“I think I’m going to come again,” she says.

“Come for me, baby,” I urge and I feel her swell beneath my tongue as her pussy moves in sync with my licking. She is so wet and swollen and her cries of ecstasy have me so super turned on I don’t know how much longer I can take this. Her breathing slows and I get on the bed beside her. I let her catch her breath and she moves into the crook of my arm.

  “That was. . .”

“Good, you’re speechless. I guess you won’t be forgetting tonight,” I chuckle.

  “Definitely not,” she agrees.

I nod feeling proud of myself. She stares down at my rock-hard cock and swipes her thumb over the precum at the tip. I jerk from her touch. She wraps her hand around my cock and begins to pump, and then she moves her mouth in to suck me and damn that would be heaven but. . . I stop her. “If you do that now, I’ll blow my load and I really want inside you.”

She rolls on top of me and we kiss as her naked body covers mine. I wrap my arms around her back as we kiss intensely. Our tongues mingling in perfect harmony. I drop my hands to her ass and I remember the night of the party I smacked her ass and she loved that. I don’t do that now though because I know she is fragile. So we kiss passionately, enjoying the closeness and intimacy of the moment. I’ve never felt like this before. Sex for me had always been about release and pleasure. This is definitely pleasurable but the emotion behind every touch, every caress, has me feeling undone.

She spreads her legs. “Do you think we should use a condom too?”

She knows we are both clean and she’s on the pill. “If it makes you feel safer, then sure.”

“Please. You clearly have super sperm,” she teases.

“Everything about me is super, baby,” I say.

  She laughs. “Always so cocky.”

“Damn straight. I have a pack of condoms in the bag.”

She lifts off me and goes to get the box. She brings it to bed and climbs back over me. After opening the new box she sheathes my cock.

“Do you want to ride me or do you want me on top?” I ask.

“Let’s start slow with you on top but treat me like a virgin,” she laughs, but she is serious and I read her nerves.

I kiss her nose and she turns to lie on her back. I hover above her and we start to kiss again. Her fingers tangle in my hair and then move down my back where she grips my ass. I slide inside her slowly.

“How does that feel?” I ask.

“Really good,” she says and it sounds like a half moan so I begin to move, thrusting inside her in slow gentle strokes. I keep a steady rhythm, even though I want to pound inside her.

“Faster,” she urges, wrapping her legs around my back. She grips my ass tighter. “Yes.”

“You feel so good,” I groan.

She begins to move with me and I harden more. I pump faster. “You okay?” I manage to croak.

“So good. Don’t stop,” she says as I thrust harder, and then I can’t take it anymore as she grinds into me as I thrust deep inside her. She detonates, moaning so loud in my ears that I pick up speed and come inside her. I come and come and I jerk. Fuck. This is heaven.

After we lie in bed beside each other and she assures me she is okay.

“Is it weird that I feel horny after three orgasms?” she asks.

“You’re allowed to be greedy after not having sex for eleven months,” I say, caressing her arm up and down with my finger as her head leans on my chest. She draws circles on my chest and the intimacy between us has me blown away.

“What are you thinking?” she asks.

“That I knew we would be good together, but I never imagined this good,” I declare.

“That’s sweet, Cole. I was worried about tonight and you made everything perfect. You make me feel safe and wanted.”

“I always want to make you feel that way, baby.”

“So I guess you aren’t calling me Donovan anymore?” she cackles.

“Is that so bad? You’re mine. I’ve waited to make you mine a long time,” I remind.

“Thank you for being so patient,” she says quietly.

“Always, I hope you know that.”

“It’s hard for me to trust but I do trust you, completely,” she says, and that right there makes my love somehow feel deeper. Stronger.

“I’m always going to be there for you and CC,” I vow.

“I know, Cole, and I love you for it,” she says, and then she climbs on me and rides me until she is screaming my name.

I take CC and place her on my lap as the game plays on the television. It’s now just me and CC living in Cole’s rental. Declan moved out at the end of last year and Mary stays with us a couple nights a week so I can get some sleep since school is intense this year.

“That’s your daddy,” I say to CC as the game is about to begin.

Cole drafted into the NHL at number ten and was picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins. We were lucky that it’s East Coast and only an hour and a half by flight. He comes home every chance he gets, which isn’t too often.

We watch the game on a big screen. CC sits on my lap as I bounce her up and down. She shoves her hands in her mouth and giggles as I watch Cole take the ice. My heart stutters when I see him. Even with the helmet and all that gear, he takes my breath away.

The game begins and he kisses his hand and sends it up into the air. He does that every game now. It’s a message to me and CC that he loves and misses us. It’s the end of October so the official season has just begun and the Penguins are doing well, having won both of their games. Wolfe and Cole joke about kicking each other’s asses next month when there teams play each other. Cole has already played Chad’s team, the Golden Knights. They all plan on coming back here for Thanksgiving again next month. Granny Mae had thought about moving to Westfall but she decided the winters would be the end of her, and I can’t blame her. I remember my mama always complaining about the cold winters here. She always dreamed about moving back to Georgia but that opportunity never came about.

