Insufferable Weight of Silence Page 23

by Huggins, Carrie

Brody bravely stands to his feet again and lunges at me. I move aside and he crashes behind me into the nightstand. "Fuckin pitiful man. You can't even put up a fight?" I ask.

  "Fuck you, bitch." He slurs.

"Was she worth it?" I ask.

"Who? That whore you just helped me get rid of?" He laughs.

"No, Amity Mason. When you laid a hand on her you signed your death certificate." I inform him.

"You're not the guy she's sucking off in parking lots." He grins. "Oh wait! Is she giving it up to both of you? How do her pretty little lips feel wrapped around your cock? I could never get her to do it." He laughs. I stand and walk over to him pulling him up by his shirt.

"I wouldn't know. I don't take what's not mine." I tell him with another left hook to the temple. He stumbles but quickly corrects himself again. "You should, you should know what it feels like to have her tight cunt wrapped around your...." He says but is stopped again by another left to his face and sides.

He charges at my body swinging his fists but his punches are nothing compared to what I've dealt with in the ring. I send a few more blows to his face and body. "She loved it when I wrapped my hands around her neck until she passed out while I was plunging into her. Her screams went unheard because no one cares about a whore." He laughs.

I decide enough is enough. There isn't any fun in a fight when it's one sided. In a matter of minutes, I make sure he's unable to move and will be unconscious for hours. I wait in my car watching the motel door until Dex is ready to go.

Dex pulls into the run down motel and steps out of his dad's truck. We only have a few minutes to get this over with. He walks over to my truck and taps the window. I raise the brim of my hat and smile at him. The two of us walk into Brody's room and he looks around the place for a split second. "You write the note?"

"Yea." I say placing it down on the desk. He pulls a 9mm pistol from his pocket wrapped in a small cloth to keep it from getting fingerprints.

  "Where'd you get that from?"

"I know people too." He grins. "Guess who it's registered to and who bought it." I shrug. He points to Brody with a sinister smile. The look in his eyes quite frankly scares the shit out of me. I watch him check Brody for vitals making sure he's still alive and when he's satisfied he places the gun in Brody's hand carful not to get his finger prints on the gun but make sure Brody's are all over it. He puts the gun to Brody's head and slides his gloved finger through the trigger on top of Brody's.

"You want to get out of here before I do this?"

"Hell no! We're in this together. All or nothing." I inform him.

He gives me a look and shakes his head. Brody's eyes fly open and he looks Dex dead in the eyes and then at the gun in his hand and back to Dex with shear panic on his face. Before he can open his mouth to scream or protest they pull the trigger.

"Tattoo time." Dex grins and stands from the floor as Brody's body slumps over onto the carpet staining it red. He grabs the wash cloth stuffing it into his pocket. We exit down the fire escape, through the alley, and to our trucks.

When I thought what I did may have been fucked up, Declan scared the hell out of me tonight. I'd never seen him like that or thought he was even capable of something so heinous. He didn't even take a second glance at Brody. I have to keep reminding myself that what he did back there was make sure his daughters and wife were safe. It's something I would have done.
