The Killer Next Door: A Murder Mystery Page 17

by Nicholas Jordan

  “Alright. Open them.”

She did. Saw him holding out his hand. His lighter resting in the center of his palm. She narrowed her eyes. “Um, what’s that for?”

“I was wondering if you could get rid of this for me,” he said. “I think I’m done being a hypocrite.”

“Thanks.” She took the lighter from him. “I didn’t say anything before, but I was really hoping you would quit.”

“I know. I could tell. Oh, I do have one more thing for you.”

  “What’s that?”

“This.” He closed the gap between them and placed his hands on her waist before leaning in and kissing her lips.

Kaylee closed her eyes and surrendered entirely to the kiss. She’d kissed a lot of other guys before. Some of those kisses were great, some were okay, and some were just plain awful, but none of them compared to this.

She never thought of herself as a helpless romantic like Chelsea, and didn’t believe that a kiss could really matter all that much, but this kiss made her question her entire point of view. Something about it just felt . . . right.

In spite of Chelsea’s death and everything else that happened, Kaylee truly felt like there was hope for the future. Not by forgetting Chelsea, but by remembering her and using those memories every day to remind herself that—above all else—Chelsea would want her to be happy.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nicholas Jordan is a writer of fast-paced and suspenseful thrillers. His philosophy for crafting stories is to focus on real world terrors rather than just supernatural dangers that exist only in our imaginations—although he’s not afraid to blend the two. Themes of revenge, obsession, and morality are all common in his novels.

There is nowhere that he would rather be than sitting in front of his computer with a mug of tea, diligently working on his next novel, which is more than likely where he is right now.