Paris and I were finally able to claim the life insurance money Mom had left us. Paris moved into a rental here in Westfall and plans to apply to be a student for next year. The money sure saved my education. I’m in the process of completing the semester I took off to have CC and I plan on doing summer school again, which means I will only have one semester next year of classes and I will be able to write the MCAT the following summer.

Cole scores a goal and I take CC’s hands and raise them above her head. She giggles as she drools. And I cheer. “Go Daddy!”

Cole and I are in a really good place. We have lots of sex when he does come home and he soaks up his time with CC, even though I can see it’s really hard on him to be away from us. Sometimes I wonder if he made the right decision to draft. I think he wonders the same thing too. We talk about it a lot when he comes home, because every time he does, he hates to leave us all over again. Life isn’t easy but it’s our life. We have each other and when we are together my world is right, balanced. My life is filled with the love of a good man and an amazing kid, and on some level, I feel like I have my and Cole’s mother to thank for that. They’ve been watching over us all this time from heaven, and deep down, I know that both our mothers are smiling thinking they did a damn good job.

It feels so good to have a full house for Thanksgiving again: Rebel, Wolfe, Cait, Paris, Max, Granny Mae, Blossom, Chad, and Lola.

  The doorbell rings.

“It must be Dec,” I say.

He lives in the hockey house closer to campus with the guys from the team. He moved out when CC was born because he felt like a third wheel. The hockey house is definitely more his speed anyway.

“So you decided to come,” I greet, shaking his hand.

“Yeah, man, thanks. My family had Thanksgiving dinner last week since my dad has to travel for work this year,” he s
ays and he looks a little on edge with his hands tucked into the front pockets of his jeans.

“Cool. Glad you could make it.” I pat him on the back and step out of the way to let him in the house.

It feels like a real reunion having my best friends and family here. CC has grown so much and she interacts with all our guests, crawling all over the place. Lola licks up CC’s face and my baby girl giggles.

  “Is that sanitary?” Holland asks.

“She’s a clean dog. I only allow her to sniff certain dog butts,” Rebel snickers.

“Ew! Gross,” Holland says, but CC is laughing as Lola entertains her so I think Holland doesn’t have the heart to break things up.

We sit around the table and start to eat. We go through our tradition of going around the table and allowing everyone to say what they are grateful for. When we reach Declan, he falls silent and watches all of us carefully.

“I want to say that I’m sorry for being such an ass. . . ” He clears his throat and stares at Granny Mae and winces. “I mean, hard to handle. I was a jerk for a long time now and I know I was a shitty roommate. I didn’t clean up and I didn’t cook and you guys just let me be me and I am grateful to you. I think it’s time I tell you why I was such an asshole. Why I chose to drown myself in hookups and booze. . .” he says.

We all sit around the table and wait for the big reveal. . .

  Prologue

“Is all this necessary?” I ask my roommate Bonnie while staring in the narrow mirror attached to the back of our front door.

“Yes,” she says smoothing out my hair.

“I don’t feel like myself,” I admit as I look at myself in the mirror and see a girl with long auburn hair that’s smooth and very unlike my wavy unruly hair looking back at me. And my eyes. . . they really pop with all the mascara and eyeliner Bonnie applied. “I look like a rocker,” I snicker.

“You look stunning.” She corrects using a brush to apply some blush.

I’ve been at Westfall U all of two weeks. That’s one week of student orientation and one week of classes. I also met Bonnie about two weeks ago when I moved into this two person dorm. I normally keep to myself and don’t make friends easily, but I promised myself before I started at Westfall that I’d make a solid effort to be more outgoing.

“Remember why you signed up for the dating app,” she says looking me up and down like she’s proud of herself. Truth is she’s done a phenomenal job with my makeover.

“Maybe it isn’t so important to meet a guy anymore,” I say shrinking into myself. This dress which is the color of Merlot wine is slinky and formfitting, my done up hair and all the makeup on my face makes me feel like I’m a completely different person.

“Really?” she cocks her brow and juts out her hip. “So getting your first kiss has gone down on your bucket list?” Oh dear. I admitted to Bonnie that I’ve never kissed a boy. I kind of regretted it afterward but we were each in our beds late at night chatting in dorm room and we got to talking about life. Bonnie told me about her wanting to take a dream trip to Paris and I let it slip that I had never been kissed. My statement was followed by a loud gasp from Bonnie who immediately flung herself out of bed, sat upright and grabbed her phone. “You have to sign up for a dating app,” she insisted. So what did I do? I signed up for College Pro a dating site used by Westfall students exclusively. She assured me there were lots of hot guys on College pro and she wasn’t wrong.

“It’s still there. I mean how many eighteen year olds have you met that haven’t been kissed?” I ask.

