Alpha around here.”
“Oh yeah, Beta? Bring it on.” Our relationship has always been a test of wills, and she’s itching to learn her place. I pull out quickly and before she can finish her frown, I flip her on her belly. She doesn’t resist. Instead, she parts her thighs for me, letting me know what’s on her agenda, but she has no idea I want in her ass. I slip my two fingers into her heat, causing her to push back. Gripping her waist, I lean down over her, and whisper, “Are you ready, my mate?”
She turns her head and asks, panting, “Ready for what, exactly?”
“To be completely dominated,” I say with a straight and determined face.
With a wink, she teases me. “Give it to me, Sheriff.”
“Hands behind your back, woman.”
She puts her hands behind her back, pressing her breasts into the sheets. I sit back and grip her hands in one of mine while I pull my fingers from her dripping pussy and press one finger into her ass. She jumps forward, but feeling my grip on her wrists, she calms down and behaves. I move my finger around her hole, stretching it before adding another. My Chloe is pushing into my hand and moaning into the pillow.
“Who do you belong to?” I ask, gruffly. I’m so unbelievably hard at the thought of her giving me total control.
“You, Erik.”
“I thought so.” Pulling my fingers out, I replace them with my cock, rubbing her hole with my tip. I whisper my love and push in. It’s not as hard as I expected after the initial ring. Chloe let out a little yelp and stiffens up, and so do I. I don’t want to hurt her, but I guess I did. I’m about to pull out and say fuck it. Easing out slowly, I stop when she lets out a moan and pushes calmly back into me. We start fucking hard in her ass. Our juices are making loud sounds as flesh meets roughly.
We’re both getting close, howling loud. I lean over her and tease her breasts. She starts to tremble, and I can feel her squeezing me. I come with her, then rest my body on hers.
I know I have to meet with Hunter, but instead I just pull out of Chloe and drop to my side, cradling her in my arms. We both fall into a comfortable sleep with the scent of our fucking lingering in the air.
I’m startled awake from a loud roar and a giggle. I damn near jump off the bed ready to attack when Hunter snarls, “Put some fucking clothes on. What the fuck is wrong with you? You knew I was coming.”
“Calm down. Did it ever occur to you to knock?” I ask, covering us with the sheets.
“I did you dip. I didn’t know you were sleeping. I thought maybe something happened.”
“It’s my fault, Hunter. I didn’t want him to leave me,” she says with a pitiful pout, but it somehow manages to work on her livid brother.
“Get dressed. Come on, Cat, so I don’t need to choke him, if you see him naked.”
“Whatever. Chloe, we have a lot to plan, so get your horny ass dressed fast.” She smiles brightly at Chloe and I know they’ll be talking about us later.
“I’ll be down in five.” Hunter waves me off and drags his wife from the room who is still giggling as she goes.
“I’m glad she didn’t see you naked. I wouldn’t be happy about it. That cock is for my eyes only.”
“Yes, it is.” I jump off the bed in a flash and get changed. She follows suit, but takes a quick shower.
“I’ll see you later, babe. Stay with Gage all day. Understood?” I command. I hope she knows that I won’t tolerate her defying me like she did before we mated. I had to work and needed to know she was safe.
“Yes, Erik. I promise,” she says, leaning her head out from the shower.
I smile at her before stealing one last kiss before I go. “Good. I love you, Chloe.”
“I love you, too.” I smack her ass and make a run for it, laughing all the way down the stairs.
I walk down to Gage reading on the other side of the living room while Cat’s grinding on Hunter’s lap.
“Um…I thought you were ready to go.”
“Fuck you, Erik.” He lifts his wife off his lap and sits her next to him.
“Got your sister for that.” I’m asking for it, but I couldn’t resist. I heard jokes like that back in Seattle from the other cops, and I never had a reason to use it.
Gage cracks up from the corner of the room while Hunter gives me a shitty look.
“Let’s go, Beta. You got to learn lots of shit in a short time.
Chapter 7
“Good morning,” I whisper to my lovely mate. She sleepily rolls onto her back with a smile. The blanket slides down and reveals her spectacular breasts with her pert nipples. I’ve just put on my uniform pants, and they’re feeling really tight against my belt.
“Why are you getting dressed?” she whines, trying to sit back on her elbows. She looks perfectly delicious. My wolf simmers to the surface, ready to mate again.
I close my eyes and calm down my need, but her scent is permeating in the air. “Um, baby. I got to go to work.” There’s no conviction in my words. I don’t want to leave her again. It’s only been a week since we’ve married and three weeks since we mated. Since we’re shifters, our wedding is just a human formality that makes us seem normal. It was a small and quiet ceremony with a select few around. We’re all busy, but we held it on the resort because we wanted to showcase the location. Our photo is even on the website for public events.