“Just meet the guy at the bar. Have a drink. Flirt. Let’s hope he leans in for a kiss and if he doesn’t because he may be shy then you take the reins and go in,” she says repeating the plan for the fifth time tonight. She didn’t answer my question which leads me to believe I am the only eighteen year old she knows that hasn’t been kissed.

“You make it sound so easy,” I sigh.

  “It is,” she nods.

“I’m awkward. I don’t know how to flirt and what if the guy isn’t good looking?” I say spewing all of my fears.

“Please,” she says, pulling her phone out of the back pocket of her jeans. She opens the College pro app and pulls up the profile of the guy I’m meeting at a bar off campus. “He’s super hot,” she says lifting her phone for me to see his picture.

The guy is hot. She isn’t wrong. His blue eyes are enticing. His chocolate brown hair looks a little wavy and his smile is warm. His dimples are definitely an added bonus and the beanie he’s wearing makes him look down to earth for some reason but then again what do I know? I’ve had zero experience with guys.

“Fine you’re right.” I smoothing out the dress Bonnie lent me. Time to put your big girl panties on, Poppy. “I just feel like this whole look is a little much for a guy I’ve never met before.”

“You look stunning. This Cage guy is going to totally be in to you,” she says. “He looks so hot and his name is totally sexy.”

Right. I forgot his name is Cage. What kind of name is that anyway?

She passes me her little black purse since I don’t own any going out clothes. I slip my cell phone inside along with a twenty and my bank card.

“I should take a jacket. I can’t walk out of here like this,” I say feeling self-conscious. This dress has spaghetti straps. I feel naked. I walk over to the closet and take my jean jacket. The fit is a little on the big side but that’s how I like to wear my clothes, loose and comfortable.

“Uh uh,” she shakes her head. “You aren’t draping that thing on you tonight.”

I frown. She passes me her little black biker vegan leather jacket.

“Wear this,” she says and she removes my jean jacket off my shoulders. I help her by shrugging out of it as I repeat in my head, I can do this over and over again.

With the jacket on I feel a little less self conscious and I take one last glance in the mirror. She’s right. It looks good. I just need to have the self-esteem to own it and walk out of here with my head held high. I don’t.

“Thanks for everything,” I say to Bonnie and I lean in and hug her but she shakes her head again. What now?

“You aren’t leaving here wearing those glasses,” she orders. My glass frames are the same ones I’ve had since freshman year of high school even though the prescription has changed. “You said you have contacts.”

“Did I say that?” I ask playfully.

She nods. “Put on the contacts, Poppy. Sheesh you aren’t easy. I thought you’d like getting dressed up. That you’d be excited to go out and meet a handsome boy.”

“My stomach is swimming with butterflies.”

  “That’s good,” she assures me.

I walk over to the washroom that we share in our room. At least I was lucky to get a dorm room that had its own washroom. The next building over has communal bathrooms and I could never imagine having to shower with guys around.

I take off my glasses and put in the contacts. This guy isn’t going to know the real me because I look nothing like myself right now.

I walk out of the washroom and Bonnie’s jaw drops. “Damn you clean up nice.”

  “Thanks?”

She moves her head back and forth. “No, you need to smile and say thank you. Batting your eyelashes a little will help too. You want to come off confident.”

“You do realize I lack confidence, right?” I say to Bonnie. I don’t have a problem admitting my short comings. I just don’t know how to fix the problem either. I’m a journalism major and if I want to get a head while I’m here confidence is kind of a necessity. The journalism program is majorly competitive and after freshman year it’s well kno
wn that certain students find internships working with some of the larger newspapers and broadcasting stations in Boston. That is part of the reason I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone tonight too. It’s not only about being kissed, it’s also about me finding my backbone. I know it must be in me somewhere.

“You’ve got confidence you just haven’t discovered it yet. Just wait until you walk into that bar. You’re going to turn heads. Cage is going to be completely enthralled with you and it’s always nice to have a hot guy drooling over you. It does wanders for your ego,” she says.

“When you talk like that I want to run into my bed and hide under the blankets,” I pout.

She passes me her purse with my stuff in it. “Call the Uber now. I don’t want you backing out. Besides what’s the worst that can happen?”

  Poppy

I have my phone screen open to Cage’s picture. I don’t see him anywhere in the bar. I get a sinking feeling I’ve been ditched but Bonnie is right. Guys are walking by and smiling at me. They are checking me out and giving me a one up glance that definitely shows they appreciate what they see. It feels weird and I’m definitely not used to this kind of attention.

My phone pings with a text from Cage.

Cage: I see you. I’m here by the bar. You’re more beautiful in person.

Oh that’s sweet of him to say. I walk over to the bar. There’s a few couples sitting together and talking. There’s a guy holding a beer bottle and staring at it like it has all the answers to life and just past him is another guy that’s smiling wide and checking me out but I don’t see Cage or someone that resembles the pic he posted on the app. I walk over to the bar next to the smiling dude thinking I will text Cage my location from here.

Me: I’m here. On the north side of the bar.

I send the text and instantly regret it because my description sounds weird.