“Oh, I completely forgot about work,” she complains, tossing herself back onto the pillow. I can’t blame her because I want to be in bed with her too, but hell, she’s so cute when she’s grumpy.
“That’s because Hunter’s let you take a long vacation to stay in bed with me, but Ryan can’t work all day every day for me. I need to look for some new deputies. I want to spend more time with my wife.” I lean down on the bed and kiss my beloved. Her sneaky hands wrap around my shoulders, holding on tight. I groan because she’s got her breasts against me, intentionally teasing me. I climb up onto the bed and grind my hard-on on her covered body.
“I need you, Erik,” she sighs, pressing her pelvis up into me.
I growl and kiss her mouth gruffly. Rolling off the bed, I tear the sheet off her body and onto the floor. “This has got to be quick,” I grunt while undoing my belt.
“I’m already there,” she pants, staring at my naked form. My erection is bobbing up and down as I climb on the bed, and Chloe’s eyes are centered on it. She’s in a trance. Pouncing on her, I slide into her heat in one motion. Our bodies burn as our wolves demand satisfaction. Thrusting in and out, I whisper how much I love her.
“Erik,” she cries out, moaning and clawing on my back. She rolls her hips, rubbing her nub against my base, trying to finish. Her eagerness makes me out of control. Pumping over and over again, my movements are erratic because I need to come hard. She’s been extra horny even after our mating moon passed. Her body is hotter than normal too. Even her scent i
s different, and I know it’s because she’s pregnant with our pups.
Chloe hasn’t told me yet, but she will. I’m not even sure she knows herself.
God, knowing my pup is in her gets me so riled up. I slam into her hard, hitting our headboard against the wall over and over. Her pussy grips my cock tightly and starts to pulse as she comes. “Erik!” Kissing her, I let my come pump into her.
I roll onto my back, taking her with me, then I ask, “So when are you going to tell me about our pups?”
“Pups? How do you know if there’s more than one in there?” She gives me a look like I’m ridiculous.
I brush her hair away from her face and tuck it behind her ear. “I don’t, babe, but a wolf can hope his seed is strong enough for more than one pup at a time.”
“You’re a goof. That’s not how this works.” She laughs.
“I don’t care. I say what I say, woman.” I lift my head up and nip at her lips. “I’m so happy, Chloe. Thanks, babe.”
“Me, too. I wanted to tell you, but I had confirmation today. I was planning on a special dinner tonight to tell you. I’m scheduled for the doctor tomorrow.”
I flip us back over so I’m leaning over her. “I love you so much, Chloe. Thank you for our pup or pups.”
“You helped.”
I capture her lips one more time. “Damn right I did. I really hate to do this, but I have to get ready for work.” She pouts but lets me go.
I walk into the department, and Ryan’s on the phone. He sees me and ends his call. “Hey, I’ll call you later.” Then he turns to me and snarls, “About time you showed up. I’d like some time off.” He’s had to work longer than normal hours since I mated with Chloe.
“I’m sorry, Ryan. It’s been a busy morning. How has it been the last two days?” It was busy, but I didn’t need to spend the morning fucking my wife. I just wanted to do it. He’s an asshole anyway.
“It’s been dead. There hasn’t been any real trouble. When are we getting more deputies?” he asks with too much attitude for my liking, but since he’s worked a lot lately I can’t be too mad.
“We have six possible candidates this week. I’m going to start doing interviews tomorrow. I’ve already called the candidates.” I sit down at my desk and look at the paperwork piling up.
“Are they all wolves? Or do we have some humans in the mix?” I knew that question would come up. We both had concerns about it, but I think it’s for the best to integrate.
“There’s one human female. The rest are wolf males. Two are from here, the rest of them are from out of town.”
“Okay. Well, I’m against the human candidate. You know the danger that they present.”
“Yeah, but a lot of the criminal element entering the area are human. It may work to our benefit to have one of their own patrolling.”
“You’re the boss.” He grabs his jacket and slides it on.
“Yes, I am, but it’s still important that we agree.”
“Oh, please. I’m on my way out.” He walks away with his hat and out the door.
Something about the way he said that bothers me. I’ve been thinking about it since he left two hours ago. It’s been dead so far. I’ve handled some paperwork that’s been sitting for two days. I call Chloe, but she doesn’t answer so I leave a message. “Hey, babe. I just called to say I love you. Miss you, my sweetheart. I can’t wait to celebrate, wife.”
Just as I end the call, Letty rushes in. “Sir, there’s a call coming from Evansville. A fight with two of our men and five guys from Seattle. The Evansville police asked for our help because they’re dealing with a shooting in town.”
“Okay. I’m on my way. Can you get more details?” I ask, moving around my desk and grabbing my shotgun from the cabinet.
“Here. I wrote it down. Please, sir, be careful. I have a bad feeling about this.” I can sense her fear is real. Letty isn’t the overly concerned type, but given all things considered with Lauren and Rocky it’s a bit disconcerting.
“Why?” Did something happen that I don’t know about?
“I don’t know. It seems fishy. Why didn’t they call Redding?” Her concern worries me. She really doesn’t want me going out there.
“We’re the county seat, so maybe they thought of us first,” I tell her before I walk out the door.
I should’ve listened to Letty. I got to the scene an hour away, and it was all cleared up. The Redding police along with the Evansville police are there talking to each other, no criminals in sight.
“Hey, fellas. What’s going on?” I ask as I walk up to them. The only one I know well is Charlie Connors.
“Hey, Smith. We got it locked up. It was just a local squabble. I don’t know why they would call you from so far away,” Deputy Connors from Redding says with a shake of his head.
“That’s what my dispatcher said,” I confirm, feeling like an ass for showing up.
“Be safe. Tomorrow’s another full moon. The nuts are starting to make an appearance, both our kind and theirs.”
“I will,” I chuckle. It’s always crazy during full moons. Last time I found my mate, and it was really crazy.
“By the way, congratulations on finding your mate,” Connors says.
“Thanks. Good luck finding yours.” I know he’s not as old as me, but his time hopefully will come soon.
Jumping back in my squad car, I make my way back to town. I call dispatch and let Letty know she was right; it was a waste of time. “The Redding officers were there along with the Evansville police. They didn’t need me and aren’t sure who called it in.”
“Boss, just be careful,” she pleads.
“I’m going to be fine…” All of the sudden I’m slammed into by another car. Disoriented I try to get my bearings. My body is pinned in and I can’t find my phone. Shit. I’ve got this overwhelming feeling that this wasn’t an accident. “I love you, Chloe,” I whisper as I try to stay awake. Before I know it, someone is approaching and I’m being shot at. I duck, but it’s too late.
Chapter 8
“Ah!” I shout, waking myself out of my sleep. My hearts pounding a million miles an hour. I look around, confused and crying. It’s still light outside. I grab my phone and see that I’ve missed a call from Erik. It’s from two hours ago. Damn. I try to call him back, but it goes straight to voicemail.
I call the station, hoping that just maybe he’s there and his battery died. He’s never charging his cell. I hear the beeping sound daily. The phone is busy. Phones still have a busy signal?
Something’s wrong. I can feel it. The dream was too real, too scary—my heart’s praying it’s just a wild nightmare. My phone rings, and that ominous feeling courses through me. It’s not Erik’s cell ringer. I have one for his work and cell. It’s his work. My hand’s shaking so much, I can barely slide the answer button.
“Hello,” I say, a sob trailing behind.
“Chloe, it’s Letty. Erik’s been shot. He’s been airlifted to Redding Regional. Hunter’s on his way to get you.”
I hang up the phone, shaking. Erik’s been shot. I howl loudly in our home. How can this be? We just spent the morning worshipping each other. Erik had just found out about our pup. I can’t understand or believe it. He was just here.
I’m out the door and in my car before I’m done getting dressed. He’s at a hospital in Redding, and that’s a long drive. I don’t understand how this happened or why he was near there in the first place.
I stop on the road not two miles from our house, unable to see because I’m crying uncontrollably. My pain is etched deep in my heart—losing him would be the death of me. It’s not just because we’re mated, but he’s my everything. We became friends and soulmates long before we became one. He’s the air I breathe, the father to our unborn pup.
A truck pulls alongside of me. It’s Hunter. I don’t move because my body doesn’t know how to function.
“Chloe. Chloe…Chloe, unlock the door!” he shouts. “Damn it, Chloe, open it!” I hi
t the button, and he’s on me in a second, unbuckling me from the car and holding me tight to his chest.
“He’s going to be fine. He’s my Beta. It wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t meant to survive. Come on.” He carries me to the truck and straps me in. Cat’s sitting in the back with me, hugging and holding me as I shiver and rock back and forth.
“Tell me what happened,” I snarl, rage and feral instinct to find the shooter and tear them apart is climbing through my chest.
“All I know is they received a call for assistance needed in Evansville. Letty didn’t want Erik to go because she felt something was off about it. He waved her off, telling her it was his duty. Then he called her back later and was telling her that it was a waste. Before he could say anything else she heard a loud crashing sound.” My dream comes racing back to me. No, it can’t be true.
“It’s him. Ryan did it.” I know it in my heart to be true. It may have been a dream, but it was too close to real for me to be wrong.
“What makes you say that?” he asks with a gritty grunt.
“Hunter, I woke up screaming from a nightmare. It was about Erik. He was shot in the line of duty. I remember Ryan’s words in my dream, and he said, ‘You’re not so strong now, are you?’ I felt the bullet like it was me in Erik’s place. He’s been shot in the head, hasn’t he?”
